Geek Rant | Mace vs Sidious - Who Was In Control?I say Sidious was in control, he managed to manipulate everybody both in public and in secret. That might be fair, although mass manipulation at a distance with the Jedi unable to sense his dark nature seems far different than controlling the fight in the midst of a life-or-death confrontation with them. Then again, as Antoine Bandele points out in the video, Palpatine did point his saber right at Windu's heart and could've potentially plunged the blade through, though I bet that he didn't since the sight of the latter dead would've made him look pretty damned guilty in front of Anakin, who's already shaken by the revelation that Sheev is the Sith Lord.
For another interesting, lore-explanatory video, here's the latest publication of Jensaarai1 concerning the martial might of Sidious's black-armored enforcer during the reign of the Galactic Empire.

Though I'll admit that the politics bored me when I first watched it as a young kid, I find them quite interesting to see unfold now that I'm older.

He played them all like puppets from the first moment he appeared. So true. I've seen it said that as a master manipulator, Sheev Palpatine epitomizes the Star Wars equivalent to the deep state--a notion with which I can agree. One ought to wonder what conspiracy theorists within that universe would do with such incriminating evidence, if they ever got a hold of the (likely encrypted) footage and could prove that it was legit.
The Jedi have grown complacent and long lost their edge, and the Sith undoubtedly took advantage of that decline. And, tragically, the entire galaxy paid the price for overlooking him.

That could’ve very well been true, though I’ve yet to find precise indication of this on Wookieepedia. However, I do believe that the New Republic had main political factions of its own—the libertarian-leaning Populists, and the pro-centralization Centrists. Politics within the Star Wars universe seems to be measured on a scale of least government to most government, rather than conservative right to liberal left as is true in the real world. |

I wonder what’d happen if Dr. Aphra and her crew landed on late 1970s to early 1980s Earth—precisely when the Original Trilogy was the Star Wars that everyone knew and for the most part loved. Considering that she’s a) from the same universe they’re into and b) is a space-faring archeologist who worked under Darth Vader of all people, many a sci-fi enthusiast would no doubt take interest in her. As would, of course, law enforcement and maybe even the highest levels of government if they ever managed to find her.
