Democracy is on the back burner in the For All Mankind universe as i found this on AH.com: -The Soviets beating the US to the Moon in 1969. -The US withholding military aid from South Vietnam in 1972, causing the defeat and fall of South Vietnam three years early. -Pope John Paul II getting assassinated. -Margaret Thatcher getting assassinated. -The US men's hockey team getting trounced by the Soviets at Lake Placid. -The US withholding military aid from Kuwait in 1991, likely causing the indefinite occupation of that country by Iraq. -The Chernobyl disaster somehow being avoided. -The Warsaw Pact surviving into the late 1990s (for now). -The Soviets now owning half of the Moon. -Literally all of Latin America becoming communist. -Geopolitically, the deck is stacked against the democratic capitalist world in For All Mankind. I don't really pay much attention to the political ramifications of these decisions and to be fair I don't think it's worth much thought anyway. Sure some of the choices made by the show are cool to think about as they set up neat what if scenarios in future seasons but at the end of the day I don't watch For All Mankind for that sort of thing. I watch for the space stuff. The geopolitically stuff to me is just to set the scene. The way things are going I feel like the US may view the encroachment into the American's by the communists to act as a cause to wage a few wars down south. I would love to see a United Sates that says enough is enough and wages a second war with Mexico and just takes over most if not all of Mexico and divided it into several smaller states forming a bigger US by the mid 2000s. I mean that to me would make some level of sense given how much the Communists have won in this world. We aren't just going to allow them to just put yes men that close to our cities. I say we need to get some love. What better way to give us some love then to have the US have 50+ stars on our flag by the mid to late 2000s.

This reminds me of this timeline in the wiki before Atlantic Iron Curtain. Basically a Sealion wank timeline. By 2003-2010, the USSR influence grew so strong that most of Asia, Africa, and Latin America is red. I wonder why the Monroe Doctrine didn't take effect.

Think it only applies if foreign countries get involved and not democratic elections, if they are that.

The Monroe Doctrine from what little I was told in my schooling days was that the doctrine was any external powers (Such as the Soviets) in the politics of the Americas would be viewed as a potentially hostile act against the US. I would think all of Latin America counts as an external power messing with the politics of the Americans. It's why I'm sort of taken aback that the United States has allowed it to get this bad. Mexican is in some places only a few feet from the US border. No way would a Cold War era US just allow that much of their part of the world fall to the reds. I hope this is answered in a way that makes sense. The United States has to act on this. Wage a second war with Mexican and take over their lands. The last time we added a state to the union was in 1959. So as of 1992 it's been 33 years. It's high time we added four or five more stars to our flag.

A fair number of things have nothing at all to do with space. The focus may be on space in the show but we also know that there is a lot of stuff that happens on Earth that in no way has a link to space or any mission on the Moon. Hell in the last season we nearly had a shooting war with the Soviets. The only reason said shooting war never happened was that Danielle Poole didn't follow orders and linked up with the awaiting cosmonauts at the 11th hour. So lets not forget that stuff happens that has no link to space in this show. The pope dying doesn't seem to have any link to space and yet it's covered. The airlift that gives us a new cast member for season two. I agree that whatever they do with Mexico and the other Latin states it'll be more a background thing and not the focus of an episode. I just hope that it is covered and not pushed aside for Mars. This is far too big to just be forgotten because Mars is the next big step.

Think it is covers on Apple TV what happens between season 2 and 3. Sure it covers everything from 1983 up to 1992 but what does that have to do with anything I said? Up to now the United States has done nothing to stop the encroachment by the Soviets on the North American continent up to this point. So it wouldn't have anything to say on how the US will deal with Mexico and the other Latin states. Maybe episode three will have something to say on the matter though I'm doubtful on that seeing as Mars seems to be the focus this season. The airlift last season has had more coverage then the fallout of this geopolitical situation has in this one. I just hope something is done because right now this seems to be a timeline where the US lost the Cold War. I'm not too keen on watching a show where the US just gets it's butt kicked and only gains small wins. We need to see the Soviets get some major losses in the coming episodes. If we lose Mars I feel like it may be time to try finding a new show to watch.
