The reason there were more attacks around the Asian side of the Pacific Rim would almost certainly seem to be based on some form of marketing, as there is no driving military necessity to attack. It gets better: Aliens are after water, so they strike at Amman. A bit silly.
As well as the high concentration on the US with at least 5 of the 17 targets were. I didn't realise they were after water but even without that its a odd place to pick as the capital of a small country with minimal military or economic importance worldwide. Israel, Egypt, Iran and Turkey are all markedly more important and in the region, let alone the strategic importance of Gulf oil if the aliens wanted to screw over the world economy.

Sometimes you take the landing zone that is easy to take, not the one that is hard to fight.

Paris was attacked too, which seems quite hard, a landing in front of Marseille and Toulon would be suicidal, and I can see only a landing not so far of le Havre with probably high difficulty.
Strange that Bruxelles and Amsterdam were not targeted considerring their political and military role in Western Europe.

I initially mistaken it as March 2011. So it's August 2011. The rebels are just about to capture Tripoli from Gaddafi loyalist forces. I wonder how the alien invasion would affect both Libyan and Syrian Civil Wars.

Meanwhile, I'm curious how this would affect Occupy Wall Street and the civil wars in Libya and Syria. On the other hand, I just read again that the Philippine Navy's "newest" warship (actually an old USCG cutter), the BRP Gregorio del Pilar, took its maiden voyage on July 18, 2011. Unfortunately, the Phalanx CIWs and Harpoon missiles were not part of the purchase so it's stuck with its 76 mm canon, 25 mm Bushmaster auto-cannons, and .50 caliber machine guns. Would do jackshit against the alien aircraft so the Goyo (nickname of the ship) is a sitting duck. But the cannons and MGs would work against aliens and ground vehicles on the shore.

Or they get massacred en masse by the aliens. Meanwhile, I'm guessing for Libya and Syria a ceasefire would occur because the aliens are the bigger threat.

Doubt Qaddafi will want a cease fire, he will crush the rebels if he still alive at the point of the, lets call it the War of 2011.

Same for Assad since in 2011, the Syrian Civil War was still an armed uprising rather than full-blown chaos. For Libya, things were already looking bleak for Gaddaffi as August 2011 was the time Tripoli fell to the rebels. Even if NATO withdraws their naval and air power for a possible alien attack, the best thing that happens for Gaddaffi is he manages to put the NTC force on a stalemate.

True, NATO forces will be focus on dealing with the Battles of Paris, London and Hamburg.

Assad will probably have to use massive chemical attacks and extreme violent crackdown in order to stop protests but at least USA or NATO won't do anything to stop him. On the other hand, i can see US and allies disengage troops from Iraq and Afghanistan quickly.
