Well i think Earth has a couple of years before the Regents discover something has happen to their scout fleet and decide to send a large 2nd scout/invasion fleet to Earth. That depends on the actual physics involved as the evidence is they have FTL travel so a response could come very quickly. Also it would probably take at least a decade to get any even rudimentary space defence system established. At least unless Hollywood fashion we get almost immediate ability to a hell of a lot of Regent technology which isn't very likely in real life.
So no Orbital Defense System like that in Independence Day 2, but then again, that was not successful as the alien spaceship destroyed them before they could be used.  |

Not unless there is an huge leap in technology very quickly or the aliens give us a couple of decades.
Mind you fixed defences in orbit in a 3 dimensional battle space battle might be vulnerable anyway as very high velocity projectiles could hit them before they could dodge if the aliens have that capacity. [Although if they want to use a conquered Earth they may decide that policy is too destructive.

You know I've been thinking.
What if the Regents are basically what Columbus and the Europeans did and were attacked by natives as an appropriate response to something that looks threatening? The analogy is present.

I can draw analogies to the Battle of Mactan (1521) between Ferdinand Magellan and the natives of Mactan lead by Lapu-Lapu. The Spaniards came back to the Philippines Islands in 1565 with a much stronger fleet and army. |

That assumes that: a) They don't dominate space and soften us up with bombardment 1st. and
b) That they don't have anything more powerful or numerous than what came in 2012. As gillan1220, says that might have been just a scouting force who's commander overestimated his military might. Facing a full on fleet with many more ships landing a lot of regular ground units could be a hell of a different matter.

Just a correction folks, I made a mistake in the first post. I assumed Battleship takes place on August 2012 but it actually ended on August 3, 2012. So I would switch back the month to July 2012. I will be making an in-universe story about this soon. |

Ah nice gillan1220 , Then will you write something about Philippines in this TL? Maybe soon like a myself testimony in this TL. The Philippines as of 2012 was still modernizing its armed forces. The most recent ship the Philippine Navy has is the BRP Gregorio del Pilar and it does not have the Phalanx CIWS and Harpoon ASMs. Prior to the POD, the del Pilar was involved in the Scarbourough Shoal standoff with the PRC in April 2012. The next ship BRP Ramon Alcaraz would take until August 2013 to be delivered. There are no jets to speak with the first F/A-50 Eagles delivered only in November 2015. |

ukron and I discussed about the possible aftermath of the Regent incursion Countries like the U.S., UK, Russia, and China probably spend more on orbital or space defense. The Chinese would want to study that Regent crash in Hong Kong. For Russia's side, it would probably mean less involvement in Syria. Since ISIS was not yet formed at this period and the fight was mainly between FSA and the SAA, probably a ceasefire is put into effect thereby butterflying the 2013 gas attacks. Australia and Japan probably will increase their defense budgets. China in her busyness would probably put on hold their activities in the South China Sea while the Philippines would faster is modernization of its armed forces. We'd probably see the U.S. establish tracking dishes all over the Pacific islands.
