Chapter Forty-Two: And Now the Rains Weep O’er the Hall, and Not a Soul to Hear
“I was just a five-year-old boy, living in the town of Gapan, Nueva Ecija, with my relatives who still stayed in the Philippines, when the first Chinese bombs had landed on Luzon, on that fateful day on January 6, 1995. Out of all the days that China chose to attack the main Filipino territory, they had to do it on the day of Epiphany. Many bombs fell on our farmlands, causing them to explode. Divina Pastora College, and the church beside it, the Three Kings Parish Church, had suddenly exploded by the bombs that were dropped beside it. Many of our people cried out in anguish as more Chinese bombers dropped their payload, and at one point, a Chinese fighter plane had strafed at the rescue vehicles attempting to retrieve the wounded, killing them as well. For the next few days, the entirety of Nueva Ecija became the new Sodom and Gomorrah, only we were the ones who would fall in the new Gomorrah. By the time that my grandparents and I came back from Mass, for they were lucky to leave the church early, there were news that a few of my aunts, uncles, and cousins had been injured in the other attack. This time, the city of Manila itself was subjected to the fiercest aerial bombardment for the first time since the end of WWII. Only this time, the Red Dragon paid a visit to our homeland, and they are about to show us what real terror and merciless death is all about. It did not take long until my grandparents joined the numerous amounts of Filipinos killed by the bombing. It went on for months and months, until when the international community pleaded with China to stop the bombing, did they stop, but only for a bit. The Chinese government was not satisfied, until they burned down every farmland, killed every livestock, and slaughtered every potential resistance fighter, and only then, they will try to invade the Philippines. It is a shame that I was too young to fight, or I would gladly take up arms and fight alongside the adults. The next thing I knew, I was placed in a state-run orphanage, where we learned much about our history, from the pre-Hispanic period, to the Spanish and American colonial periods, the Japanese occupation, our independence from the United States, the Marcos years, and now, the Tadiar era. Many of us orphans eventually grew to accept Artemio Tadiar as our National Savior, the man who refused to make peace with China, and to see Nicanor Faeldon as his Anointed Political Heir, who defied the odds and allowed us to join the youth wing of the Fatherland Freedom Party, the Fatherland Youth, or the Faeldon Youth. We learned to sing patriotic songs, including the new anthem, ‘Tindig, Aking Amang Bayan!’(1), and finally understood what the Japanese really wanted to do to all of Asia. Jesse Jackson stabbed us in the back, and it was the communist Chinese who encouraged it. America is dead to us, for there is only Japan to save us from China. Gumawa, bumuo, at magbata, itatag ang bagong Amang Bayan, Lupalop na maguinhawa, kasaganaang sama-sama. Para sa bayan, higit sa lahat.(2)” Excerpts from a former Fatherland Youth member, or the infamously nicknamed ‘Faeldon Youth’/’Tadiar Youth’, a political organization consisting of orphans whose families were killed during the Chinese aerial campaign against the Philippines, 2005.

WESTERN LUZON TARGETED BY CHINESE BOMBS, BANAUE RICE TERRACES SUBJECTED TO INTENSE FIREBOMBING CAMPAIGN AND SURGICAL MISSILE STRIKES Vancouver Sun February 14, 1995
Lingayen, PANGASINAN PROVINCE – The Chinese aerial bombardment of the Philippines continues with the massive bombing campaign against military positions in the western Luzon region. Official Philippine military sources disclose the casualty numbers as high as 35,000 civilians that were confirmed to have died in the bombing raids, just in the province of Pangasinan alone. However, the number of civilians killed in the first six weeks alone laid at 42,000, and most of the dead civilians lived in the cities of Manila, Cebu, and Bacolod. Meanwhile, the People’s Liberation Army Air Force had recently completed a bombing sortie in Scarborough Shoal, as the PLA soldiers fought the embattled Philippine Marines for weeks, until lack of ammunition forced the surviving Marines to surrender, only for the PLA troops to kill them in cold blood. Artemio Tadiar, the current military dictator of the Philippines, was not idle in his tyranny, as he constantly supervised the situation in the front lines, while Lieutenant Colonels Saulito Aromin and Edgardo Doromal supervised the anti-air campaign that resulted in over 9 H-6K heavy bombers shot down.
“Although the Chinese Air Force continues its aerial terrorism against our nation, rest assured that we will not bend the knee before the communist barbarians who are at the gates of Manila,” says Tadiar while broadcasting his speech inside Malacanang Palace. “We refuse to entertain any peace deals with the Chinese government, and we certainly will not negotiate with a race traitor like Ye Fei, who is originally born here, but chose to serve the Chinese communist.”
On the other hand, much of the Chinese public had been placated by their demonstrations of patriotic fervor and a sense of renewed national fervor, considering the recent brutal crackdown on pro-democracy groups operating in China since the infamous Tiananmen Square massacre of 1989. However, the pro-government patriotic rallies are often marred by displays of Han Chinese chauvinism, often referring to Filipinos who are being bombed as ‘pathetic banana sellers’ who will be taught their proper place by their ‘Chinese master’, and that they will ‘liberate the Philippines from the Tadiar fascist clique, and their White colonial masters’. However, the Chinese public did not seem to care that the bombing campaigns launched by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force had all but destroyed the Philippines’ farmlands, or for that matter, the aerial campaign against Vietnam that resulted in the virtual destruction of much of northern Vietnam’s agricultural production. The famous Banaue rice terrace in the northern Philippines, long seen as a popular tourist destination for backpackers, was suddenly engulfed in flames as Chinese bombers had literally wiped-out a nearby farming village adjacent to the Banaue rice terraces.
Filipino and Chinese residents living in foreign countries had been the subject of intense ethnic clashes, with numerous fights breaking out between the two groups. In Vancouver, the clashes between Filipino and Chinese Canadians broke out in the downtown Vancouver areas, as well as parts of Burnaby and New Westminster, with vigilante gangs of both ethnic groups resorting to physical assaults and firebombings of houses owned by their ethnic opponents. In fact, Vancouver Police Department officials have confirmed that 13 individuals connected to the vandalism campaign against Chinese-owned businesses have been charged with arson, vandalism, and one charge of attempted robbery. There were also reports of clashes between Vietnamese Canadians and Chinese Canadians, due to China’s ongoing war against Vietnam as well.

THE BATTLE FOR KUMCHON CONTINUES AS COALITION FORCES CONTINUE THEIR PUSH TOWARDS PYONGYANG, MASSACRES OF PRISONERS OF WAR REPORTED ON BOTH SIDES Los Angeles Times May 11, 2003
Kumchon, Coalition Occupied NORTH KOREA – For the third straight day since the first Coalition Forces soldier stepped foot inside North Korea, Kumchon becomes the latest battleground, as the embattled North Korean army, backed by Chinese volunteers who joined the conflict, are facing a well prepared South Korean army that has been resupplied by its major allies. In the area closest to Kumchon, the Philippine Expeditionary Forces in Korea, led by Colonel Jovito Palparan, had led the assault against the city, which is mainly defended by the Chinese volunteers. However, there is no love lost between the two combatants, which had a recent history of conflict with each other, dating from the Chinese military aggression in the West Philippine Sea conflict involving the Spratly Islands dispute. The revamped Philippine military now fully retrained by both Chilean and South Korean officers and fully rearmed by American, Australian, South Korean, and indirectly perhaps, Japanese defense companies (despite the official ban on Japanese sales of arms and military equipment per Article 9 of the Japanese constitution), had taken the lead in pushing deeper into Kumchon. However, both Chinese military officials and their American counterparts had confirmed their reports of mass executions of Filipino PoWs by the Chinese volunteers, and the retaliatory mass executions of Chinese PoWs by the Philippine military, as well as additional reports that Philippine troops had willfully used chemical weapons that were secretly purchased from Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime.
“We are disturbed by the increased frequency of the Tadiar regime to commit various human rights violations, as well as other kinds of war crimes, in their perceived ideological extermination against the Chinese volunteers who fell under their captivity. This, on top of a continued state of war between China and the Philippines, leaves the door open for additional human rights violations, and even Filipino-backed future terrorist attacks, as we have seen with the backing of the notorious Aum Shinrikyo’s hijacking of China Eastern Air Flight 439 that crashed into the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai, as well as an attempted sarin gas attack in Xiamen, using Taiwanese catspaws as their hired help,” says current US Defense Secretary John Abizaid, while addressing the ongoing ‘war’ between the Tadiar-led Philippine dictatorship and the Chinese state. “Tadiar has constantly used the excuse of the diplomatic irregularity to justify committing wanton acts of destruction and terrorism against a foreign country, and even we cannot ignore this crime on a magnanimous scale.”
Filipinos who are serving in the US military had to be taken off from active combat duty, fearing that their anger at the Chinese would lead to the same kind of war crimes committed against captured Chinese personnel, or even launch an attack on Chinese soil. Their fears were confirmed when a US Air Force pilot named Elmer Mendez, had dropped a bomb containing depleted uranium that was unauthorized for use on the Chinese border town of Dandong from an airfield in South Korea. Ensign Mendez was subsequently arrested and placed in a brig, along with the loaders who placed the illegal weapon on his aircraft, while a military tribunal will be set up to try them for insubordination, unprovoked attack on civilians, disobeying orders, and possibly indict them on violations of the Geneva Convention that bans the usage of chemical weapons as well. Unfortunately, non-Filipino members of the US military had also been reported to have engaged in an unprovoked bombing campaign against Chinese cities, citing China’s involvement in the Second Korean War as justification, most particularly the soldiers with ties to neo-Nazi organizations. Most disturbingly, none of the pilots of the F-117 stealth bombers had cared that bombing parts of China would have led to World War Three.
“President Kemp is ignorant of the dangers of allowing known criminals and extremists to enlist into the US military, on the grounds that they need additional manpower. That is nothing but a lie, and various extremist groups are using our armed forces as a training tool to give military experience to other extremists. If we ignore the neo-Nazis and other white nationalists who are within the ranks of the US military, that will undermine the integrity of the US military itself,” warns former President Jesse Jackson, who came out of political obscurity to criticize the current Kemp administration’s policy of ‘military service for pardons’, which was a controversial move made to speed up the rehabilitation process for convicts seeking an early pardon for their crimes by enlisting in the US military. “This experiment with a penal battalion will not end well.”

Excerpts from “Dragon’s Roar: The Resurgent Middle Kingdom After Mao” By: Ye Fei Zhonghua Book Company (translated into English from Mandarin)
Chapter Seven: Wrath of the Dragon
“How long until we bring those fucking gullible banana sellers to heel?” screamed Zhang Tingfa, though he shouted a bit too loud for my comfort. “Not only that, but we also need to deal with those damned Nanyue as well!”
“Why waste our bombers on that piss poor backwater, when we can just nuke those Huan-as to oblivion!?” screamed Xiao Ke, while pointing his finger at Zhang Tingfa. “We take out the fucking Huan-a fascists first, and them we deal with those Nanyue idiots!”
The commotion inside the war room in Shenzhen had become too loud, and even the Party officials complained about the childish behavior that many of our leaders in the People’s Liberation Army had displayed, and here I thought that this kind of behavior was something that only the Filipino fascist clique had demonstrated. I never forgot Artemio Tadiar’s verbal order for his thugs to massacre our sailors, only after towing the 770 Yangjiang into Philippine waters, and from what I heard with a few Filipino sympathizers who are opposed to Tadiar, they planned to send the 770 Yangjiang to the United States for research purposes.
“We are not getting anywhere by arguing amongst ourselves!” snapped Wang Dongxing, who slammed his fist into the table in frustration. Everyone suddenly quieted down, allowing him to speak once more. “It’s been five months since the bombing began, and only two months since our troops crossed the border into Vietnam. Our military may have been modernized, but we are still dealing with a formidable Vietnamese resistance movement that is capable of dealing defeats to our troops. Perhaps we should let Comrade Ye explain our next move.”
Xiao Ke scoffed back. “Why should we let Comrade Ye plan the invasion of his former homeland? We can just wait until their people overthrow that fascist jackal.”
“It is not easy to overthrow a military dictator like Artemio Tadiar. I should know; I talked to the fool back when I was summoned to mediate in their little civil war,” I replied sarcastically. I grabbed the map of SE Asia and placed a bunch of figures into the map of the Philippines. “The only way we can fully destroy the fascist threat from Manila would be to invade the Philippines, with actual troops. Palawan would be the first one to fall under our control.” I pointed at the spot where Palawan is located. “Next, we use Palawan to launch a two-pronged attack on Manila, and Kabankalan. That is where the bulk of their forces will be located.”
Everyone continued to look at the map, except for Zhang Tingfa, who noticed the other location. “Why not attack in Aparri? We can encircle their troops that are based in this location.” He pointed at the spot where Laoag is located.
“I suspect that the renegade CIA agents might have some tricks up their sleeve. Besides, taking Manila would give us the victory we need, and we could also use Palawan to neutralize Malaysia and Brunei,” I answered in a cautious tone. “Since they are already at war with us, we could launch the rest of our missiles at them.” I turned to Wang Dongxing and wrote down an order. “Give the order to the missile troops to launch 300 of our payloads into Brunei.”
“Will do, Comrade Ye,” Comrade Wang replied curtly, and left the war room.
A few hours later, Comrade Wang came back with several additional guards, who accompanied the Premier himself, Comrade Jiang Zemin. Our beloved Premier had since taken a keen interest in the war that we are involved in, and he was not satisfied enough with the aerial bombardment of Vietnam and the Philippines. A while ago, Comrade Wang told Comrade Jiang about the surgical missile attacks on the Philippines but had also extended the attacks to include parts of Vietnam as well. He also reported that much of our H-6K bombers had began to bomb Malaysia and Brunei, in response to their involvement in the fight to steal much of Nansha from us. Unlike Comrades Zhang and Xiao, Comrade Jiang was composed and calm throughout the war.
“Comrade Jiang, we have just received news from Comrade General Zhang Wannian.” Comrade Wang saluted and handed the Premier a written telegraph. “Our bombers had destroyed much of Brunei’s pathetic military and are on their way to bomb Bandar Seri Begawan.”
Comrade Jiang smiled at the news, and said: “So, Brunei will be the first one to surrender to us then.”
“You're right. The Sultan of Brunei has contacted Comrade Premier Jiang, and has offered to negotiate peace talks.” Comrade Wang hesitated for a moment, before turning his gaze at me, as I simply nodded to let him continue.
I nodded in relief. “That's good news! We are already encountering heavy resistance in Vietnam, and we still do not have enough troops to mount an invasion of Palawan. Perhaps we need to focus more on occupying Vietnam before turning our attention back to the Philippines.”
“Why the Nanyue? Why not take care of the Huan-as first?” Comrade Xiao replied angrily. “As long as we let that fascist jackal survive, he will come back to undermine our national security.”
“Unlike the Huan-as, the Nanyue are much easier to handle. They share a land border with us,” I reminded Comrade Xiao. Suddenly, a junior officer arrived and saluted as he turned to Comrade Jiang, who was conversing with Comrade Wang. “Any news, Comrade Colonel?”
The colonel nodded and said: “Our troops are closer to the Vietnamese capital, Comrade Jiang. However, the Vietnamese government has temporarily relocated to the old capital of Hue, out of range of our ground forces.” He turned to Comrades Wang and Jiang. “What orders should I relay to our troops on the ground, Comrades?”
“Encircle Hanoi first, and then secure the surrounding cities guarding the road to the capital. Surgical strikes will commence.” Comrade Jiang turned to me and Comrade Wang. “Who was the idiot that suggested that we use our nuclear arsenal against the Philippines?”
To our surprise, it was Comrade Xiao who spoke up. “I said it, Comrade Premier. I said that we need to use our nuclear missiles to take out the fascist jackals in Manila.”
“You idiot!” Comrade Jiang slapped Comrade Xiao in the face, on both sides twice. “Do you not understand that we only use our nuclear bombs as a last resort, and only if we are being attacked on our soil?”
“Why not, Comrade Premier? If we can nuke those filthy banana sellers into extinction, then it will be much easier to conquer the Philippines, or at least, put a friendly ally that will serve our interest.” Everyone groaned in frustration at Comrade Xiao’s suggestion. “Besides, that American President has basically hung him out to dry.”
“While that may be the case, Comrade Xiao, if we escalate things a bit too much, then we would lose the sympathies from the international community.” I turned to Comrade Jiang and showed him the map, pointing at the spot where Taiwan is located. “While the world is distracted by the events in Vietnam and the Philippines, the time to reunify Taiwan with the mainland has come.”

HANOI FALLS TO TROOPS OF PEOPLE’S LIBERATION ARMY AFTER A MONTH OF URBAN WARFARE, CAMBODIA TO DECLARE WAR ON VIETNAM AS REVENGE FOR 1979 VIETNAMESE INVASION Taiwan News August 29, 1995
Hanoi, VIETNAM – Just a month and three days after the Vietnamese capital came under siege, and an additional two and a half weeks of urban fighting, the People’s Liberation Army announced the complete capture of Hanoi, as much of the defenders of the Vietnamese capital had surrendered to the PLA troops that now occupy the city. The acting commander of the now-established occupational forces in Vietnam, General Liu Zhenwu, has announced a 24-hour curfew, to ensure that no stragglers would be allowed to survive the Chinese occupation, but that essential supplies will be delivered to the homes of civilians if they collaborate with the occupational authorities. At the same time, the bulk of the Vietnamese military had also retreated from the city, relocating to the temporary seat of the Vietnamese government in Hue. The month and three days of urban warfare inside Hanoi was one of the bloodiest battles in the Sino-Vietnamese conflict, and the first time that the Vietnamese capital had been occupied by a foreign power since the Japanese occupation of Indochina before the Pacific War broke out.
Moreover, the government of Cambodia had announced their declaration of war against Vietnam and mobilized what was left of their military and mounted an invasion of southern Vietnam. The People’s Liberation Army had also started to move supplies, through neutral Laos but with permission of the Laotian government, as the Cambodian government requested for military aid in the form of supplies and equipment. Much of southern Vietnam have now come under Cambodian military occupation, with the Cambodian minority in Vietnam revolting against the Vietnamese regime there, and openly collaborating with the Cambodian Army. Chinese airpower had been crucial in carpet bombing much of the Vietnamese countryside, with Cambodian ground troops providing cover support for the offensive into southern Vietnam.
“The invasion of southern Vietnam has provided us an opportunity to reclaim our lost lands that were taken by Vietnam during the Vietnamese-Cambodian conflicts before the era of French colonialism arrived in the Indochina region,” says Cambodian Prince Norodom Ranariddh from his place of exile in France. “With the help of China, we will not only regain our lost territories, but also reunite with our lost brethren who were forced to endure Vietnamese cruelty.”
The Khmer Rouge, under the leadership of former Cambodian leader Pol Pot, had also joined in the invasion of Vietnam, but their presence alongside the regular Cambodian military had proven to be unpopular with the Vietnamese public. In fact, the Vietnamese military had often executed captured Khmer Rouge militants that came under Vietnamese captivity, causing outrage in Phnom Penh, as calls for the mass extermination of the Vietnamese became louder within Cambodia. Add the Chinese occupation of northern Vietnam to the Cambodian occupation of parts of southern Vietnam, the Vietnamese government is considering an idea of calling for a ceasefire, and to ask for an armistice while they will prepare to sign a formal peace treaty with China and Cambodia.

JAPANESE AMBASSADOR TO PHILIPPINES DECRIES CHINESE BOMBING OF JAPANESE EMBASSY IN MANILA AS 9 EMBASSY STAFF CONFIRMED DEAD IN LATEST ATTACK Philippine Daily Inquirer May 7, 1995
Manila, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION – Amidst the escalating crisis in SE Asia, the Chinese bombing campaign against the Philippines took a dark and tragic turn when several bombs were deliberately dropped on the Japanese Embassy in Manila. Japan’s ambassador to the Philippines, Yoshifumi Matsuda, condemned the bombing campaign, as additional news from the embassy reveals that 9 Embassy staff members, all of whom were Japanese nationals, had been killed in the attack.
“The bombing of foreign embassies in a country that China is at war with is nothing short of a war crime, and a crime against humanity,” says Ambassador Matsuda, in front of news reporters while asking about the bombing incident. “9 of our embassy staff will now travel back to Japan in coffins because of this barbaric attack.”
The Chinese government has so far, brushed off the Japanese ambassador’s criticism of the bombing campaigns, and even called the ambassador out on his perceived ‘hypocrisy’, as the Japanese government also condemned the Chinese attack on its embassy in Manila.
“This is no different than the time Japan was bombing embassies in China. It is basically the chickens coming home to roost,” says Premier Jiang Zemin, while addressing the National People’s Congress session in Beijing over the incident. “The fact that we were able to kill 9 eastern devils in our war against the banana sellers is also an added bonus, and a payback for the suffering that Japan had imposed on China during our war with the Japanese.”
Nationalist rallies in Manila and Tokyo, hosted by both Filipino and Japanese nationalists, respectively, had arisen because of the bombing incident. In Tokyo, calls for the repealing of Article 9 of the Japanese constitution had been repeated daily, as numerous members of the Japan Self-Defense Force threatened to take matters into their own hands if the Japanese government does not respond to the Chinese attack on their embassy in the Philippines.
“The danger of Chinese communist revanchism is all too clear to us. If we allow the Chinese to get away with this kind of savagery, how long until the People’s Liberation Army marches into Tokyo and exterminate us all? This is exactly why we must repeal Article 9 of the American-imposed constitution, so that we may have a normal military once more. Chinese communism is the greatest danger to the security of Asia, and for that, we need to revive our nation once more!” Japanese ultranationalist figure Hideaki Kase said in front of his supporters. “The time has come for Japan to rebuild its empire once more! No more kowtowing before the Chinese!”
Much of the Japanese public had been clad in white clothing, to commemorate the 9 embassy staff members that were recently killed in the bombing, while other ultranationalists began to attack Chinese residents within Japan, though sparing the Filipino residents there as they see them as victims of Chinese brutality, which is ironic, given Japan’s historic xenophobia. However, Filipino residents in Japan had also collaborated with the local Japanese community in finding the Chinese residents there and took part in anti-Chinese pogroms throughout Japan. In the aftermath of the Chinese bombing of the Japanese Embassy in Manila, a leader of an obscure cult named Shoko Asahara, had announced that his group will be the first ones to volunteer in the humanitarian mission in the Philippines, with permission of the Japanese government.
“We are moved by the suffering of the Filipino people, and we wish to extend a helping hand to our national allies who are affected by Chinese barbarism,” says Shoko Asahara, founder of the group Aum Shinrikyo. “I also call upon other humanitarians to give their assistance to those poor Filipinos and Vietnamese who are now facing starvation from the relentless Chinese bombing of arable farmlands in their respective nations.”
In what would become the most controversial move made by Aum Shinrikyo, Shoko Asahara also announced that he will enter talks with the founder of the Unification Church based in South Korea, Sun Myung Moon, on a collaboration scheme between the two groups to formalize the humanitarian mission in the Philippines and Vietnam.
“The financial backing of the Tongil Foundation is necessary for our humanitarian project to be viable in this case, and we hope that the ideological and humanitarian collaboration between our group and the Unification Church will bear fruit,” Asahara also said while asking about a future meeting with Reverend Moon. “In any case, some of our members have friends who are a part of the Unification Church in Japan.”

Excerpts from “When Civilizations Collide: America in the Era of Rogue Generals” By: Paul Manafort Simon and Schuster, published 2019
Chapter Four: A Sacrificial Lamb
“Can you please tell us what is happening in Vietnam right now?” I asked one of the CIA guys who was briefing President Jackson on the current Chinese military aggression in the West Philippine Sea, or whatever sea the Chinese government is saying because I do not want to endorse any more of China’s aggression in SE Asia. “Aside from the bombing, and the fact that Hanoi is under Chinese occupation.”
We were caught off guard when the news of Hanoi’s fall to Chinese troops was announced in front of the entire world. Many Vietnamese Americans started holding rallies in front of the Chinese Embassies and Consulates throughout the United States, but these rallies are often met by Chinese Americans who stood by their home country as they bombed Vietnam and the Philippines to smithereens. Even the Filipino American community have started to rally against China’s military aggression, even if that meant putting up with Artemio Tadiar in the short term. However, the pro-LaRouche types who held rallies of their own had condemned China’s aggression as nothing short of a ‘behavior ill-befitting a proper socialist state’, and even the various local leftists had started to voice their concern about what the PLAAF is doing. As for President Jackson, he had no response so far as to what we need to do to counter Chinese aggression. Secretary of State Kerrey suggested economic sanctions on the same level as the ones imposed on the Tadiar regime, but Vice President Brown shot down the idea, pointing out that China has a veto power, but I countered his point by saying that the veto power only applies to Security Council related decisions.
“Much of Vietnam’s agricultural production fell by 43%, while their industrial output fell by 48%. The Doi Moi reforms had pretty much been grinded to a halt by the Chinese bombing,” General Joulwan reported. “The Vietnamese military has been degraded by the amount of materiel lost to China’s offensives, but their paramilitary units have sprung up and carried out guerrilla warfare. I think that China will be caught in a quagmire in Vietnam this time around.”
I shook my head in disagreement. “The Cambodians have invaded southern Vietnam in response to the fall of Hanoi. Much of our assets in SE Asia are almost gone, except for a single American submarine that is on a recon mission. I cannot disclose what their mission is, but I can say that the sub has kept in contact with ‘Mistress’ and ‘Racoon’.”
“You mean to tell me that you have CIA agents within the Philippines? Have you lost your mind, Mr. Manafort?” President Jackson snapped angrily. No one was prepared to deal with an angry President, for he rarely loses his temper. “Who was the genius that decided to send them there?”
“No one, Mr. President. What I do know is that thanks to ‘Mistress’ and ‘Racoon’, we now know the full scope of what China’s real end game here,” I replied.
“What is the end game for China, if you do not mind me asking, Mr. Manafort?” General Joulwan asked back.
I sighed. “Has everyone here paid attention to what Ye Fei’s ambition here is?” No one nodded. “While China wants to secure those disputed islands to make sure that their sea lanes are safe for maritime trade, they are also trying to carve out their own spheres of influence in SE Asia. Like what the Soviets did in Eastern Europe, I believe that China’s real end game here is to not only rise as a superpower, but to recreate the failed project of the Co-Prosperity Sphere in Asia, only it will be China at the center, and SE Asia, Central Asia, and Mongolia will become its tributary states. This is no ordinary Chinese irredentism. They also have an eye on the Russian Far East, and even Siberia as well, for if they can acquire the Russian Far East, then the rest of Siberia will be useless to Russia, and therefore, they will be forced to either give independence to Siberia or sell the lands east of the Yenisei to China.”
“That would not be a bad thing, would it? I mean, if Russia ditches Siberia, then they can easily be more integrated into Europe, and Siberia can develop by itself as a prosperous nation that will integrate more with Asia,” President Jackson replied back, but I shook my head.
“The last thing the United States wants is to stare at Chinese troops across from Alaska. The last thing we need is to deal with a revanchist Russia and a more aggressive China. This is certainly not in our best interest to allow China’s so-called peaceful rise. We need to contain China, as we did with the Soviet Union,” I said hotly.
President Jackson growled back. “That kind of thinking is exactly why the world was nervous about being closer to nuclear Armageddon. Containing China is an easy solution, but I do not want to be the President who prolongs the Cold War. I recall someone saying that we need to have a peaceful co-existence with our ideological enemies, and I fully intend to follow up on that advice.”
Just then, the door knocked loudly. Everyone paused for a moment as Madam Albright entered the room, followed by a light-colored haired man who was carrying a suitcase. President Jackson beckoned for the youngsters who sat down to give their seats to the new arrivals. I turned to see the newcomer and tried my best to hide my scowl. I did not expect to see George Soros join Madam Albright in this meeting, but whatever it is, I am not comfortable with what they are up to.
“Madam Albright. Mr. Soros.” President Jackson shook their hands.
“Mr. President, I could not help but overhear Mr. Manafort’s outburst before I entered the room,” George Soros told the President. “Madeleine and I were talking about how we can try to create a policy for dealing with China. As I told her earlier, this is the right time to integrate China into a new order.”
“A new order?” I asked skeptically. “I do not recall hearing former President Dole saying something about a big idea, which is a new world order, where diverse nations will follow the rule of law, rather than the rule of the jungle.”
George was unmoved by my outburst though. “That is because President Dole had to deal with a lot of domestic issues at hand, but now that we have an administration that is hopelessly naïve, they will need a lot of help with foreign policy. I seem to understand that Madeleine has tutored the two of you with foreign policy?” His gaze turned towards President Jackson and Vice President Brown.
“She has been a helpful asset to us, but our main concern is that of China, and its aggression in the West Philippine sea,” Vice President Brown replied in a calm tone.
“And I suppose my activities would have attracted unwanted attention from both the Tadiar regime, and our renegade smugglers who reside there.” Soros shook his head in frustration. He turned to President Jackson and stared hard at him. “Mr. President, what will you do if the Philippines asks this government to uphold the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty that the United States have with them?”
Everyone looked at the President with a hard gaze. Honestly, this was the first real test for President Jackson around foreign policy, but his approach to this remains in the mindset of a Christian priest on a missionary work. While we truly respect his reputation as a humble preacher, geopolitics sometimes require a person to sacrifice one’s own moral compass to serve the greater good of the nation, even if the morally questionable action comes back to haunt us. What happened next, stunned us all.
“If I were to talk to Artemio Tadiar right now, I would say this,” President Jackson said as he stood up. “He is on his own. The 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty will not be activated. The Philippines under Tadiar can be hung, and this will be an object lesson for Mr. Tadiar. I would advise him to come to an agreement with China, and to ask the Chinese government what they want. I would also tell him to relinquish any claims on any part of the Spratlys, for the good of SE Asia. The United States will not always be there to clean up the mess made by the Philippines. Good day.”

“President Jackson’s disgraceful treatment of the Philippines has forced the Tadiar regime to turn towards Japan for its salvation, and what did we see in Manila after the bombing was done? We saw a country that resembled its post-WWII self from 1945 onwards, only we also heard that over 500,000 Filipinos died from starvation, because of China’s reckless bombing of Philippine agricultural production facilities. In addition, 650,000 Vietnamese civilians also died from the same kind of reckless bombing that the Philippines endured. How long until President Jackson tells us that he is going to appease the Chinese government? He has become our Chamberlain when we need a Churchill figure to stand up to China. What did the Philippines end up with, after the bombing was finished? The Tadiar regime was the only one that did not sign a peace treaty with China. All the other claimant nations were forced to relinquish their claims to the Spratly Islands to China, under threat of nuclear blackmail, but the Philippines saw through their bluff. On top of that, the Chinese bombing had also revealed the deaths of a few American workers who stayed in the Philippines for humanitarian reasons, and the deaths of the embassy workers due to the damage that the Japanese Embassy sustained from such barbarity. Finally, we had just learned that President Jackson was unlawfully soliciting the Chinese and Cambodian governments into blackmailing Vietnam into the disgraceful ‘land for peace’ with the cession of the Khmer-populated areas of Vietnam to Cambodia, and Vietnam’s claims on part of the Spratly Islands to China, as well as allowing Chinese troops to occupy northern Vietnam, until a pro-Chinese puppet government would be placed in Hanoi. In short, President Jackson has used the Office of the President of the United States to play the part of a religious mediator, to reach an accommodation with China. Therefore, I file a motion for Articles of Impeachment against President Jackson, on charges of abuse of power.” James Traficant, on the announcement of his filing of Articles of Impeachment against President Jackson for his role in forcing Vietnam to cede the Khmer-populated areas of southern Vietnam to Cambodia, as well as coercing the Vietnamese government to temporarily allow Chinese troops to occupy northern Vietnam.

“We supported President Jackson in his quest to stop Bob Dole from aiding Artemio Tadiar, but all we received in return is a stab in the back! While we can understand the need to get rid of Tadiar, Jesse Jackson allowed the Chinese to bomb our homeland, and reduce it to a state worse than rubble! I am disgusted with the Democrats, who proved to be just as two-faced as the Republicans. I do not like the whole left-wing diatribe that Lyndon LaRouche is promoting, regarding Sino-Philippine relations. One may call me a sellout, or a traitor, but I will join James Traficant’s National Revival Party as a member, to see what I can do.” Miss Hawaii 2000 winner and US House of Representative for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District, Angela Perez Baraquio, known for her anti-Tadiar activism in Hawaii and her confrontation with Marcos loyalists during an anti-Tadiar rally in Honolulu.
--- (1) Tindig, Aking Amang Bayan is TTL's third official anthem of the Philippines, replacing "Lupang Hinirang". Keep in mind that this modified version of the original second anthem, "Tindig, Aking Inang Bayan" or "Awit sa Paglikha ng Bagong Pilipinas" was the official anthem of the short lived Second Philippine Republic, which was a Japanese puppet state set up during WWII. Jose P. Laurel was its only President.
(2) "Gumawa, bumuo, at magbata, itatag ang bagong Amang Bayan, Lupalop na maguinhawa, kasaganaang sama-sama." - The last verses of 'Tindig, Aking Amang Bayan', which translates to "Make, form, and endure, establish the new Fatherland, continent of wealth, prospering together".

1) Your parents would have been evacuated from Cebu, and into the countryside like Bantayan. Alternatively, if they were Cory supporters, they would have already filed for political asylum in the US Embassy. ITTL, my parents were already working overseas, so they might have a tougher time trying to apply for an asylum in the Canadian or Australian Embassy. 2) True, but let us not forget that Brunei is also another claimant for the Spratly Islands. This is Ye Fei we’re talking about. It’s basically zero sum game to him, and China can make up for the loss of the Bruneian oil fields with oil coming from Kazakhstan. 3) I would think that the US Embassy was evacuated too, but I think that the Russian Embassy in Manila would have been targeted as well, and with vengeance as well. This might bring Russia and the ECA/alt-EU closer together, or bring Russia and the US together. 4) The OTL 1979 Chinese invasion of Vietnam did force the Vietnamese to partially withdraw from Cambodia, but in the case of TTL’s 1995 Chinese Invasion of Vietnam, the Chinese learned the lessons of air power from the Soviets in Afghanistan, and would apply it to their lethal effect. Cambodia is just a distraction for Vietnam, as China will do more of the fighting. What no one here know is that Vietnam had an insurgency after 1975, with FULRO being the most prominent of them, as they consisted of Montagnards, Chams, and Vietnamese Cambodians seeking reunification with Cambodia. The Russians would definitely be furious about their embassy being a collateral damage to the recklessness of the PLAAF. Any Chinese incursion into Central Asia would be viewed as a hostile act. With the Chinese having reached Hanoi this time, how bloody is their campaign in Vietnam? I'm sure the Vietnamese a have a shit ton of arms leftover from WWII, First Indochina War, and the Vietnam War lying around. Vietnam's air defenses is also one of the best in SE Asia. Consider that B-52s were shot down by Vietnamese SAMs. The H-6Ks would have fallen victim to those SAMs too. Even with Hanoi under occupation, I could see the Vietnamese turn it into a Stalingrad, Grozy, or Marawi. There would be a lot of IEDs and booby traps everywhere. They would definitely do a scorched earth tactic. For every ground the PLA gains, they would lose a 100 or so. I'm sure the Russians would have warned China not to attack the naval base at Cam Ranh Bay. Meanwhile since Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot decided to join the fun but won't get any far, what would become of Pol Pot here? I would love it if the Vietnamese captured him and sent him over the ICJ in The Hague just like what happened to Tadiar. EDIT: So it appears that World Youth Day 1995 is held elsewhere because the Vatican would not hold it in Tadiar's Philippines. So that means Pope John Paul II's second visit to the Philippines is butterflied away. Keep in mind the terrorists of the Bojinka plot planned to assassinate the Pope on his visit IOTL. It was already seen as a hostile act by the Russian Provisional Government, thought the Chinese intervention was at the request of the internationally recognized Soviet government, which was basically what the loyalists were. Since Cam Ranh Bay was not yet decommissioned, that could be one saving grace for Vietnam, though I suspect that China would have consumed a lot of their resources at a rapid pace, both from the increasingly dangerous Vietnamese resistance, to the dangerous massacre that is the bombing of the Philippines. I might have to a retcon in one of the previous updates to replace an improved Sino-Vietnamese relations to an openly hostile Vietnamese government, though I wanted to set up a chance where Vietnam would have a civil war, similar to Russia/Soviet Union ITTL, though it would be one where Tadiar would be all too eager to join in. Remember the Green Shirts debacle? The retcon might have something different because of that. If Pol Pot was captured by the Vietnamese, they wouldn't bother sending him to the Hague. More likely, they would torture him before killing him. We will touch base with what is happening in the Vatican, but let us say that relations between the Tadiar regime and the Vatican are.......terrible. There is a reason why TTL's 2016 marked the first time that the Vatican and the Philippines restored their diplomatic ties.
Would Cambodia, the government, rather than the Khmer Rouge fringe, actually be that willing to attack Vietnam, especially in alliance with China of all nations? The Vietnamese invasion, which was due to KR attacks largely liberated what was left of Cambodia from those maniacs and China was the nations that backed the KR despite their slaughter of so much of the population. I would suspect that Cambodia would quietly be cheering on Vietnam in the hope they keep the Chinese at bay.
Also share gillan1220 , concern about an attack on Brunei and Malaysia. Neither of them are extremist nations like the Philippines under Tadiar so would be likely to receive support, both from other Muslim nations and from anyone concerned about the raving lunatics in Beijing. I could just about see China getting away with brutal attacks on the Philippines because of Tadiar and Vietnam as a communist state but the excesses are likely to upset a lot of people as well as them widening the war further.
Steve
China was a major backer of the Khmer Rogue during the OTL Cold War, so I would not be surprised if they would do so here. The FULRO insurgency against Vietnam was over IOTL 1992, though with China launching another invasion of Vietnam, and Cambodia eager to retake the territories in Vietnam that had Khmer minorities that are populated there, Vietnam would be in for a two front war, but the Vietnamese could easily turn their country into a nightmare for both China and Cambodia. Vietnam is a Soviet-aligned communist state, directly opposed to China. There is a reason why Brunei and Malaysia are also dragged into the war with China, and that is also because they have claims on the Spratly Islands as well. What I could do, is to do a retcon, where instead of China bombing Malaysia and Brunei, it purchases the Malaysian and Bruneian claims on the Spratly Islands, which in itself would be even more dangerous for Vietnam and the Tadiar regime, as China can use those islands to mount an invasion of Mindanao, Visayas and Palawan. Another thing that we will also encounter here is a different crisis involving Taiwan, something that even Jesse Jackson would be forced to pay attention. Keep in mind that there would be a lot more Sinophobia ITTL, possibly worse than OTL Russophobia, post-Maidan. And we will also see the other embassies that were bombed during this time period, though it might be ironic of one of those embassies that China bombed was their own embassy, though they might have the common sense to not accidentally bomb their own embassy. The US Embassy in Manila might be one, the Russian Embassy would be another. However, the Russian Embassy is closer to the Chinese Embassy in Makati City in this case. Location of the Australian Embassy in Makati City, and its distance from the Chinese Embassy in Makati. Location of the US Embassy along Roxas Blvd., and the distance from there to the Japanese Embassy only 13 minutes away from the US Embassy. Location of the Russian Embassy in Makati City, again the distance from there to the Chinese Embassy.
