What if Iraq would have become Communist (in fact, I think that Iraq had a strong Communist Party during this time in real life) in the late 1950s--specifically after the 1958 coup and regicide?
Any thoughts on this?

Any thoughts on this? I do not think Iraq would be communist, and if Iraq some how did become communist i would assume that Iran would not like that at all.

Actually, a Communist Iraq appears to have been a very real possibility in the late 1950s: www.commentarymagazine.com/articles/as-iraq-goes-communistdays-of-decision-in-baghdad/

I would think that with a communist Iraq we see Soviet troops station in the country while Iran will ask the United states to do the same, maybe this will even prevent the fall of the Shah of Iran in 1979.

That seems likely. US forces would have likely have supported the Shah against Islamist rebels.

Wich will be supported by a communist Iraq and the Soviet Union who want to spread communism across the Middle East.

There would be a lot more support for South Yemen and Palestine by the Soviet Union, and for Israel and Saudi Arabia by the United States.

I think Syria will be another pro-Soviet Union country but i do not know if it will follow the same route as a Communist Iraq.

The Soviet Union might have a strong hand in Syria if it has a base next door in Iraq, though.

Until and unless the Soviet Union begins to go bankrupt, that is. After all, as far as I know, the Soviet Union got a lot of its revenues from selling its oil.

Perhaps they could work out a deal to help sell Iraqi oil for funding?

You mean with the threat of the Soviet Union withdrawing all of its troops from Iraq and cutting off all funding to Iraq if the Iraqi Communist government will refuse to agree to this?

Perhaps, if they phrase it as the only way to guarantee continual aid to Iraq. I don't know enough about Soviet oil policy to judge.
