Would Cambodia, the government, rather than the Khmer Rouge fringe, actually be that willing to attack Vietnam, especially in alliance with China of all nations? The Vietnamese invasion, which was due to KR attacks largely liberated what was left of Cambodia from those maniacs and China was the nations that backed the KR despite their slaughter of so much of the population. I would suspect that Cambodia would quietly be cheering on Vietnam in the hope they keep the Chinese at bay.
Also share gillan1220 , concern about an attack on Brunei and Malaysia. Neither of them are extremist nations like the Philippines under Tadiar so would be likely to receive support, both from other Muslim nations and from anyone concerned about the raving lunatics in Beijing. I could just about see China getting away with brutal attacks on the Philippines because of Tadiar and Vietnam as a communist state but the excesses are likely to upset a lot of people as well as them widening the war further.
Steve
China was a major backer of the Khmer Rogue during the OTL Cold War, so I would not be surprised if they would do so here. The FULRO insurgency against Vietnam was over IOTL 1992, though with China launching another invasion of Vietnam, and Cambodia eager to retake the territories in Vietnam that had Khmer minorities that are populated there, Vietnam would be in for a two front war, but the Vietnamese could easily turn their country into a nightmare for both China and Cambodia. Vietnam is a Soviet-aligned communist state, directly opposed to China. There is a reason why Brunei and Malaysia are also dragged into the war with China, and that is also because they have claims on the Spratly Islands as well. What I could do, is to do a retcon, where instead of China bombing Malaysia and Brunei, it purchases the Malaysian and Bruneian claims on the Spratly Islands, which in itself would be even more dangerous for Vietnam and the Tadiar regime, as China can use those islands to mount an invasion of Mindanao, Visayas and Palawan. Another thing that we will also encounter here is a different crisis involving Taiwan, something that even Jesse Jackson would be forced to pay attention. Keep in mind that there would be a lot more Sinophobia ITTL, possibly worse than OTL Russophobia, post-Maidan.
Sorry to press this but the point was the Khmer Rogue were allied to China. However this would make both deeply unpopular to Cambodia after the KR were removed. Yes there might be some in the government that would want to claim Vietnamese territory where there are Cambodian descendant populations but would they be willing to side with both China and effectively the KR to do so? Especially since their still rebuilding after the previous wars and the devastation that the KR left behind and they might well fear that if Vietnam was removed as a buffer China might well support the KR against them?
Since this is during the Russian civil war what side was Vietnam supporting in that conflict? If its the rebels then I could see a motive for the sort of brutal mass invasion being described but if the loyalists I suspect it would be more a point of seizing the islands, beating up Vietnam with some air and missile attacks then seeking to make peace with an either implicit or explicit Vietnamese acceptance of the Chinese claim. Unless Beijing has really lost all judgement. I can see the brutality against the Philippines because of the regime similarities which make them bitter enemies and Tadiar's refusal to accept defeat, plus the political isolation he has brought the Philippines. However less certain of a massive invasion of Vietnam.

In this timeline, Onoda-san helped Tadiar and Rogelio Roxas uncover more of the gold. 〈insert pop-up content here〉Onoda's presence in Lubang in 1995 and 1996 becomes one of the main issues that led to the anti-Japanese protests in the Philippines. What we would see in this case is that Vietnam eventually manages to give both China and Cambodia their own Vietnam Wars, albeit even worse than Afghanistan, since there is now a heavy involvement of Chinese airpower, and the Chinese had already learned their lesson from the Soviet heavy bombing that killed Osama Bin Laden ITTL, leading to Abdullah Yusuf Azzam taking control of Al-Qaeda this time round. The Spratly Island conflict began in late 1994, and ends in October of 1995. This is interesting, as Vietnam was mostly dealing with the issue surrounding the FULRO insurgency, so they would not be able to pick any side during the Second Russian Civil War. However, I could take a guess that the Vietnamese government-in-exile might have tried to approach the Russian Provisional Government for support. I suspect that we might also see a civil war in Vietnam as well. Basically, what we will also see in the future here is that Vietnam will end up becoming so unstable that a simple incident could turn into a civil war that would definitely involve the government-in-exile. Vietnam might also be forced into a humiliating peace that would result in a similar situation to post-WWI Germany after the Treaty of Versailles was imposed on her, or France after their surrender to the German Army in 1940. We might also see a Vietnamese analogue to Petain in this case as well.

Chapter Forty-Three: The Biggest Downfall Never Told
PHILIPPINES BARRED FROM INTERNATIONAL SPORTING COMPETITION, SAYS OLYMPIC COMMITTEE, OVER HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS The Sun August 21, 1990
Lausanne, SWITZERLAND – The International Olympic Committee has issued a ban on the Philippines’ participation in all future Olympic events, and other international sporting events, citing massive human rights violations and the illegal seizure of power from the legitimately elected administration of Corazon Aquino by the military junta, led by controversial mastermind of the EDSA People Power Revolution that toppled former dictator Ferdinand Marcos in Artemio Tadiar. The news of the ban comes at a time when the national sports teams of the Philippines had been hit by the exodus of players fleeing from their homeland after Tadiar’s seizure of power and the political purges that he has imposed on the nation. The ban was rather symbolic, as a string of dreadful performances made by whatever is left of the Philippine athletes in the recent disaster that was the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Not only did the Philippines fail to win a single medal, as evident by Leopoldo Serantes’ defeat at the hands of Ivailo Khristov of Bulgaria, earning a bronze medal in boxing for the Bulgarians, but the prominent defection of known naturalized Filipino female swimmer Gillian Akiko Thomson from the Philippines to the United States had been a major source of frustration and embarrassment for the Tadiar regime.
The details of the ban imposed on the Philippines were severe in nature: the Philippines is officially barred from international sporting events for twenty five years, which will include the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, the 1996 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece (where a successful and better prepared bidding campaign on part of the Greek Olympic Committee had defeated Atlanta’s bid), the 2000 Summer Olympics in Manchester, Great Britain (China’s first Olympic bid had resulted in only one vote in the first round, making it the worst first round campaign in the history of the Olympics), the 2004 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy, the 2008 Summer Olympics in Istanbul, Turkey (the first Olympics to be held in a Muslim-majority nation and the first international sporting event to be held in the Islamic world), and the 2012 Summer Olympics in New York City, USA. In addition, while the Philippines rarely participates in the Winter Olympics, the ban also applies to its participation in the Winter Olympics, though redundant and pointless it may be, as the possible candidate to represent the Philippines at the Winter Olympics, Michael Teruel, had chosen to represent the United States instead of his home country, citing his family’s close ties to the Aquino administration, and the danger that the Tadiar regime would pose on him. Even so, the ban on its participation in the 1992 (Albertville, France), 1994 (Ostersund, Sweden), 1998 (Nagano, Japan), 2002 (Salt Lake City), 2006 (Torino, Italy), 2010 (Pyeongchang, Korean Federal Republic), 2014 (Salzburg, Austria), and the 2018 Winter Olympics in Munich, Germany.

GLENN HODDLE APPOINTED INTERIM MANAGER OF ENGLAND NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM, PROMISES ‘TOUGH CHANGES’ IN TRAINING REGIMEN FOR PLAYERS The Sun June 2, 1993
London, UNITED KINGDOM – Following the sacking of Graham Taylor as manager of the England national football team, the English Football Association has announced that it has appointed Glenn Hoddle as its caretaker manager, until a suitable replacement could be found. The disappointing performance in the 1990 World Cup, where England lost to Brazil in penalties, followed by an additional disappointing failure to qualify for Euro 1992, where the Three Lions lost to a surprise Austrian team 3-1 in regulation time, has resulted in the sacking of Taylor, and his replacement by Hoddle. Although Hoddle also functions as a player, if he accepts the position as coach and manager of England’s national football team, he will formally announce his retirement from professional football as a player.
“I admit it: England really needs a wake-up call if it expects to improve in time for the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, and our inexperience in penalty kicks is a major issue,” comments Hoddle, upon his acceptance of the position as manager of the England national football team. “The defeat against Austria in the qualifiers had forced the management to realize that something is wrong with our team.”
Much of England’s football team has relied on its homegrown players for its roster, although the coaching style has so far been criticized by fans and players alike. Current England superstar Gary Lineker had complained of a ‘stale’ gameplay that his team often employed, stressing the need for fresh ideas on how to rejuvenate the struggling English football team.
“All the players eventually grow old and become incapable of adapting to the changing gameplay as the years go by. I find myself joining the fossils who might not be able to adapt properly, but the younger players should be able to adapt easily,” said Lineker, who thought about the current state of English football in general. “Moreover, we have England fans who are causing riots whenever they are on the continent.”
The issue of misbehavior among the England football fans has been a sore point within UEFA, who at more than one occasion, threatened England with sanctions unless it keeps its fans well behaved. The English football association responded by increasing its cooperation with local law enforcement to make sure that known troublemakers are banned from attending future matches. However, the troubles simply moved to a different location if the ban were imposed, meaning that England football fans would often pick fights with local fans at pubs within the continent. During the Euro 1992 qualifying round, English fans were at the center of a brawl in Vienna, where they had gotten into a fight with Austrian ultras. Twelve English fans and twenty-one Austrian fans were arrested by the Viennese police, who notified their English counterparts on what has happened in Vienna during the match. The fight erupted over an Austrian victory celebration gone out of control, along with general drunkenness for the most part.

THE HEARTBREAK CONTINUES! BRAZIL STUN ENGLAND IN CUP FINAL AS TEAM WINS FOURTH WORLD CUP TROPHY, HODDLE EYES FUTURE MANAGER POSITION WITH WALES AFTER INTERIM PERIOD ENDS The Sun July 18, 1994
San Francisco, CALIFORNIA, USA – Just as when England is about to end 28 years of football heartaches, Brazil had come back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game before stoppage time, followed by a goal that everyone will remember for a long time. The first Brazilian goal was scored by Zinho, at the 89th minute, and the game winning goal was scored by 17-year-old wonder kid named Ronaldo, after a completed pass was made to him by MF Mauro Silva. English fans, many of whom had traveled to the United States, will come back home, disappointed that they almost reached their goal of winning the World Cup, though no one on the England national football team blamed each other. Rather, surprisingly enough, it was newly hired manager Glenn Hoddle who accepted the responsibility.
“We had everything in place for our golden victory, and then, all of a sudden, we just let go of the brake and the carriage suddenly tumbled,” Hoddle comments sadly, after a two-hour interview session that was aired live across the United Kingdom. “Like I said a while back, I am just taking charge of our national team, until a better suited manager can take over for me.”
Glenn Hoddle, as the readers will remember, accepted the position as manager of the England national football team on an interim basis, until a suitable candidate would be selected on a permanent basis. While Hoddle oversaw the team, the English football governing body had screened the candidates for the position of manager, and from their assessment of the candidates, it seemed that George Graham might be well suited to take over from Hoddle, once his temporary contract finishes. At the same time, the Welsh national football team had eyed Hoddle with interest, as they are also looking for a new manager to take over their team after John Toshack was fired, and Mike Smith had taken over the team on an interim basis.
Although England had lost the World Cup final, the experience that Hoddle gained while managing the team would prove to be valuable in his next venture, which Welsh fans would appreciate greatly, as Wales had been struggling with their football team lately. Much of Wales had cheered for the English team in the World Cup finals, but to no one’s surprise, the fans from Scotland and the Republic of Ireland had cheered for the Brazilian team, due to their rivalry with England. However, the World Cup was also marred by an incident in Northern Ireland, where the Real IRA had planted and detonated a bomb outside a pub that served the English fans during the semifinals match against Argentina, with additional protests led by IRA sympathizers, in solidarity with the Argentines.
“Ireland and Argentina, two devout Catholic nations, have been victims of British imperialist tyranny and Protestant violence. It is an insult to our ancestors who died from the Famine, to see English fans proudly display their national pride in our country!” yells one Irish Catholic protester, while watching a Catholic priest oversee the procession. “We hoped for England to lose, as payback for centuries of British imperialism, but we will not yet lose hope.”

“The upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Kazakhstan is huge for the entire Central Asian region. Before its rebirth as a modern nation, Central Asia had been the battleground between the crumbling Soviet Union and the rise of China as a superpower before Al-Qaeda’s intervention in the region. It took another war to clear out Al-Qaeda from Central Asia, and it was the Russian Army that drove out the Islamists from the region, but by then, additional border adjustments and further population exchanges had tidied up what was basically a war-torn region in the heart of Eurasia. With the rebirth of Central Asia, comes their appearance in the football scene. You see, the great irony of the 1990 FIFA World Cup was that while the Soviet Union had their worst performance in the tournament, the players who took part eventually became the building blocks of the successful football teams in the post-communist era. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for example, emerged as a powerhouse football team in Central Asia, while Azerbaijan became the dominant football power of the Caucasus. It was not until the 2002 FIFA World Cup that Kazakhstan would qualify for their first FIFA World Cup tournament, while Uzbekistan would have to wait until 2006 to make their debut. However, Azerbaijan would join UEFA in 1995, just weeks after the Second Russian Civil War was over, while all Central Asian states would join the AFC at the beginning of 1996. In addition, the self-imposed isolation from the international community by the Philippines meant that it refused to enter the qualification rounds for every FIFA World Cup tournament, until 2010, when they would finally make their first debut in almost twenty years, only to end in disaster.” Danny Dyer, from the documentary “Football on the New Frontier: Central Asia”, BBC.

PHILIPPINES DRAWN INTO SECOND ROUND MATCH UP, WILL BE IN THE SAME GROUP AS KAZAKHSTAN AND INDONESIA Philippine Daily Inquirer April 15, 2015
Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA – The draw for the second round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup had occurred, and the Philippines is drawn into Group D, where it will be with Central Asian football powerhouse Kazakhstan, SE Asia’s surprise late bloomer Indonesia, plus Myanmar and Tajikistan. Both FIFA and the AFC were careful to put the Philippines and China in the same pot, due to their status as prohibited clashes because of their diplomatic status. Ever since the end of the Spratlys conflict, both China and the Philippines had never signed a formal peace treaty, and the Tadiar regime did not bother to sign a formal armistice, considering itself at a ‘state of perpetual war’ with China, until its claim on the Spratly Islands could be returned, and that China would be driven out of the West Philippine Sea for good. The Chinese government, likewise, considered itself at a ‘state of perpetual war’ with the Philippines, vowing to never stop until it can bring the Philippines to heel, though given China’s conduct during the Spratlys conflict, it could only mean additional rounds of mass murder.
“Our chances are a bit decent, but I would just say that we should tackle one match at a time. There is no point worrying about what will happen if we qualify for the final round,” comments Philippine national football team coach and manager Miroslav Bojko. “All we need to do is to just hustle.”
Ever since taking charge of the Philippine national football team, Miroslav Bojko has somewhat become a popular man in the Philippines, with increased attendance in most Philippine national football team matches since the end of economic sanctions and the lifting of the travel ban imposed on the Philippines in the 2010s. Although Coach Bojko is somewhat unheard of in his native Croatia, his popularity in the Philippines has resulted in more Filipinos visiting Croatia for their European holidays. With Croatia’s entry into the European Continental Association set for January 1, 2018, there are rumors and fears of an increase in food prices and accommodations for foreign tourists visiting Croatia. Moreover, Croatia has become a popular destination spot for avid fans of the HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’, with Dubrovnik being the top spot to visit, due to the filmmakers’ usage of the Dalmatian city for scenes around King’s Landing and Qarth. However, Croatia also faces competition for ‘top Game of Thrones tourist destination’ with neighboring Yugoslavia, where scenes of Volantis was shot in Belgrade, Smederevo, and Cetinje in Montenegro.

Well that was a much better performance for England than OTL. Although it renders outdated the reply I've just sent in the PM. Please ignore that.
I'm not sure that the Olympics would ban the Philippines for 25 years from that date - or is it that they issue a ban and it lasts until Tadiar and his regime are gone? Surprised after their behaviour that China haven't been banned as well, especially since I doubt its atrocities against Vietnam and the Philippines are the last ones they perform. Mind you could see them getting egg on their face like that with a bid to host the Olympics.
I am doubtful however that you would get that many consecutive Olympics in Europe - 4 or 5 if you count Istanbul. Suspect there would be pressure to spread it around the world with at least one in the Americas, if not the US itself and one in the FE/Australia say. Good to see Manchester get some love rather than it always being in London but since that's the middle of the run of 5 that could be the most exposed.
I could see ITA violence like that unfortunately, especially as by this time the extremists were starting to get more isolated with the level of social reform in both parts of Ireland. Also probably continued problems with England fans although if the Heysel Stadium disaster still occurs and as is almost certain the Liverpool fans are blamed for it there would be substantial efforts to rectify this. I notice the Wiki entry on this has some seriously errors on it from what we know of events at the time. - To clarify on this last point the full page associated with it Heysel_Stadium_disaster is more accurate as it highlights the primary causes of the disaster in decisions by UEFA and the local authorities.

I ran into that kind of problem when researching George Graham, so I might redo that update to change things up. The ban on the Philippines would have lasted as long as Tadiar is in power, and this is even harsher than banning Russia from international competition for doping, and this is without Tadiar sponsoring the doping. I’m going to change some of the venues though, but we will not see any Olympics being held on Chinese soil anytime soon.

Chapter Forty-Four: Of Cowboys and Corsairs MEXICAN PROVINCE OF CHIAPAS DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY AS MEXICAN ARMY MOVES INTO ZAPATISTA-CONTROLLED AREAS, TAKES CHARGE OF CHIAPAS’S POLICE FORCES Dallas Times May 19, 1994 San Ramon, CHIAPAS PROVINCE, MEXICO – Yesterday morning, Mexico’s President Carlos Salinas de Gortari had announced that the Mexican Army is moving to restore order in the province of Chiapas, in response to the growth of the Zapatista insurgency. The uprising launched by the Zapatista leader, Subcomandante Marcos, had initially been aimed at improving the conditions of Mexico’s most marginalized indigenous population within that province. However, the presence of Filipino and Chilean mercenaries hired by radical elements of the Mexican military, in collaboration with certain factions of the CIA, had backfired, as their atrocities had singlehandedly strengthened the resolve of the Zapatista rebels. The entrance of the Mexican military into Chiapas had signaled to the Zapatistas that they, the Mexican government, are not in the mood to negotiate with them.
“It is clear that the Mexican government, acting on the orders of their US counterparts who controlled much of the government here, have no intention to hear our demands,” explains Subcomandante Marcos, whose followers had seized much of the arms and ammunition from Chiapas’s municipal police forces throughout the province. “The presence of these fascist mercenaries from Chile and the Philippines only supports our claims that the revolution that we are bringing to Mexico are being targeted by these far-right reactionaries, who do not hesitate to resort to extreme measures to destroy it.”
Although the Zapatistas have claimed that around 13% of Chiapas has come under their control, government sources countered the claim by stating that only 4% of Chiapas are under Zapatista control. Moreover, the Mexican military’s blitzkrieg into Chiapas had caught the Zapatistas off guard, as government troops began to seize control of the western parts of Chiapas that are not under Zapatista control. In addition, Mexican military intelligence agents had collaborated with the Filipino and Chilean mercenaries who were present inside Chiapas, passing valuable information on the weapons cache that are under Zapatista control.
“Under the authority vested in me by the Mexican government, I am authorized to deputize and commandeer any civilian police force needed for pacification purposes,” explains Lt. Colonel Julian Guerrero Barrios, who was appointed as the overall commander of the Mexican forces sent to pacify Chiapas. “In collaboration with the Filipino and Chilean volunteers who have carried out pacification campaigns on their own initiative, we are also working to integrate the foreign volunteers under my control.”
--- “The Pichucalco Massacre in Chiapas, along with the Aguas Blancas Massacre of 1995, were the two main events that eventually led to the Mexican Civil War of 1995-1998, although official Mexican historians in 2013 would insist that the conflict against the Zapatistas and the Popular Revolutionary Army be labelled as the ‘Fourth’ Mexican Civil War, after the first one refers to the Reform War of 1857-1860, the second one refers to the Mexican Revolution that occurred from 1910-1920, and the third one refers to the Cristero conflict, an insurgency between the Mexican government of former President Calles and the Cristero movement, making it a religious-inspired insurgency. The unofficial Fourth Mexican Civil War, which had now erupted along ideological lines, surpassed even the Cristero conflict, both in terms of human atrocities, and war crimes, as both sides would massacre each other’s prisoners. It was this civil war that witnessed the same Filipino and Chilean mercenaries who fought the Zapatistas, being executed by vengeful leftist guerrilla fighters. The infamous Biosfera Montes Azules massacre of April 10, 1996, was a notorious episode, in which captured Filipino mercenaries were gunned down by the guerrillas from the Popular Revolutionary Army. The Tadiar regime’s response to this was rather limited, as the Philippines had just started to recover from the aggressive Chinese bombing campaign against them, and Vietnam as well. However, it was not until 1998 that the Tadiar regime would retaliate by giving a scorched earth order to his new volunteers, as well as to reinstitute collective punishment in areas of southeastern Mexico under PRA control. The collective punishment would happen in the form of reprisals, and in any Mexican town under the joint control of the Mexican military and the foreign volunteers, civilian hostages would be shot every time any soldier was shot. In the town of Bajos de Chila, an entire Filipino platoon under the command of Col. Augusto Moises Garcia Ochoa had started to set several villages on fire, with suspected PRA sympathizers being burnt inside the houses. Even worse, several Mexican right-wing death squads also took part in the massacre of innocent civilians and driving out other survivors of the pacification campaigns. The United States under President Jackson was compelled to take in the refugees fleeing from the right-wing violence that erupted in southeastern Mexico, but the population of Texas were suspicious of the refugees that have arrived at the Texan coastline, after making a perilous journey from Oaxaca to Veracruz, and then sail up the Gulf of Mexico, towards southern Texas.” From the documentary “Latin America in the Post-Cold War Period”, courtesy of BBC, released in 2015.
--- “The trend of generals taking power through coups continued on, even after 1986 with the rise of Artemio Tadiar in the Philippines after the fall of Ferdinand Marcos and the subsequent Philippine Civil War of 1986-88. Venezuela was in a similar scenario to the Philippines, only in that the economic crisis had been the result of the Carlos Perez administration’s acceptance of the International Monetary Fund’s loan with strings attached. The Caracazo event in 1989 was the cornerstone of Venezuela’s descent into political instability. Additional economic instability, on top of the political instability, resulted in the 1992 Venezuelan coup attempt that resulted in the successful capture, trial, and execution of Carlos Perez at the hands of the MBR-200 rebel group, led by an obscure military officer named Hugo Chavez. It was not known as to why some within the Venezuelan Right had allowed their left-wing rivals to execute Perez, but one common consensus was reached, both within the Left and Right of the Venezuelan political spectrum: Perez was a two-faced liar, who railed against the IMF, only to accept an IMF loan in exchange for reforms imposed by the international banking cartel. The CIA’s two factions, the Cowboys, and the Corsairs, became busy with their next pet project for Venezuela: they are looking for a Venezuelan ‘Tadiar’ to wipe out the communists in power, and they engineered a civil war, just so they can escalate the violence in Venezuela, long enough for the Venezuelan Tadiar to emerge. The CIA also took advantage of President Jackson’s foreign policy naivety to expand their activities throughout Venezuela, targeting the MBR-200 leadership for assassination missions, most prominent was the assassination of Francisco Arias Cardenas by a car bomb planted by a Cowboy agent on September 19, 1995. It was not until 1996, when Jack Kemp was elected as the President of the United States, that he began to turn his attention to Latin America and legitimized the activities of the CIA in Venezuela, including the continued search for the elusive Venezuelan Tadiar. Unfortunately, the CIA did not get the Venezuelan Tadiar that they wanted. Rather, they got the Venezuelan bastard child of Antoun Saadeh and Bassel al-Assad, who eventually succeeded his father Hafez in 1998 as dictator of Syria. Starting in 2001, Ramon Rodriguez Chacin emerged as the new leader of Venezuela, while founding a breakaway faction that seceded from MBR-200, called the Venezuelan Social Nationalist Front, which combined left wing nationalism with irredentism. Like Syria’s SSNP, which called for the reclamation of all lands considered as part of ‘Greater Syria’, the VSNF would call for the territories once part of the entity called Gran Colombia to be reunited once more, this time under the banner of the VSNP. The existence of the VSNP, and its successor the Gran Colombian Social Nationalist Movement, proved to be a major nuisance for the rest of the Kemp administration and beyond. What was important in this period, was that Corporate America had stumbled itself like a drunken fool into a bar fight, when it encountered a strong resistance from a hostile Latin American public no longer willing to tolerate US meddling in their nations. Chacin, as opposed to Chavez, would learn his lessons from the former Perez presidency and returned the IMF money in exchange for implementing a series of currency reforms that nationalized the currency production of Venezuela. He began to diversify much of the Venezuelan economy, transforming it from a petrostate, into a major manufacturing hub of South America. Jobs that would have been transferred to Mexico from the US, now ended up in Venezuela, because of the Mexican Civil War. Although Corporate America did manage to enrich itself from the Mexican Civil War of 1995-1998, their failure to select their own puppet in Venezuela would come back to haunt them.” Alex Jones, from “Corporate America’s Dirty Little Secret”, sponsored by “The American Cause”.
--- INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY CONDEMNS MASSACRE COMMITTED IN PICHUCALCO, CALLS FOR DE GORTARI TO BE SENT TO THE HAGUE ON TRIAL FOR WAR CRIMES AND CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY Los Angeles Times July 21, 1994 (Mexico City) – The international community had sent a stern message to the Mexican government, condemning it for the massacre that it committed against captured Zapatista fighters after the recent battle that took place in Muspac, just five days prior to the massacre. Over 700 Zapatista fighters fell under the captivity of the Mexican military after Muspac fell back under government control, while an additional 200 Zapatista fighters were captured by the Chilean mercenary forces, who turned them over to their Mexican counterparts. Finally, another 400 Zapatista fighters were captured by the Filipino mercenary forces, just outside the town of Arriaga, where the heaviest fighting occurred. Mexico’s president Carlos Salinas de Gortari faced pressure from within his own government to resign, while protests aimed at the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party, or the PRI, erupted in various parts of Mexico.
“The neoliberal reforms implemented by the former Salinas government had been a disaster for Mexico. Just ask Venezuela how that went!” comments National Action Party/PAN party leader and Presidential candidate Diego Fernandez de Cevallos, while referring to the infamous 1992 coup that resulted in former Venezuelan President Carlos Perez’s execution at the hands of the MBR-200 rebel officers led by Hugo Chavez Frias. “The last thing Mexico needs is a left-wing military coup against the government.”
Although de Cevallos refrained from commenting on the Zapatista insurgency in Chiapas, his Party came under intense scrutiny, when it was revealed that radical elements of the Mexican military, led by Mario Arturo Acosta Chaparro, had secretly funded de Cevallos’s presidential campaign in exchange for naming Chaparro as Defense Minister of Mexico, should de Cevallos win the election. Furthermore, it was also revealed that several American businessmen, most notably Ross Perot, offered to help de Cevallos with his campaign, in exchange for his vote in the upcoming referendum on the North American Free Trade Agreement. The revelation of Ross Perot’s assistance to de Cevallos proved to be controversial, as the supporters of the ruling party, the PRI, pointed out the similarity between propping up a conservative candidate with possible ties to American corporate interests, and that of America’s attempts to find a suitable candidate to govern Venezuela during the 1992 coup. Furthermore, the rise of Ramon Rodriguez Chacin as the new junta leader of Venezuela complicated things a bit further when he told President Jesse Jackson of the renegade CIA agents’ attempt to choose a ruler to their liking, prompting Jackson to give orders to the FBI to interrogate former Vice President George H.W. Bush for his ties to the faction known as the Cowboys.
--- ROSS PEROT WITHDRAWS FROM 1996 REPUBLICAN PARTY PRIMARIES, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR JACK KEMP Dallas Times February 15, 1996 Republican Presidential nominee Ross Perot discusses his withdrawal of his nomination from the Republican Party presidential primaries, citing the need for Party unity in order to defeat President Jesse Jackson in the 1996 US Presidential elections.Dallas, TEXAS – Former 1992 Presidential nominee for the Republican Party Ross Perot today had announced the withdrawal of his nomination as possible Republican Party candidate for the upcoming 1996 US Presidential elections, citing the growing popularity of Jack Kemp, who rose to prominence as one of the harshest critics of current President Jesse Jackson. Kemp, who courted the Filipino American community for political support after President Jackson’s refusal to send aid to the Philippine government under the control of Artemio Tadiar, following the Chinese bombing of the country that resulted in over 500,000 Filipinos who died from starvation, and other bombing-related injuries. Although the Filipino American community in the United States had grown more political since the fall of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, initially backing Jesse Jackson over Bob Dole in the 1992 US Presidential election, the current President’s refusal to send aid to the Philippines as per the 1951 US-RP Mutual Defense Treaty had resulted in the dramatic exodus of Filipino American members of the Democrat Party, and their defection to the Republican Party.
“Right now, our main goal is to drive President Jackson out of office and replace him with a President who will not hesitate to stand up to China,” comments Ross Perot, who subsequently decided to back Jack Kemp in his quest for the candidacy as a representative of the Republican Party. “He has performed surprisingly well on the domestic front, but his continued reliance on Madeleine Albright and other members of the Council for Foreign Relations has proven to be a liability. It essentially makes him a puppet of Madam Albright.”
Following the failed attempt at impeaching President Jackson for his refusal to abide by the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty, as well as the recent scandal involving his collusion with the Chinese and Cambodian governments in attempting to force Vietnam to acquiesce to their demands, most notably the Vietnamese cession of its territories populated by the Khmer minority inside Vietnam to Cambodia, and its claims of the Spratly Islands to China, the Democratic Party looked more vulnerable than ever, largely thanks to Democrat House of Representative member James Traficant, who delivered the Articles of Impeachment against President Jackson. It was also hinted that Joe Lieberman and Dick Gephardt would also nominate themselves in the upcoming 1996 Democratic Party presidential primaries, due to their fears of a possible Democratic loss in the 1996 US Presidential election. As for Perot himself, he has hinted at turning his attention to running for the 1998 Texas Gubernatorial election, as an independent candidate to challenge Texas’s incumbent governor, George W. Bush.
--- RUSSIA AND GERMANY BOTH CONDEMN CHINESE BOMBING OF THEIR EMBASSIES IN MANILA, TOTAL OF 36 EMBASSY WORKERS IN BOTH EMBASSIES AMONG CASUALTIES Philippine Daily Inquirer May 9, 1995 Manila, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION – Both Russian President Gennady Burbulis and German Chancellor Rudolf Scharping issued a warning to the Chinese government, condemning the People’s Liberation Army Air Force for their naked aggression against their embassies in Manila, as part of China’s bombing campaign against the Philippines during the Spratly Islands conflict. The condemnation comes at a time when news of China’s bombing of the Japanese Embassy in Manila also came to light, triggering anti-Chinese sentiment in Japan after it was revealed that 9 Japanese Embassy workers were killed in the attack. Russian Embassy officials confirmed the report that 22 of their embassy staff were among the dead, while the German Embassy officials did the same, confirming the report that 14 of their embassy staff were killed in the bombing as well. The European Continental Association, which was the successor to the European Community, also condemned the attack, labeling China’s reckless bombing of foreign embassies as a ‘war crime’, only for the Chinese government to dismiss their warnings.
“We are simply doing what the West has done to other lands during their colonial times, teaching the natives their proper place,” comments Chinese PLA general Wang Dongxing, who was asked by state-run media journalists. “It is rather hypocritical for them to condemn us for what they themselves have done.”
The surge in anti-Chinese sentiment within the West, and in Japan, had also resulted in the slight remilitarization of both Russia and the ECA member states, with even outgoing French President Francois Mitterand calling for closer military integration of the ECA member states, as well as deepening NATO’s military cooperation with Russia. Likewise, the Spanish government called for international sanctions to be imposed on China for their reckless attack on their embassies in the Philippines, even as their ambassadors are preparing to evacuate from the Philippines. During the Chinese bombing campaign, much of the foreign embassies were in the process of evacuating its staff, in light of the growing international ostracization of the Philippines due to the Tadiar regime’s human rights violations, with only the Japanese, Chilean, and Argentine Embassies confirmed to remain open, while the Australian Embassy’s staff members there thought of evacuating, before decided to remain in the Philippines, to serve as a conduit for any Filipino seeking to leave the country for immigration purposes.
“We are facing a resurgence of the communist threat coming from China, and if we allow them to get away with literal mass murder, then we might as well tolerate Artemio Tadiar’s act of mass murder against his political opponents,” says Australian independent politician Pauline Hanson, whose comments about racial issues in Australia had garnered criticism from the Australian public. “It is disgusting that the international community should tolerate China’s military aggression in whichever sea they wanted to call it, while at the same time highlighting the human rights violations committed by the Tadiar regime.”
The Australian Embassy did come under intense Chinese bombardment, but luckily no embassy staff member there had died from the bombing attack. Still, the Chinese bombing had resulted in anti-Chinese riots erupting in cities like Sydney, Vancouver, Toronto, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, while in the Russian Far Eastern city of Vladivostok, thousands of Russian nationalists held a rally in memory of the embassy workers killed in Manila, which quickly turned into an anti-Chinese pogrom when three Chinese tourists appeared close to the rally, causing the nationalists to attack them, resulting in one confirmed death and two other beaten Chinese tourists sent to the hospital to tend to their wounds, before Russian Far Eastern authorities promptly deported them back to China.
--- CHIRAC, BALLADUR, TO ADVANCE TO SECOND ROUND OF 1995 FRENCH ELECTIONS, JOSPIN’S SOCIALIST PARTY HAMMERED AT THE POLLS The Sun April 24, 1995 Edouard Balladur steps out of his car as he approaches his supporters during the 1st Round of the French Presidential election. His party, the Union for French Democracy, had stunned the French establishment by trouncing Lionel Jospin's Socialist Party in the 1st Round, and is expected to face Jacques Chirac in the 2nd Round.Paris, FRANCE – Lionel Jospin’s Socialist Party, which was widely expected to advance into the second round, had received the biggest political shock of its life, when they were soundly defeated by both Jacques Chirac’s Rally for the Republic Party, and Edouard Balladur’s Union for French Democracy, which came in first and second place, respectively. Another notable shock to the Socialist Party was Jospin’s Trotskyite stance, which alienated him from much of the bigger crowd, who placed their votes instead for the French Communist Party, which was in need of direct support after a scandal erupted in February of 1995, where Robert Hue had angrily commented on the ‘uselessness’ of the Soviet loyalist government during the Second Russian Civil War, and inadvertently revealed its members’ identities who fought as foreign volunteers for the Soviet loyalist government. In contrast, Jean Marie Le Pen’s National Front received even less votes than their communist rivals, primarily due to their controversial endorsement for Artemio Tadiar’s regime in the Philippines, which saw the military dictatorship as a ‘necessity’ for helping Europe stem the tide of immigration, by keeping Filipinos from escaping their country.
“The fight is not yet over, and I promise you, fellow supporters, that we will not stop until we have achieved our ultimate goal!” says Balladur in front of his supporters. “When we win, our first goal is to force Turkey to acknowledge the 1915 massacres against its Armenian minority as a ‘genocide’.”
Balladur, who was originally born in Izmir, Turkey, to Armenian immigrants who moved to France in the 1930s, had campaigned against Turkey’s possible admission into the European Continental Association, on both political and geographical grounds, the former due to its refusal to recognize the 1915 deportations of Armenians as a form of ‘genocide’, which Turkey insists was a legal deportation due to the potential of the Armenian population of the former Ottoman Six Viyalets as recruits for the Imperial Russian Army. Moreover, Balladur had campaigned strongly in favor of issuing an international arrest warrant for not only Artemio Tadiar, but his two trusted lieutenants, Saulito Aromin and Eduardo Doromal, for their role in the controversial incident in Khojaly, Azerbaijan, where the Filipino peacekeepers acted outside their jurisdiction as UN peacekeepers with the UNAACP, defending the Azeri villages when their official job was to simply stop the two sides from killing each other.
--- INFAMOUS FILIPINO ROCK BAND BANNED FROM PERFORMING IN CANADA AND UNITED STATES DUE TO CONTROVERSIAL LYRICS IN THEIR SONGS Vancouver Sun January 21, 2008 Vancouver, BRITISH COLUMBIA – A prominent but infamous Filipino patriotic rock band, known only as ‘Arisaka’, has been banned from conducting a live performance in Canada and the United States, as announced by Canadian and American immigration authorities, after a video of noted singer Gabriel Lapusan emerged on the popular social media website, VossCode. The video of Lapusan, who was singing a nationalist song, contained lyrics related to anti-Chinese sentiment, incitement of racial hatred, and most controversially, open praise of notorious military dictator, Major General Artemio Tadiar. The ban was imposed at the behest of several Chinese Canadian and Chinese American organizations, who felt uncomfortable with the increased anti-Chinese attacks aimed at them, mostly from white nationalists who feared a growing Chinese influence in their countries, but at the same time, Canadians and Americans of both Filipino and Vietnamese descent have also been known to have taken part in Sinophobic related attacks as well.
“Canada will never tolerate the rise of racism against any ethnic minority that chooses to settle here, whether it is from neo-Nazis, or Filipino and Vietnamese extremists,” comments local Chinese Canadian activist Peter Kung, who was himself a target of a 2005 vigilante attack that occurred in downtown Vancouver, at the hands of Vietnamese gangs. “We approve of the Canadian government’s decisive action taken against the rock band ‘Arisaka’, although they should choose a better name, as ‘Arisaka’ refers to a Japanese rifle used by Japanese troops during WWII.”
Gabriel Lapusan, who founded the rock group ‘Arisaka’, had originally worked in Japan as a factory worker in a manufacturing plant, producing components for a popular figurine from a local anime show, before saving enough money to send back to the Philippines and gathering four additional members of the rock band, who also worked in the same job as he did in Japan, to found ‘Arisaka’. The band name ‘Arisaka’ was adopted, after the Japanese bolt action rifle used by the Imperial Japanese Army during WWII. Since rising to prominence in 1998, during a nationalist rally concert that was sponsored by both Tadiar and Nicanor Faeldon, ‘Arisaka’ had become a popular band within the Philippines, but its lyrics praising both Tadiar, and the Japanese-sponsored Second Philippine Republic, had been a source of tensions between the Philippines and the rest of Asia, who were victimized by Japanese imperialism during WWII. Some of the songs that ‘Arisaka’ had sung contained references to the failed Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, and genocide apologism, comparing the 1937 Nanking Massacre to a bug exterminator’s work. Most notably however, Lapusan himself is a descendant of a WWII era Filipino collaborator who joined the notorious Makapili, a pro-Japanese militia charged with fighting both American soldiers and Filipino resistance fighters battling the Japanese occupation.
“We are nationalists. Patriots who care much about our country, and how Artemio Tadiar was the only one who dared to defy the Chinese communist, and we are proud of him for that,” comments Lapusan, who also collects WWII memorabilia, especially that of Imperial Japan and most shockingly, that of Nazi Germany (though only WWII Wehrmacht mess kits). “Jesse Jackson stabbed the Philippines in the back, and practically offered our country to Red China as an animal sacrifice. Our enmity with America, though minor, is only aimed at the traitors within the American government who chose to accommodate the communist barbarians.”
--- “I did not have any choice in the matter, regarding the Sino-British Declaration that dictated Hong Kong’s return to Chinese rule, and for a while, I was preparing Hong Kong’s democratic institutions so that when it does return to Chinese rule, China would respect the One Country, Two Systems policy, and in return, Hong Kong would fully be integrated back into China by 2047. Now that I saw China’s naked military aggression in the South China Sea during the Spratlys conflict, I am now disillusioned with the thought of a smooth return of Hong Kong to Chinese rule. At the same time, we cannot legally do anything to reverse this situation, except for going to war against China, which we will obviously not do at all. However, after I talked to the residents of Hong Kong, they told me that they would prefer to move to Singapore, where the culture there is like that of Hong Kong itself, then the rest of the world. I do not think that the international community would be eager to welcome any potential Hong Kong refugee who found themselves fleeing from Chinese rule, given the increased Sinophobia in SE Asia, especially the Philippines, where numerous rich Chinese families, many of whom have settled in the Philippines since Spanish colonial times, have been forcibly expelled, and their wealth taken over by the Tadiar regime. Moreover, Singapore only has 5,000,000 people living within its borders, while Hong Kong has 7,000,000. Overpopulation problems might also occur if many Hong Kong residents choose to immigrate to Singapore, and that is already on top of the Chinese Indonesian immigration to Singapore because of a worse anti-Chinese riot that led to the fall of President Suharto and the rise of Prabowo Subianto as his successor.” Chris Patten, from an interview with BBC on the topic of Hong Kong’s future, 2000.

By the way, would the Chinese launch attempted landings? They might be, although that could be something not even Jesse Jackson would ignore. In addition, we're also coming at the Taiwan crisis as well. That's a sure way for Jackson to be impeached once the PLA does land in the Philippines. You'd probably see the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff resign over that because that is undermining the defense treaty with the Philippines. If Jackson won't intervene in Taiwan, well it's gonna be the final nail to his administration. Also not to mention if the Chinese do invade the Philippines, they would face guerrilla war especially in the jungles. Keep in mind this is 50 years from World War II and memories of the Japanese occupation is still fresh. I could see Luzon become the next Vietnam War for them. Consider that at the same time the PLA is also in Vietnam so they would be fighting a two-front war.

I doubt even Ye Fei would be insane to recommend to the Chinese bigwigs to send ground troops to his former homeland, without triggering a wider conflict with the US. Keep in mind, the Taiwan Straits Crisis would be one way for Jackson to avoid getting impeached again, but it is a good way for him to lose the 1996 US presidential election to Jack Kemp, who would become a more aggressive president.
Also, Vietnam is also in the middle of a two-front war with China and Cambodia, so if China sends actual troops to invade the Philippines, it will indeed fight a two front war as well. Although seeing Cambodia as the weak link, Vietnam might be able to retake some of its lost territories, and unfortunately pull a scenario to Operation: Storm of OTL, or Operation: Batyr of TTL. Ironically enough, the recent Chinese attempt at invading the Philippines might actually make the Filipinos view Japan with more positivity, since Jesse Jackson pretty much hung them out to dry, and we are already seeing it by the rehabilitation (later on) of the Second Philippine Republic, and this would also create a different conflict between the Philippines and the rest of SE Asia that suffered from Japanese occupation (except Indonesia, since much of Indonesia's pro-independence fighters were actually trained by the Japanese).

This is looking very grim for everybody, with the possible exception of Europe and the new Russian state. China is ever more murderous and deranged than OTL, the Philippines has a tin-pot Hitler who is happy turning that country [as well as others] into a graveyard and the CIA are doing everything they can to distablise Latin America, as well as the US itself. Worst of all possibly is
If Jackson can't keep the idiots in the CIA under control what the hell will those nutters get up to when they have actual Presidential support? That Kemp is a moronic idiot in TTL doesn't surprise me unfortunately but a lot of chickens are going to come home to roost for the US even if democracy recovers there.

The moment the PLA would make landfall in the Philippines it would be a bloodbath because the Chinese would have a hard time navigating through the jungles. I could the see the beaches of Appari, Lingayen, La Union, etc be defended or even be placed with booby traps. Come urban warfare and it would be a nightmare. Filipinos would not want to be under a foreign power again and even someone has weak as Jackson would not abandon Taiwan. With the U.S. Navy going to defend Taiwan here even one carrier strike group could cover the entirety of Luzon so the Chinese would not dare. I could see the Khmer Rouge get streamrolled once more. They are not a highly trained force so the VPA would definitely route them. In addition, the Vietnamese too would see the Japanese as saviors despite being occupied by them 50 years prior. Just like the case of Indonesia, over 800 Imperial Japanese Army soldiers remained in Vietnam where they trained and organized the Viet Minh. Most of these Japanese soldiers had reasons ranging from humiliation to return to an U.S.-occupied Japan, anting to keep the Empire's promise of ridding Asia of Westerners, or to escape from war criminal trials.

I also suggest Rage of the Machine being assassinated by Tadiar's Death Squads, or Propagandhi for criticizing Tadiar in their songs.
Probably they will use bombs.
