The Laughing Plague - A "Crossed" TL

Think the riots soon will end, other riots will begin not related to current riots.

an interesting point that Kspence may not have seen: in March April 2020, there was a shortage of gloves and masks because of Covid19, such a lack of means of protection would have big repercussions on a viral agent capable of spread only through blood and body fluids. In addition, what would be the states' policy towards Covid? knowing that the latter would make the impression of a nasty flu in appearance of the Crossed Virus.

London was a warzone. Nobody knew how many had died but the number was racking up by the second. Much of Central London was a bloodbath and there were flare ups of violence across various parts of both North and South London. Despite pleas from the government to remain at home behind locked doors, Londers were fleeing by the thousands. Or trying to at any rate, but with all the airport's and train stations closed and abandoned, the only way out of the city was by car or on foot.

Priti Patel was now the third female Prime Minister in British history. And oh how history would remember her. She had been hurriedly airlifted out of London by the SAS six hours earlier along with the rest of the cabinet and their immediate families. They had relocated to a Top Secret bunker on the outskirts of Oxford where they were attempting to coordinate the various departments of government. The near total loss of the Civil Service in London made coordinating the various government departments a logistical nightmare. The outbreaks across Whitehall had seen virtually every government building ransacked with the exception of 10 Downing Street, which was now under siege by thousands of Crossed and close to being overrun. All VIPs had since been evacuated from Downing Street through tunnels beneath the building. Only determined police officers had remained behind to hold the area.


"How is he?" She asked as she read the morning paper with a headline that screamed "LONDON HAS FALLEN".

"He's still in an induced coma, but stable for now. Bloody idiot." The aide replied .

"That's good to hear. Boris might be a bit daft at times but he didn't deserve this." The new Prime Minister replied. "Is the video link ready ?"

"Yes ma'am."

On the screen the heads of the armed forces appeared. They were still in London, secure in the bunker under the Ministry of Defence building.

"Good morning ma'am. I hope you had a good sleep?" The Chief of the General Staff tried to make small talk.

"Half an hour if you're lucky. I'm running on coffee right now. Right, so where are we at with pushing this bloody mess back?" Priti asked as she pushed her newspaper to the side.

"Well we're not pushing anything back just yet ma'am. The Army , or at least our units in and around London are in disarray. The police are in even worse shape. I don't even want to think about how many are dead. We're still holding on to our safe zones in Tower Hamlets, Enfield and Wimbledon as well as Downing Street itself but other than that almost all of London is going through the meat grinder. We lost Buckingham Palace this morning. They held off the first two waves but when one of our own units went over and turned their guns on them it was all over. Thank God we got the Queen out when we did."

"How many Crossed are we facing in London, and more importantly how many are heading north?" Priti Patel asked.

"We're estimating over half a million crossed are in the Greater London area now. The number just swelled and swelled throughout the night last night. Probably more than two million uninfected dead or dying. Satellites show crowds attempting to move up the M11 towards Cambridge. We have troops from Colchester already manning blockades a few miles south of the outskirts of Cambridge. They're screening refugees from London for the infection." The General replied.

"Turn them around." Priti said urgently. "Do not let the refugees through. Send them back to their homes."

"Ma'am?" The general asked incredulously.

"We cannot take the risk that some of them may be the clever type. That's how we lost London. That's how Boris lost London. I won't let that happen to Cambridge or any other city in our country. Anyone leaving London is a potential threat. Turn them back and if they refuse then open fire. I will accept all consequences as solely my own." She said before taking a breath and lowering her head as though not wanting to ask her next question "Now, what is the status of our chemical weapons?"

Priti is being smart here. Chemical weapons would be more effective in killing the Crossed than bullets.

Great to read you again, at this point I guess France and USA should have the finger on the nuclear trigger.

Washington, D.C. and Arlington, VA in this timeline. It would be a matter of time before it starts spreading to the rest of the DMV.


In the previous Crossed timeline written by the author, the Crossed outbreak began in Massachusetts and then spread to New England and New York. So the U.S. Armed Forces had to use nukes, MOABs, sarin gas, and biological weapons just to get rid of it. The region became known as the New England Wasteland.

kspence92's previous Crossed timeline also has the monsters storming the Capitol and the White House. In 2017 and early 2020, this seemed to far-fetched. Come January 6, 2021, both stories have become harsher in hindsight.
