Okay my first map created is this one.  So, is this the result of a war between the PRC and an alliance of the Soviet Union, India, and the ROC? No the POD lays somewhere in the 1930s. |

Difficult to see a situation where the PRC comes into power and becomes so powerful but doesn't totally overwhelm both the ROC and Manchukuo. Only thing that comes to mind is that assorted butterflies means that Japan and the US never goes to war [or possibly even Japan never attacks mainland China - although in this case I doubt the PRC would defeat the ROC]. Hence both US support for a larger rump ROC and imperial Japanese support for Manchukuo means that, possibly after some heavy fighting, the PRC has reluctantly accepted the continued existance of the two states,

Perhaps the Kuomintang isn't as utterly idiotic as it was in OTL with the peasantry, meaning the Chinese Civil War is more equal? Japan then wants to wait it out before launching a massive invasion, but waits too long. The US backs the Republic of China and lets it maintain Zhejiang and Fujian. Tibet breaks away in the chaos. |

Do the figures for Saudi and the gulf states include a) women and b) non-citizens? I suspect a large number of the latter aren't allowed or able to afford such items.

Smartphones have penetrated lots of third world countries, surprisingly. They're compact and can do a lot. |
