While making a video about Portugal I ended up coming across War Plan Grey which was created by the U.S military in 1941 to invade the Azores islands that are under Portuguese control. This was to prevent them from falling into the hands of Nazi Germany but the plans were created before the U.S had entered the war. I haven't been able to find a whole lot of information about this in my research but what you think would happen if the U.S invaded the islands. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Plan_Gray

They wouldn't likely have needed to that; Salazar was not the fondest of the Nazis and may let them make airbases on the islands. Heck, that might have happened OTL.

That could happen, a sort of secret lend lease, Portugal lease the island to the US and the US will provide Portugal with military hardware to defend itself.

But Franco was not stupid, he will never go to war against Portugal as that would mean he would be in the same camp as Germany, something he made every effort of staying out of.

A base for bombers, the islands are located in the Atlantic ocean, the Allies if they want to strike Southern France can best use North Africa for it, the only use for the islands is as a ASW base.

A base for bombers, the islands are located in the Atlantic ocean, the Allies if they want to strike Southern France can best use North Africa for it, the only use for the islands is as a ASW base. It could be used as a submarine base, and its distance makes it less vulnerable to German bombers.
