I wonder what’d happen if Dr. Aphra and her crew landed on late 1970s to early 1980s Earth—precisely when the Original Trilogy was the Star Wars that everyone knew and for the most part loved. Considering that she’s a) from the same universe they’re into and b) is a space-faring archeologist who worked under Darth Vader of all people, many a sci-fi enthusiast would no doubt take interest in her. As would, of course, law enforcement and maybe even the highest levels of government if they ever managed to find her. If I am not wrong I saw a comic series about here that is currently ongoing. That’s right. Unfortunately, I’m nowhere near caught up on the latest issue of the series. Perhaps someone with more up-to-date knowledge than myself could fill in any blanks that exist here? Those would be relevant to how Aphra fairs on a late 20th Century Earth which is a) comparatively backwards and b) knows of her universe almost exclusively from a cult-classic movie trilogy created by George Lucas.

Yeah, making the Original Trilogy non-canon would likely go too far for Star Wars fans across the board. Still, I do wonder what remakes of the movies would look like heading further into the 21st Century.

Here is Star Wars - Anime Opening 4 (Prequel Trilogy Arc) Looks...pretty interesting, for lack of other terms that come to mind. Too bad that I understood none of the Japanese lyrics or occasional writing in there.

You do not need to understand the lyrics or occasional writing, i do not understand either, but i think if a Star Wars cartoon was made in Japan, this is how it would look like.

I'm surprised that I haven't posted this one yet (which happens to be another TCW AMV).

I'm surprised that I haven't posted this one yet (which happens to be another TCW AMV). Clone Wars - Clone Troopers 10th man downNice find. Thank you. As I've said before, most of the AMVs that I've come across tend to be "meh", but a few--such as this one--actually turn out to be more than halfway decent. For another question about the setting of Star Wars, I believe that OTL Clone Wars was basically analogous to the American Civil War—with the Republic standing in for the Union North, and the Separatists for the Confederate South? {Why I Ask} My underlying motive for bringing this up is that—whether this is the case or not—I’m thinking about tweaking the causes and factions of TTL’s Clone Wars quite a bit for my ‘A Galaxy Divergent’ TL. The Republic and Separatists would still serve as the two main factions doing most of the fighting, but they’d probably be a bit different in that they represent two irreconcilable ways of running the Galaxy.
Majorly concentrated in the densely populated, historically powerful Core Worlds, Colonies and Inner Rim—with a Mid Rim that’s being fought over with the Separatists—the Galactic Republic would represent a liberal, cosmopolitan civilization whose most prominent worlds (i.e. Coruscant and the like) have a hold over galactic media, pop culture, technology hubs, and economic importance that has been slipping within the last few centuries as other regions of the Galaxy have been catching up to them. As such, core-ward denizens would be characterized as an elitist, ivory-tower bunch with a centralized government that endlessly taxes, regulates, and underserves the rest of galactic society, which feels that its economic parity and say in galactic politics is being sabotaged by a Senate and Supreme Chancellor in bed with neoliberal crony capitalism and detached elites who sneer at the supposed “bumpkins” and “backwards way of life” that characterizes the greater Galaxy.
On the other hand, the Separatists—formally known as the Union of Confederate Systems (or UCS) ITTL—would have holdings in a divided Mid-Rim, but an iron grip on the Expansion Region, Outer Rim and Wild Space, as well as efforts to expand their territories and support in the Unknown Regions. Because of this, they’d control most of the Galaxy in terms of sheer territory (I’ll have to devise some way of ensuring that their resource base stacks up against the Republic’s own due to star-system density and whatnot), with an equally vast population marked by rugged individualism and Wild West-style libertarianism. Though historically behind the galactic center in terms of cultural, political and economic significance, Separatist areas will have nonetheless become exceedingly wealthy, developed and highly competitive during recent centuries due to laissez-faire economics and a business-friendly political climate. This stands in stark contrast to the corporate cronyism of the Republican Core, which by now has an obvious tendency to tax and regulate those outside of its purview in order to maintain its long-time advantages. Predictably, the Separatists have become sick and tired of Coruscant’s corrupt meddling to the point where they form a government of their own and secede, bringing their unending, privately owned droid armies and star fleets to bear in the resulting war.
To offer an oversimplified analogy, basically imagine a second civil war between America’s Democratic States (the Galactic Republic) and its Republican ones (the UCS), and that very roughly approximates the clashing political philosophies and territorial extents of the big two factions in TTL’s Clone Wars. If anyone has thoughts on my idea that they want to share, I’d like to read them.

Lucas actually modeled the Empire off of Nazi Germany for the Original Trilogy. The resemblance is, of course, easy to pick up upon it being pointed out.
