No, because the Dead can only post online after the internet arrives and becomes accessible for the average person. (e.g.: The mid-1990s or so.) So, no, not much technological advancement for the living, though yes, I’m sure many a dead thinker would be thrilled by modern science and innovations. Heck, even just the Web alone would be incredible, seeing as the average person has 24-7 access to a vast, ever-updating library of everything — something that even in my parents’ day, would’ve been unimaginable for most people. Thirty years for ALL THE DEAD SCIENTISTS/POLYMATHS/ETC to invent and improve knowledge!!! Imagine 2010s tech being available back in the 1990s! After they learn a thing or two about how far modern science and technology has progressed since they left, that is. But seriously, leap-frogging to 2010s tech by the end of the '90s seems absurdly fast to me. Remember, technological advancement is built on all sorts of interactions, discoveries, and the preexisting industrial base allowing for certain components or manufacturing processes to become available, so simply having Archimedes or Isaac Newton back won't be enough — or at least, not immediately. Honestly, I probably should've clarified that I was thinking the POD would only kick in on New Year's Day of 2023, just to keep the timekeeping simple and prevent butterflies early on that make the present day somewhat less "recognizable" than if it kicked in around 1994 or so. The aftereffects would be profound, for sure — and while I expect 2023 to be a crazy year in any case, expect the shenanigans to reach whole new levels here as The Dead finally speak.

Not only that but a lot of secrets and allegations are going to emerge as the dead give their side of numerous stories, throwing both history and politics into turmoil, as well as affecting probably most families around the world. [At least for those who's dead can reach a computer].

Made similar arguments in my initial post, yeah. Quoting myself for your convenience: Besides that, I'm thinking that pretty much every dead person is given automatic proficiency in using the internet by default, up to and including understanding modern languages (if not necessarily pop-culture references or history since they passed from the scene). Of course, something else that's occurred to me is whether or not that includes babies or young children who died long before reaching adulthood, which seems to be stretching it a bit much. That said, I'd be okay with, say, cases where Julia (Caesar's daughter) holds her baby in her lap on a Zoom call, meaning that — even though they can't independently interface with the living on their own — there are still kids in the afterlife who can still use the Web with their parents' help and supervision. That is, unless they were old enough to read, write, and understand the world around them by the time they died IOTL — in which case, they're just as free to post and browse the Web as the adults are.

On second thought, I should probably link to what I said, seeing as Spoiler headings don't open when you quote them. Kind of inconvenient if you ask me, but whatever.

Based on this AH.con thread: ‘1980s People Watch YouTube’. As in, modern YouTube becomes fully available on downtimers’ TV sets, which they can then navigate with keyboards and joystick-like controls the ASB has plugged in for them (as opposed to turning the TV dial every which way, like Fifties audiences in the original scenario). Governments are also prevented from censoring content or removing the new features ASB has provided to TVs worldwide, so barring mass-confiscation and destruction of TV sets, odds are they’ll have to clench their jaws and cope — whatever the consequences may be.

Cross-posting from The ISOT Thread: ‘Modern Classicists Become Alexander The Great’s Tutors’. In other words, the likes of Adrian Goldsworthy, Mary Beard, Victor Davis Hanson, and other contemporary experts on Antiquity are sent back in time to tutor a teenaged Alexander. ASB also hand-waves any linguistic barriers or “rash” responses by Philip II, Olympias, or their general retinue, as well as allotting the uptimer tutors with quarters bedecked with twenty-first century accommodations — as well as the various broadcast networks, power supplies, and maintenance crews needed for their upkeep and continued use.

‘Modern YouTube To 2005’.
That’s when it was first launched, just so we’re clear.

Someone's mind is inserted into Frederick the Great's body, but it doesn't replace original Frederick or merge with his: they exist as two completely separate selves. Like DID. They can communicate with each other mentally, and the SI and OG Fritz work together to propel Prussia even further into the Great Powers Club: SI provides the cheats, and OG Fritz helps him act properly in 1700s Europe. Frederick was known to have many different, sometimes conflicting personalities he would show to different people, and this is essentially an extension of that. TL;DR Prussia wank

‘Augusto Pinochet (2006) SI To Joseph Stalin (1924)’. Well... on the one hand, lots of purges are sure to ensue and lots of Communists are set to die. But on the other, he can’t be any worse than OTL Stalin was (especially since most of the people Pinochet would kill were killed by Stalin IOTL, anyway), and he’ll likely implement market reforms that ensure the USSR remains economically competitive and can survive on more than inertia and sheer size. Not to mention how the average Soviet citizen will probably be both happier and wealthier, due to the lack of artificial famines, centrally planned disasters, and quota-based executions and imprisonment of hundreds of thousands at a time — all of which OTL Stalin dispensed in spades.
