A new chapter arrived! And Manny is an arnis practitioner instead of a boxer here. It's another OMAKE, and right now, I'm having writer's block because of various things, mostly playing the Extended Timeline mod of EU4 and starting a new timeline with a Wars of the Roses PoD.

Sorry for the very long delay, and Rogue Generals is officially back after a very long hiatus, OMAKEs aside.

Chapter Ninety-Eight: The Second Korean War Part Four
SEOUL COMES UNDER HEAVY NORTH KOREAN ARTILLERY FIRE, INCHEON AND GIMPO AIRPORTS TO CEASE OPERATIONS TEMPORARILY AS FOREIGN NATIONALS LEAVE SOUTH KOREA Japan Times October 6, 2002 (Seoul) - The South Korean government today has announced that all foreign civilian aircraft not yet departing from South Korean soul have up to 48 hours to depart, as President Lee Hoi-Chang has ordered that Seoul-Gimpo and Seoul-Incheon Airports are to cease operations while the North Korean forces are on the verge of advancing into the South Korean capital. In addition, several South Korean government officials have also evacuated from the capital to the city of Daegu, where they have set up an interim government that will oversee the daily administration of the entire country. South Korean military officers have confirmed that the North Korean forces have in fact, started launching artillery strikes at the outskirts of the South Korean capital, primarily around the towns of Paju and Yangju. In response to the North Korean artillery bombardment of Seoul, the South Korean military have started to deploy most of its aircraft to carry out various airstrikes around the North Korean positions, with a few bombing runs against the supply routes that are used by the KPA.
"Seoul will withstand the bombardment by our old enemy, which has never given up its ambition to reunite the Korean peninsula under their dangerous communist ideology. We have never forgotten how close we came to losing our freedom back in 1950, and so we are more than prepared to take the fight to the communists in Pyongyang," says President Lee, during the session in the South Korean National Assembly. "To that effect, I have given the order for various airports within the border regions to cease operations temporarily, and for the airport staff to relinquish control of the airport to the Republic of Korea Air Force for their usage."
In the meanwhile, all of the airports that are operating in South Korea other than the ones close to the front lines have also decided to cease operations temporarily, and to open its use to the South Korean Air Force, which is in a need of several airfields from which they could use to repair damaged aircraft, as well as to allow other friendly forces to use its airfields to bring in fresh troops and heavy equipment. So far, the reinforcements coming primarily from the Philippines and the US military bases in Okinawa and Japan have used the recently closed Busan Airport and Port to ferry in troops and equipment, while British, Canadian, and Australian forces have landed in the smaller port of Mokpo. Other troops from minor nations have landed in the port of Pohang, including the troops from Turkey and Azerbaijan. At the same time, the Kemp administration has also announced that the US military has ordered its nuclear arsenal to be prepared, just in case the North Korean forces have launched their own nuclear bombs. Although President Kemp's decision to increase the alertness level of the American nuclear arsenal have been met with skepticism, many foreign governments have expressed their concern.
"We are dealing with a rogue state that has a nuclear arsenal of their own, and will not hesitate to use them," says US Vice President Lamar Alexander, during an interview with NBC. "However, we are also trying our best to show restraint by not launching the first missile, despite the President's temptation to do so."
--- FORMER KARATE KID CASTS HOLD A PEACE RALLY IN SAN FRANCISCO, CALLING FOR THE DOWNFALL OF NORTH KOREAN COMMUNIST REGIME, AS WELL AS FOR US MILITARY TO SHOW MORE RESTRAINT IN DEALING WITH NORTH KOREAN ARMY San Francisco Times October 13, 2002 (San Francisco) - In what is emerging as a growing trend among certain actors, several film casts from the Karate Kid series have staged a peace rally in the outskirts of San Francisco. Led by Pat Morita, the newly created peace organization called the Miyagi Peace Alliance, named after his iconic character in the Karate Kid films, have launched initiatives to educate the public about the ongoing conflict in the Korean Peninsula, as well as calling for the end of the North Korean communist regime and to restore peace in the entire Asia-Pacific region. Although the Miyagi Peace Alliance has no clear leader, as collective leadership is exercised, Morita has been elevated to a de facto honorary founder of the alliance. In addition, several stars like Martin Kove, Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, and Thomas Ian Griffith, have also joined the peace rally, and has called for all communities, regardless of ethnic and religious origins, to come and join the rally.
"We have seen what war can do to a country like the two Koreas. I remember the time when I personally campaigned in this beautiful city for our government to help the Philippine administration of Corazon Aquino fight against the former dictator in Ferdinand Marcos, unaware that Artemio Tadiar was waiting in the wings. Like a cobra, Tadiar struck first against his former boss, then struck hard against President Aquino, and showed no mercy to his political opponents," says Kove during his speech in John McClaren Park. "However, we are disturbed by the growing political extremism expressed by President Jack Kemp when he called for another crusade against communism. What has that crusade brought to us now? Mass murder, torture, various human rights abuses, and a deepening divide that threatens to split this country. I say to you, fellow Americans, set aside your anger and work towards peace."
The launching of the Miyagi Peace Alliance was at the initiative of both Morita and Kove, and while the organization was seen as an attempt to reunite the Karate Kid stars together, they were eventually united by a cause for peace. However, the Miyagi Peace Alliance activists who joined the group during the rally have been met with counter-demonstrators who support the war effort, and there was even a report of a fight between Kove and several far-right activists, who accuse the Miyagi Peace Alliance of being under the pay of Chinese and North Korean spies.
"These actors should just stick to acting, and not get involved with politics. It only makes them even stupider than they already are," says US Army Sergeant Kevin Mellanby, who is slated to be deployed to South Korea in a few days. "Our President has promised the American people that he will bring down the North Korean communist regime, and we fully intend to carry out that promise."
--- CHINESE MILITARY AID ARRIVES IN PYONGYANG AIRPORT AS KOREAN PEOPLE'S ARMY FORCES CONTINUE PUSH TOWARDS SOUTH KOREAN CAPITAL, NEWS OF BURMESE UPRISING CONFIRMED BY CHINESE INTELLIGENCE South China Morning Post November 15, 2002 (Pyongyang) - China's military officials have confirmed that around 120 tonnes of military equipment have arrived in Pyongyang Airport as the Korean People's Army have continued their slow push towards the South Korean capital of Seoul. The Minister of National Defense of the People's Republic of China, General Chi Haotian, has reported to have said that the North Korean forces were in dire need of upgraded infantry equipment, as their own licensed copies of the AK assault rifles have started to degrade, due to years of neglect and lack of resources needed to maintain them. Replacing their older AK derivatives with the QBZ-95 assault rifle that originated in China and was recently introduced in 1997, the North Korean military have started to slowly decommission some of their older equipment, especially the ones that consume more resources needed to keep its maintenance. Additionally, several Chinese volunteers have also arrived in North Korea, presumably to help train the new North Korean conscripts that have recently joined, but General Chi has also confirmed that these volunteers are actually Chinese special forces. Moreover, around 400 volunteers from Armenia have arrived as part of their live training exercise in actual combat, as part of their military education in the People's Liberation Army National Defense University.
"While I would be confident to say that our North Korean comrades might be able to force the South Koreans into a negotiating table, I'm not sure as to what the long term outcome will be if they won," says General Chi, during an interview with Chinese state television reporters. "If I had to travel to the DPRK to advise Chairman Kim on the conduct of the war, I would have told him to just force the South Koreans and Americans into a stalemate that might be more beneficial to them than their enemies."
Although not all heavy equipment was shipped to the DPRK, the Chinese government has shipped enough ammunition to the Korean People's Army, including grenades and most importantly, QW-1 Vanguard MANPADS and HJ-8 anti-tank missiles that the North Korean military needed. However, the planned intervention in North Korea was placed on hold, mainly because Chinese military intelligence notified Chairman Bo of an invasion of Myanmar by Western-backed Burmese exiles with ties to the old junta. The Burmese soldiers who served the former military junta were equipped with American weapons, as well as carrying additional Australian and Filipino military equipment. In addition, the CIA has been rumored to have triggered the uprising, mainly by engineering an incident where Burmese civilians protesting their government's alliance with China have spiralled out of control to the point where the caretaker federalist government had no choice but to launch a brutal crackdown on the increasing amount of rioters. The suppression however, played right into the hands of the CIA, which gave the signal for an uprising, as well as the Bay of Pigs-esque invasion of Burma by the Burmese exiles.
"Burmese patriots! We have come back home to liberate you from the yoke of the Chinese giant, and we have also come to settle the score with our enemies who have exiled us from our land!" says Burmese general Than Shwe, upon his arrival in the 'liberated' city of Yangon, accompanied by the exiles who followed him. "Now is the time to overthrow the weak, corrupt, and illegitimate government, which has taken orders from its Chinese master, and to show China that Myanmar shall be the same nation that once defeated their invasions in the past. The spirit of the Konbaung kings who fought the Qing Emperor. We shall defeat the Chinese communists, and if possible, we will even launch an invasion of China itself, to retake the lands that are populated by our ethnic kinsmen!"
--- FINLAND OFFERS TO SEND SOLDIERS AND EQUIPMENT TO SOUTH KOREA AS CONFLICT IN THE KOREAN PENINSULA WORSENS, PRESIDENT LEE ACCEPTS THE OFFER The Sun November 12, 2002 Finnish troops engage in a military exercise somewhere in central Finland. The Jäätteenmäki government has agreed to send not only military and humanitarian aid to South Korea, but has also offered to send volunteers to help the South Korean government fight against the invading North Korean forces.(Helsinki, FINLAND) - As Finland prepares for its upcoming parliamentary election next year in March, the incumbent government of Prime Minister Anneli Jäätteenmäki has sent an offer to the South Korean government, of which Finland proposed to deliver much needed military equipment and humanitarian supplies to their South Korean counterparts. A grateful President Lee Hoi-chang had not only accepted the Finnish offer, but also assigned the port of Changwon for the Finnish Navy to operate their ships and to drop off Finnish volunteers who are sent to South Korea to participate in the ongoing conflict. As a result, over 6,000 Finnish troops have arrived in the port of Changwon over a period of two to three days. The decision made by Prime Minister Jäätteenmäki however, has aroused some criticism from within the Finnish government and especially the Finnish public, who felt that they were being dragged into a war far away from their territories.
"It doesn't make sense for Prime Minister Jäätteenmäki to send those troops halfway across the world, when our commitment to national defense is more important," says Social Democratic Party of FInland Chairman Paavo Lipponen, during a session in the Finnish parliament. "We are supposed to remain a neutral country that doesn't get involved in any foreign entanglements. That was why I was also against Finland's entry into NATO in the first place."
The issue of Finnish aid to South Korea in itself wasn't controversial, given that humanitarian supplies were also sent along with the military equipment. Rather, it's the fear of Finnish soldiers returning home from South Korea in body bags that has caused the controversy to erupt in the first place. The last time Finland has engaged in open military conflict was during the Continuation War, where Finland fought the Soviet Red Army to a standstill, only to stop once the Moscow Armistice was signed and Finland was forced to pay war reparations to the USSR. In addition, Finland still retains the conscription system, meaning that all Finnish adults over the age of 18 are required to serve for a period of two to three years. At the same time however, various Finnish military leaders had seen the deployment of Finnish volunteers to South Korea as an opportunity to gain valuable combat experience and to apply its lessons in the event of a war with the East Slavic Federation. Additionally, the majority of the Finnish military equipment that is being sent to South Korea are mainly armored personnel carriers, but a good chunk of the other military equipment that is being sent to South Korea have consisted of 5 BLG-60M2 armored vehicle-launched bridge and VT-55AS armored recovery vehicles. However, the Finnish military has launched a series of overhauls, where they were looking to remove military vehicles that they've obtained from the former Soviet Union, especially PT-76s and T-72 battle tanks.
"I have discussed this issue of Soviet military vehicles that we've kept for a while with our government, and as a result, we have come to a conclusion that we're making plans to send the surplus tanks to the South Korean military, and to any other foreign nation which has troops fighting in South Korea that are interested in acquiring our Cold War era T-72s and PT-76s," says Finnish Defense Minister Matti Vanhanen, during a press conference in Helsinki."
--- CHINA GIVES HARSH CRITICISM TO CANADA OVER MP'S ANTI-CHINESE COMMENTS DURING LAUNCHING OF PEOPLE'S SOLIDARITY PARTY OF CANADA Vancouver Sun November 9, 2013
(Regina, SASKATCHEWAN) - The Chinese government has issued a harsh sounding criticism against the Canadian government, for what they saw was an attempt by one of the MPs to 'incite hatred against China', over a comment made by MP for Hamilton Centre in former Conservative Party of Canada member Michel Trudeau. The comment in question, refers to Michel Trudeau's answer to an audience member during a question and answer period in the inaugural launching of the People's Solidarity Party of Canada, which was formed over the merger of the Pauper Party and the Libertarian Party. When asked about which governmental system does he like and dislike, Michel Trudeau gives out his controversial answer.
"There is a great amount of contempt and antipathy that I have for China, because their basic dictatorship allows them to commit mass murder and various other war crimes on a whim," says Michel Trudeau. "We have not forgotten their military aggression against Vietnam and the Philippines in the 1990s, and we have not also forgotten that members of the People's Liberation Army were instrumental in the torture of Canadian POWs who fell under their captivity during the Second Korean War."
Trudeau's comments on China however, did not go well with his oldest brother Justin, who had taken a controversially pro-China stance.
"Michel's comments, while they are true, are also wrapped in this increasingly assertive form of Sinophobia. His comments are derisive and racist, and he should apologize for it," says Justin sternly during a session in Parliament, despite the jeers that were thrown at him from his political opponents.
Both brothers have had frosty relations with each other over political differences, and while Michel and his half-brother Kyle Kemper are officially confirmed as members of the People's Solidarity Party of Canada, Justin remains a staunch member of the Liberal Party. However, the comments made by Michel has not only angered the Chinese government, but that of the Chinese Canadian community, albeit for mixed reasons. In addition, PSPC interim leader John Turmel, who formerly headed the Pauper Party of Ontario in the provincial level, had at one point established the federal counterpart in the Pauper Party of Canada, with Ron Gray as its official party leader, and with him in de facto control of the PSPC, he has come out against both Trudeau brothers and their comments regarding China.
"Mr. Michel Trudeau's comments reflect a young politician who is inexperienced in the art of politics, and needs guidance on how to conduct himself in public as a political representative," says Turmel during a press conference in Regina. "Mr. Justin Trudeau on the other hand, should also keep in mind that not all Chinese Canadians are supportive of their country, as the majority of the wealthy Chinese business families that have settled in Canada are political opponents of Bo Xilai and Wang Shaoguang, and they have legitimate reasons to be afraid of Justin Trudeau's unabashed support for the Chinese New Left. Or he may be pretending to show support, as he is good at political theater. Just take a look at his record when he played a minor character in the popular sitcom, Friends."
--- "In what was to become North Korea's equivalent of the Battle of Stalingrad, the KPA forces had expected an easy victory in the town of Gangneung as they continued their offensive. Indeed, the North Korean forces had captured over 70% of the city, but the remaining 30% of Gangneung's urban geography remained in the hands of the South Korean and coalition forces. Only the southern bank of the Namdae River remained outside North Korean control, but this is where the fighting was at its thickest, primarily because of the Gangneung Air Base that the South Korean military still retained control of. It was at the Battle of Gangneung that the legend behind the notorious volunteer brigades had arisen. The Berdugo Brigade that was led by a rising star and Tadiar protege in Jovito Palparan, had played a role in the successful retaking of the Catholic Kwandong University against a garrison of 600 North Korean soldiers that occupied the building, although their first notoriety came when most of those North Korean soldiers surrendered only after being bombarded with multiple flash bang grenades, did the Berdugo Brigade soldiers massacred them all. Yet, their true scope of the brutality would only be revealed once they've entered North Korean territory for the first time. Even when the North Korean forces outnumber them by approximately 2 to 1, they've suffered their first defeat of the war. While North Korea may still enjoy a few more victories, the Battle of Gangneung would become the turning point in the Second Korean War, as the survivors of the Kwandong University ordeal would eventually be recruited into the redemption brigades, albeit as a separate battalion under the command of the South Korean military and the Korean Central Intelligence Agency. The so-called Kwandong Battalion would earn a reputation for being one of South Korea's most brutal homegrown paramilitary units, and would also play a role in the notorious Pyeonghwa Motors factory strike, where members of the Kwandong Battalion, along with the other paramilitary units that were hired by the bankrupted company, would massacre over 700 factory workers as punishment for going on strike. Those 700 factory workers originally came from the now-former North Korea, and it was this massacre that played into the hands of the defunct Provisional Government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and a radical politician named Huh Kyoung-young, that the seeds for Korea's first post-reunification political conflict was planted." Korean would be reunified around 2004 right? Yes, although in this case the territories of what is OTL North Korea would be placed under a special status. What I would gradually see is that the provinces of OTL North Korea would have a special status where they would be given more economic and political reform, starting with the ones that are the closest, and after either 20 to 25 years, that province would be considered integrated enough to relinquish its special status, but the implementation would be done every five years, so for example: Kangwon would be the first to be given immediate political and economic reform, followed by both North and South Hwanghae, although I would see the South Korean government merge the two Hamgyongs, Hwanghaes, and Pyongans into just a unified entity, instead of leaving them as separate provinces. Imagine if the OTL proposal to split Palawan had gone through, that's what those ex-North Korean provinces are like. And as we may have already seen ahead, these reforms will run into a sort of trouble that might become worse for Korea overall ITTL, so basically a fast kind of reunification that creates more problems than solutions. However, a reunited Korea would also be a geopolitical wild card that might be unpredictable, and China might have a bigger interest in Finlandizing the entire Korean peninsula, as to prevent any potential invasion into its territory from the Korean Peninsula (having in mind the Japanese invasions of the past), and at the same time Japan would also have a bigger interest in keeping a reunited Korea neutral for the same reason as China does (likewise to prevent any potential seaborne invasion of the Japanese homeland from any hostile power, which explains why in the 1900s a Russian-aligned Korea was a security threat to Japan).

Speaking of which, I found this trending video on Facebook. Then-senator Joe Biden comments about the 1986 EDSA Uno revolution. And today Philippine time, it is the anniversary of EDSA Uno. In a couple of chapters, we would get back to SE Asia, and address the Patani conflict, and in a future update, I’ll cover TTL’s version of SARS in the Zambezi Flu pandemic.

Chapter Ninety-Nine: The Second Korean War Part Five
Excerpts from "A Peninsula of Fire, Blood, and Steel: Korea's Costly Reunification" by: Okubo Miyazaki University of Tokyo Publishing Press
Chapter Three: The Meatgrinder Out of Hell
The end of the nightmare that was the Battle of Gangneung did not officially occur until February 25, 2003, only after the occupying North Korean forces had run out of ammunition and had to resort to house to house combat. Like the Battle of Stalingrad, there was a critical position that was contested between two combatants. In this case, it was the Gangneung Airbase that was being operated by the South Korean Air Force. However, it was the heavily contested battle for the Gangneung Ferry Terminal that proved to be just as brutal and important, because it was at this site that the naval clashes between the two Koreas had occurred on South Korean waters for the first time, with the South Korean Navy, assisted by the Canadian, Australian, and American navies providing support towards them, decisively defeating the North Korean Navy, which had now been reduced to torpedo boats and mini submarines. Within Gangneung, the survivors of the North Korean occupation of their city had banded themselves together to resist, as most of the university students there had formal military training, thanks to South Korea's mandatory conscription system. These survivors, who often took part in resisting the North Korean occupational forces, would eventually go on to form one of South Korea's emerging paramilitary groups. The Kwandong Battalion would also become one of the most notorious of South Korea's homegrown paramilitary forces, since they proved themselves to be capable of killing North Korean POWs. It was not until the South Korean military leadership's request for the paramilitary groups that emerged in other parts of South Korea to subordinate themselves to the Republic of Korea Reserve Forces that the Kwandong Battalion would nearly fade into obscurity. However, the paramilitary forces that emerged after 2002 would now constitute the Territorial Defense Reserve Forces, which would act as a kind of minutemen that would instantly mobilize in the event of emergencies. Though while they also function in a similar manner to the Mobilization Reserve Forces, the Territorial Defense Reserve Forces would be established throughout South Korea's provinces. Ironically, the Territorial Defense Reserve Forces was organized on the same provincial and municipal level as their North Korean counterpart in the Worker-Peasant Red Guards, meaning that these troops in the TDRF would be deployed instantly into any areas in need of attention.
An incursion into North Korean-occupied Nodong-ri by the precursors to the TDRF in February 28, 2003 had unfortunately resulted in a disastrous defeat for the South Koreans, but by then the Kwandong Battalion had learned the harsh lessons of war. It was at Nodong-ri that the North Korean forces started to experience other supply shortages, leading to desertions and surrenders, though these were discouraged by both North Korean commissars who were there to prevent any North Korean soldier from surrendering, and South Korean vigilantes who now joined the Kwandong Battalion in hunting down and killing any North Korean deserter, regardless of whether or not they've deserted, or gotten lost. However, the bigger set of meatgrinders have yet to emerge, as the South Koreans and their allies would learn to their horror, when they entered the town of Chuncheon, which was also occupied by the North Korean forces and their allies in the volunteer groups that were deployed to North Korea. What they found in Chuncheon was a city brimming with North Korean troops garrisoned inside buildings, and various traps that are laid there to hamper the advancing South Korean and coalition forces. The meatgrinder of Chuncheon was about to get nastier, as the North Korean forces unleashed a series of counterattacks against the advancing coalition forces. For instance, the South Korean military had deployed over 25 K136 Kooryoung rocket artillery pieces, in addition to three dozen K9/A1 Thunder self-propelled artillery vehicles, just outside Chuncheon. The barrage began in March 7, 2003, when Chuncheon awoke to the sound of South Korean artillery. The US military too, deployed most of their self-propelled artillery pieces and multiple rocket launchers as well, though in smaller numbers. Three days later, the first group of South Korean and coalition forces entered Chuncheon's Hyoja-dong neighborhood, where urban combat was intense. Although the North Korean forces had entrenched themselves with various pillboxes and tanks, the South Korean forces responded by bringing in their helicopters to spot the areas where anti-aircraft personnel and anti-tank personnel are located. The basin around the Soyang and Han Rivers provided excellent natural defenses for the North Korean garrison, as evident by their control of Legoland Korea Resort, which they turned into their makeshift fortress that guards the Soyang River. It was at Chuncheon that the casualties of the Second Korean War would surpass the Battle of Bloody Ridge of the First Korean War, with an approximately 15,000 casualties on both sides, with the North Koreans having more casualties.

Excerpts from the Interview with Sergeant Oh Han-Gyeol, former Territorial Defense Reserve Force Soldier Sky News AU March 17, 2019
Discussing the Cheorwon Massacre and its Aftermath
Interviewer: You've testified in front of witnesses in a separate tribunal where former North Korean officials and military officers were tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity, but you've repeatedly had difficulty in keeping yourself calm. I understand how the tragedy of Cheorwon must have affected you. Is that right?
Oh: (in Korean) Yes, ma'am. I never forgot the unusual stink that I smelled when our unit first entered Cheorwon, and it was only a half hour later that my boots felt something squishing. I looked down, and the ground was partially mixed with mud and blood.
Interviewer: (gasps) Blood?
Oh: Yes, and there were insects flying around the ground, so I approached my superior and reported to him about the blood on the mud. He was about to dismiss it when he smelled the stench and coughed.
Interviewer: So the discovery was by accident?
Oh: Yes, and we were thankful that we discovered it, or the Cheorwon Massacre would have remain unreported. A few days later, our troops dug up the ground, and sure enough, there were several corpses that were already rotting. One of the TDRF troops who was a medic, she noticed the signs of torture on one of the dead soldiers, and the uniform that he wore was one of ours, but the name tag was taken off.
Interviewer: According to official reports on the Cheorwon Massacre Inquiry, the number of confirmed South Koreans and Filipinos who were executed ranged in the thousands. Is this true?
Oh: (scoffs) More than that. Tens of thousands, because some of the troops that were killed came from other parts of Korea that the Norks had occupied, especially the eastern regions. A few of the corpses were identified by the other members of the TDRF as the troops who took part in the North Korean capture of Sokcho back in 2002, while some corpses turned out to be Turkish soldiers who were forced to surrender. When Turkish General Yaşar Büyükanıt learned of the fate of those poor Turkish troops that were massacred by the North Koreans, he was livid. Livid enough to order his own soldiers to kill any enemy soldier that wanted to surrender, which would naturally consist of North Korean soldiers, but the Armenian volunteers sent by the Chinese government would receive a special treatment as well, in the form of being flayed and burnt alive.
Interviewer: The nature of the brutality that was witnessed in the Korean peninsula during the Continuation War was so horrific, that the international community pleaded with both sides to show restraint during wartime, but so far, that only infuriated the soldiers fighting on the front line. Is that true?
Oh: Unfortunately, yes. A few Korean-Americans who were in the military and deployed on their homeland were especially vocal about the so-called Miyagi Peace Alliance. Other than that, we did admire President Kemp for his determination to help us reunify the Korean peninsula. However, the mass grave that we found in Cheorwon had traumatized the soldiers who found it, and that played a major part in the ensuing carnage that was the Battle of Kumchon, where both sides literally fought each other to death, and both sides also slaughtered each other, without mercy. All of the TDRF battalions and the Redemption Brigades from the Philippines and the United States played a role in not only the Kumchon Massacre, but many other massacres that would occur deep into North Korea. However, it was the Filipino artillery strike against the Chinese border city of Dandong that nearly caused World War Three in the first place.
Interviewer: (gasps) How horrifying! That would explain why there were more Filipino officers and soldiers that stood trial in the Hague. The fact that the Tadiar regime has abused its diplomatic isolation status to settle its score with China, I'm starting to understand why President Kemp finally managed to convince the Tadiar regime to send troops to Korea in exchange for assisting them in ending their diplomatic isolation.
Oh: Yes, and at the same time that the coalition forces had reached Pyongyang, the PLAAF sent its bombers to target the new Philippine capital of Kabankalan for an airstrike, in an attempt to kill General Tadiar personally. They took into account the number of anti-aircraft vehicles that were present in the Visayas region, but still took some losses. Meanwhile, the psychological effects of the massacre on the TDRF members that saw the bodies had essentially dehumanized themselves to the point where they actually took pleasure in killing civilians inside North Korea. Even now, the number of ex-TDRF members that are in the psych wards because of the trauma, and almost 17% of the GDP of the reunited Korean peninsula is invested into psychologically healing those traumatized ex-TDRF soldiers.
Interviewer: And the heavy American bombing of North Korea that surpassed the number of bombs dropped in Vietnam during the Vietnam War?
Oh: That was the worst part. (sighs) From what I heard, the American air force did use bunker buster bombs to destroy the North Korean bases, but luckily President Kemp advised the air force to not use napalm, or we'd inflict ecological damage on North Korea. That was the only smart thing that he ever did. If he hadn't, the northern half of the reunited Korean peninsula would become the primary example of environmetal extremist rhetoric. There's a reason why the so-called Zero Growth Militant Front is classified as a terrorist organization by the majority of nations today.

NORTH KOREAN ATTACK ON SEOUL REPULSED BY INCOMING COALITION REINFORCEMENTS, US AND SOUTH KOREAN AIR FORCE LAUNCH MASSIVE AIRSTRIKES AGAINST NORTH KOREAN ARTILLERY UNITS ON OUTSKIRTS OF SEOUL Japan Times March 18, 2003
(Seoul) - The attempt by North Korean forces to advance into the capital of Seoul has been thwarted by incoming South Korean and coalition forces, according to the official spokesperson representing the South Korean armed forces. Fresh reports arriving from the front lines have reached the offices of the South Korean civilian government and various embassies of foreign nations that have temporarily relocated to Daegu have also received those reports as well. It indicated that North Korean forces have suffered over 30% casualty rate in their first attempt to take Seoul alone, and the additional airstrikes launched by the US, South Korean, and other coalition forces have resulted in major losses on the part of the North Koreans. In addition to an undisclosed amount of artillery pieces that were destroyed, over 150 BMP-1s and 300 T-62 battle tanks were also destroyed as well. Conversely, the South Korean and American losses were relatively light, with only 5 K1 tanks destroyed and 12 Sheridan IIs that were recently imported from the United States destroyed as well.
"With the North Korean offensive on Seoul repulsed, in addition to their disastrous defeat in Gangneung, the momentum has now shifted in our favor," says South Korean President Lee Hoi-chang, during a press conference in Daegu. "We now have an opportunity to reunite the Korean peninsula under our control, and to plant our flag on top of Mount Baektu."
Although the North Korean government has remained silent on the recent set of reversals regarding their casualties and materiel losses, their counterpart in the Provisional Government of the DPRK has corroborated the casualty numbers that the South Korean government had claimed. Moreover, increased reports of food shortages inside North Korea had resulted in several failed mutiny attempts by soldiers who were not given any food in days, leading to their execution by North Korean military police officials. However, five soldiers were confirmed to have escaped the border into the territory of the East Slavic Federation, as evident by the frantic escape attempt made by those defectors as they made their way across the Tumen River on a stolen civilian boat, before being ambushed by machine gunfire by North Korean regime loyalist troops. Awaiting the five defectors were the renegade VI Corps that now served the Vladivostok-based Provisional Government of the DPRK.
"We have collaborated with the ESF military and civilian authorities on the processing of the five North Korean soldiers that have defected to the side of the Provisional Government, and we have so far confirmed their identities that have to be kept secret, for security reasons," says Provisional Government leader Kim Pyong-il. "We have so far, managed to stay out of the conflict, mostly because we don't know how the regime in Pyongyang will last, especially with these reverses that they have suffered lately. However, if there is trouble and tension within our homeland, we will be there to restore order."

TROUBLE AT THE UN! AMERICAN AND CHINESE AMBASSADORS TRADE VERBAL SPATS WITH EACH OTHER AS GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING INTERRUPTED BY MASS WALKOUTS OF OTHER DELEGATES New York Times March 21, 2003
(New York) - The emergency meeting in the United Nations has ended in a mass walkout after the American and Chinese ambassadors had degenerated the meeting into a series of shouting matches and a brawl that almost got out of hand. US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton and Chinese Ambassador to the UN Wang Yingfan had gotten into an argument over the Philippines' constant abuse of its diplomatic isolation to carry out military actions against China. Citing the fact that the Philippines never signed the peace treaty that China had imposed on them, along with Vietnam, in the aftermath of the Spratlys conflict, the Tadiar regime has used that technicality to its terrifying advantage, which included the infamous 1998 Shanghai Oriental Pearl and Radio terrorist attack. Moreover, China's threat to carry out a full scale invasion of the Philippines, as was made by Ambassador Wang, had resuled in other shouting matches by the other delegates, before Bolton responded by calling for a recess.
"The rhetoric coming from the Chinese ambassador is unacceptable, even though legally, China and the Philippines are still in a state of war with each other," says Bolton, after the General Assembly meeting ended with the mass walkout of UN delegates who refused to listen to that he and Ambassador Wang had to say. "I hate to admit this, but President Kemp should have stepped in when he started his first term, and told General Tadiar that under no circumstances should the Philippines have engaged in this act of suicidal idiocy. Thanks to the hotheads in the Philippines and in China, we might be seeing the stages being set for World War Three."
Likewise, the Chinese ambassador to the UN has denounced his American counterpart.
"How many of our citizens have died because America chose to ignore what their fascist attack dog has done to us? America has proven to the world that it is willing to fight us to the last Filipino, and the fascist Tadiar regime has made it no secret that they will not stop with just retaking Nansha Islands from us. They want to collaborate with China's enemies in an attempt to not just bring down our nation, but to carry out what they call the Final Solution to the problem of our communist system," says Ambassador Wang furiously. "If America does not rein their attack dog, we will put them down permanently. Even if it means killing those banana sellers to teach them a lesson, we will do it."
Ambassador Wang's threats however, did not sit well with the Tadiar regime in Kabankalan, which had used the ambassador's words to their advantage, creating a mass wave of propaganda as a result.
"The Dragon has shown its true nature by its desire to exterminate the entire Filipino nation, and they are not afraid to show it to the world. Yes, I have confirmed with most of my officers that over 650 of our soldiers were killed during the Chinese aerial attack on Kabankalan, and we will avenge them," says Artemio Tadiar during the session in the Bayanihan. "At the same time, we have retaliated against China by increasing our bombardment of their border towns, and we hope to expand them to include other border towns, as well as the supply routes that they're using to ferry in materiel to North Korea."

Author's Note: It is with a sad heart, that I have to make this unpleasant announcement. Rogue Generals will be officially undergo a massive reboot, due to the current situation at hand. When I first made this TL, it was going to be an examination of what a different fate of the Philippines will be like in an EDSA Uno that has gone wrong. Since then, I have discovered several tidbits of information that might place this TL perilously close to implausible territory, and here as follows: - IOTL, Artemio Tadiar had died in 1999 from a stroke, and given this TL was being set to him standing trial in the Hague by 2016, this scenario would not be realistic, as it is unsure how Tadiar could live that long. - The Second Russian Civil War was something that I had to re-examine and possibly give the biggest reboot, given the current events at hand. I guess giving post-Soviet Russia the boost it needs would be in bad taste for those readers of this TL that come from that area right now, so that part will be heavily re-examined. - The OMAKES will now have to be included in the main updates in the reboot, since those take up more time to make than usual. - Insufficient research was done on areas that I did not know that well, especially Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. - Most importantly, I now have another TL project that I've already started, but have trouble attracting comments from viewers as well. I might turn that into a map project as well.
I'm not sure when the reboot will be launched, but I will probably talk to some of you and ask for help on certain topics that I'm not knowledgeable about. So, consider this update the final chapter for now, until the reboot is launched.

I don't think its impossible that the civil war that ended the USSR in this TL could have led to the result that it did, with a peaceful merging of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus if those three states had all managed to get and maintain democratic leaderships. Especially with the fact that their facing what could be termed 'mad-dog' regimes in China and the USA as well as a threat from Islamic extremism. This is unlikely OTL simply because Putin has poisoned the water so much that even if some revolution quickly removed him from power - which would almost certainly mean the fall of Lukashenko - and both states achieved stable democratic governments its likely that Ukraine - and quite possibly Belarus - would have too much mistrust of Russia for more than distant relations. In fact the proposal your mentioned in private mails could well occur OTL if Putin and Lukashenko's regimes were to collapse suddenly. [Excepting only that a federation with Poland would be unlikely because of its membership of the EU].
There were things I felt somewhat unlikely in your TL but given how things developed the ESF wasn't one of them. However its up to you how you develop it and wishing you the best plus will be glad to give my opinion if you wish it.

True on all accounts, but given that Poland is often screwed in some or most TLs, I thought that I’d give it some well deserved boost, especially if the reboot might realign Russia towards China. Although given how the Chinese government is portrayed in the original version of TL, I might scale it down a bit. The huge problem that posed to me is that I’m not sure if Russia is better off cultivating more relations with Ukraine and Belarus in the reboot, or the Stans, since the latter has obviously more landmass and they were more loyal to the Soviet government. On the other hand, I think that Ukraine and Belarus being integrated more into Europe while Russia looks more eastward might alleviate the negative tensions, but at the same time there’s the demographics portion as well. Another area that I would have handled a lot better would be Yugoslavia as a whole, especially since I selected it as the possible destination for Filipino migrant workers who are employed in the Middle East, and the Western governments are too slow to respond to it at first. There are so many things that I had to address, and more research was needed for Africa and Latin America too.
