That is, the Italian maritime republics form their own "mercantile confederation" to provide common defense and facilitate free-trade networks in the Med. Might even come to rival the actual Hanseatic League some day, depending on how things go for them.

as a Powerfull network. With the resouces of Republic of Venice (Carthage anybody?) and the other trading Republics instead of being at war with each other this might yield something big. There would be conflic with the Hanse over trade in Britain and the North Sea.

My first intake on this thread: "PC: Russia loses all of Bessarabia and Congress Poland after a bigger Allied victory in the Crimean War" Was Austria's intervention minor or a lot bigger during the Crimean War? I'm just wondering if it was possible if the Austrians were also active participants in the conflict as well. Moreover, were there any more possible participants that have a bone to pick with Russia that would allow them to join the Crimean War? That involves the suppression of Poland by the (un)Holy Alliance and Russian intervention in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. The Austrians moved on Wallachia and Moldava when the Russians were distracted in the Crimea around 1854. As far as I know , that was the extent of any Austrian involvement, as officially they were "neutral". Could they have jumped in? Probably, but with the Hungarian problem still seething, that would be rather dangerous. |
