It would need to be so private that no one who gets infected knew about it, which would be unlikely I suspect if most of Russia got infected. Plus how long would a luxury villa last before either some infected ran across it or it simply run out of supplies.

Also there is not much need of a coup if there is no United States anymore. |

In the Crossed comics, it's heavily implied the British were on the way to containing their outbreak with the situation in hand until Gordon Brown was randomly killed by a sudden outbreak within his compound that was purely by accident. With regards to the U.S. it's implied to have been the same, with Bush getting killed early on and Emergency Resources being activated too late to deal with the crisis. Even then, it's shown that more than a few military bases survived and Governmental authority lasted long enough to ensure the Crossed wouldn't gain access to WMDs.

To say the United Kingdom was in turmoil would have been the understatement of the century. COVID had wreacked havoc upon British society (and oh how historians would try and unravel the toilet paper hoarding) and had become arguably the most widespread geopolitical event since the Second World War.
Then the Crossed came and made all that look like a picnic.
London was a warzone. The Crossed had infiltrated right into the heart of the city and unleaded hell upon its residents. Central London's street ran with blood as the Metropolitan Police fought running battles with their deranged enemy as they screamed for backup into their radios. Police officers equipped with helmets and riot shields held the line and gave as much time as possible for civilians to flee their homes. It wasn't much, but it was something.
The Royal Guards outside Buckingham Palace managed to successfully fight off the first wave of crossed that unloaded from a lorry in front of the gates, but the attacks in other parts of the city had proven more effective. Heathrow Airport had been overrun and two 737 jets piloted by crossed pilots had happily plunged their aircraft into the centre of London with a smile. The one aimed for Parliament had barely missed as the wing sheared off the west facing clock of Elizabeth Tower - known widely as Big Ben - before careening out of control into St Thomas' Hospital just across the Thames annihilating the building and most of the staff and patient's inside. The second aircraft rammed itself directly into the One Canada Square building Canary Wharf - the UK's second tallest building - causing the top half to topple over and crush buildings and people below.
The Prime Minister was awoken suddenly from his nap on a couch in his office not by a phone call but by two bodyguards rushing in and manhandling him downstairs to a tunnel which led to the PINDAR nuclear bunker underneath the nearby Ministry of Defence HQ.
As he arrived in the bunker with bloodshot eyes wearing just a dressing gown and slippers he managed to finally get out some words.
"What the bloody hell is it now?"
"Sorry Prime Minister. We've had two airborne attacks. 9/11 style. One was aimed for Parliament and missed striking St Thomas's, the other went into Canary Wharf. The RAF didn't have time to intercept." The security officer added.
"I uhh..i ...i see. Right, ok. Can i erm...can i have a coffee or something?". Johnson managed to get out as he struggled to form a sentence.
"Sure thing sir. Other senior staff are on their way now." He said as he handed the PM a coffee with a dash of whisky.
"We dont have much intel but we do believe this is not terrorists but the crossed." MI5 Director Andrew Parker said as he entered the bunker, hastily putting on his suit jacket. "We're seeing a number of incidents across London as well as the western outskirts. Heathrow went dark about an hour ago and then we had the two suicide attacks from the air. On top of that a number of crossed had appeared in London including an incident outside Buckingham Palace which im informed the army put down before it could get out of hand, so that's the good news."
"And the bad?" Johnson rubbed his head.
"Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus are overrun. We don't know how but they snuck in on us. Multiple parts of London hit simultaneously. They're far more devious than we gave them credit for. We believe that bloody chief constable is the brain's behind it." The MI5 Director concluded.
"Are we dealing with it?" Johnson demanded to know.
"All available police and army units are committed but its so widespread that once one area is dealt with its popping up in another. We have outbreaks on both sides of the Thames and its spreading like wildfire. I've been informed that 999 call centres are inundated with calls and can't cope. I think we may need to think about our options." The Director said with a disheartened sigh.
"Options for what?" Johnson demanded to know in an irritated tone.
"Options for leaving London." Another voice chimed in as he arrived in the bunker. General Smith, head of the British Army was on the scene.
"I'm sorry, what?" The PM asked bemused.
"Sir, we need to start moving senior officials away from London, starting with yourself." The General leaded across the table.
Boris went ashen faced.
How had it come to this?

"Fuck this." He muttered as he leaned forward in his chair and rested his head on the desk in his private office.
He took his phone out his pocket and wiped away a stray tear as he called Home Secretary Priti Patel.
"Yes, Prime Minister what is it ?" She said in a tone of annoyance. She was busy.
"Up to you now. Up to you Priti. I ballsed it up." He mumbled down the line, his slurred , drunken speech barely coherent.
"Boris you need to get your head in the game. You're the Prime Minister and ..."
"No, I think you can have that job now. Or whoever else wants it. I don't care. I've fucked it all up. So many dead. I'll see to what I have to see to. Good luck Priti. Give them hell." Johnson stifled a sob as he hung up the phone and poured another glass of wine. He reached into the drawer for the sleeping tablets.

Nasty, Basically London is lost as by now is probably most of the country sooner or later and probably sooner.
Not too surprised that Boris broke under the pressure. Going to cause further confusion with him resigning in such a way as Priti might have problems getting other people to accept she's in charge.
Cambridge doesn't border London so while they would probably seek to send escapees northwards they have to pass through Hertfordshire or Essex 1st and 1st calls for support would probably go out to police and military in those regions. Although by now I would hope that everybody in any position of power/influence would accept that this is an 'all hands on the pump' national emergency.
I hope those police directing people northwards are doing some checking as it should be understood by now hopefully that some of the infected can be very cunning else their just helping spread the infection.

This timeline is definitely darker than his previous Crossed timeline set two weeks after the 2008 U.S. Presidential elections. In that timeline, at least George W. Bush and Gordon Brown survive while in this timeline, it's only been a few chapters then both Donald Trump and Boris Johnson are already dead. For the UK, probably best to relocate to Newcastle or Edinburgh for the government and the royal family. |

For the UK, probably best to relocate to Newcastle or Edinburgh for the government and the royal family. If i remember in the comics even the royal family became crossed. But for this fanfic timeline, I wonder what becomes of them. Prince Harry and Megan Markle are in the U.S. though. |

The death of George Floyd and the riots that followed are butterflied in this timeline but an even chaotic evacuations and panic would have occurred that would have made the civil unrest last May-June look small in comparison.

The death of George Floyd and the riots that followed are butterflied in this timeline but an even chaotic evacuations and panic would have occurred that would have made the civil unrest last May-June look small in comparison. , i made a exception to this TL by not placing it in Politics and Current Affairs as i believe that the TL would diverge from current politics and events as it goes ahead, but if current politics and events are mentioned i have not much choice to place it in Politics and Current Affairs. So can we do out best not to place current politics and events into this TL as i would not want to see this TL moved. |
