Even without that rather large event, Spain is still not in the expansionary phase, nor is Portugal; without American and French Revolutions, they look to their existing American holdings. The Dutch never have been and have more than they can chew already. Suddenly that ‘free for all’ gets cut down to two.
Even without an American Revolution, we are likely to see more Anglo-French wars, rivalry and conflict. France had already lost India and in effect the Far East, hence being less likely to need and want Australia as a strategic asset. Their scope is drawn across the Med to the declining Barbary States; and even then they still have no practice of settler colonialism.
There comes a point where a man should accept that an idea is unlikely to the point of practical impossibility, rather than seeking to e’er leap through increasingly narrow and convoluted hoops…for what end?
