10,000 meters... that's very long range for the time. I think that both sides in Tsushima opened fire at closer ranges, and people considered that noteworthy.

Agree - but these Navies haven't seen combat for forty or a hundred years. Might be a little jumpy. Also not much may have been dripping down from Tsushima to some small country Navies in the north of Europe. Better get a shot off once the enemys within range even if very long.

A change of course: Seeing his move countered the Swedish commander changed course due west to once again try and cross the Allied T only to see the Allied Squadron veer to the north to avoid the Swedish manouevre and possibly cut off the Swedish Second Division from the main engagement.
During the change of course the two forces continually exchanged fire; the slowfiring but well armoured Ivar Hvitfeldt managed to score hits with its 10” guns on Äran slowing it down and taking its port broadside guns out of action. Herluf Trolle and Olfert Fisher letting their quickfire 6” guns roar slowed down Mannlikheten - though it also scored hits on Herluf Trolle - and Wasa too as well as taking some of its guns out of action. Eidsvold bringing her quickfirng guns to bear on the Wasa hit the boilerroom cutting off power for the propellers. By now the damage control team on Wasa had its hands full though the gun crews managed getting the guns back into working order. Tapparheten got the range on Valkyrien hitting it on the unprotected hull with shells exploding in the boilerroom with at least one armour piercing shell going right through the ship without exploding.

However as gral says their very, very little chance of hitting much at those ranges. Not sure what sort of targeting system they would have had but that's probably beyond their max range settings. Especially for anything smaller than 10"-8" at most I would have thought.

Crossing the T: Still on a northerly course Evers watched his counterpart turn southwest effectively crossing his line between the Danish and Norwegian Squadrons though because of lack of propulsion Olfert Fischer by now was in the rear exchanging fire with Dristigheten by its rear main gun. Going at the Eidsvold Äran made its way through the Allied line though receiving hits from the quickfiring guns of Eidsvold, Norge and Olfert Fischer; in the proces taking out almost all of Ärans guns and also hitting the boilerroom slowing the Swedish ship. The second Swedish ship Tapparheten following Äran through the line scoring hits on Norge but itself hit by shells from Herluf Trolle and Iver Hvitfeldt. Mannlikheten came through without being hit and Wasa once again scored hits on the unprotected hull of Valkyrien further slowing it down.

Allied change of course: Turning to a course parallel with the enemy slightly to the north of it Evers could see Valkyrien breaking out of the line very slowly making its way north; seemed the damages on the hull had wrought havoc on its machinery.
The Swedish line now had Äran in the rear the other ships having overtaken it; it probably had engine troubles as well. Three ships of Swedish Second Division was still further away trying to keep up or not having been able to read the signals from the flagship as they seemed to be on a course going northwest.
As the lead Allied ships were turning to get on parallel course with the Swedes the captain on Eidsvold suddenly found himself on point blank range of the Swedish Torpedoboats that had veered round from their northwest course and now came at the Allied line from the north as the melee with the Swedish Armoured Ships continued. Eidsvold and Olfert Fisher firing their tertiary guns and gatlings at the Swedish Torpedoboats each sinking one before the release of torpedoes and breaking off of attack. Olfert Fischer managed to avoid being hit by torpedoes but got a salvo from Äran while Eidsvold and Norge was both hit by torpedoes. Eidsvold getting its rudder blown off though the torpedo hitting Norge was a dud.

Aborting action: In the running melee the rest of the ships on both sides took damage which by now forced the Swedish commander to realize that the odds seemed to be against him thus he made a new change of course going east to get back to the security of the archipelago and Hajen. Three ships of the Second Division Niord Oden and Thor seemed to still steam north according to plan though Dristigheten still seemed to disobay orders and kept to his rear.
The Allied line had seen major change as Olfert Fisher had broken out too though Valkyrien seemed to be raising steam and going back towards the battle. Running from the Swedish Second Division which didn't seem to notice or because of the security provided by the other Allied ships guns. The line now counted Ivar Hvitfeldt – Norge – Herluf Trolle – and a limping Eidsvold getting an emergency rudder rigged in said order.

Allied torpedo attack: To stop the Swedish flight Evers signalled his Torpedoboats to close in on the Swedish ships and deliver a torpedo attack. During the Torpedoboat attack in which Äran and Tapparheten was hit slowing them both from water rushing into their hulls the Swedes managed to sink one Torpedoboat and damage three as well as hit Ivar Hvitfeldt; which also got hit by a Danish torpedo that almost blew the forecastle off and left the old armoured ship slowly decellerate to a stop.
Led now by Wasa the Swedes was running for it; the defenceless Äran in the rear of the Swedish line getting the full of the shelling from the Allied ships which by now only numbered three: Norge, Herluf Trolle and Olfert Fischer having returned to the battle line. Eidsvold having trouble keeping up and being joined by Valkyrien moving up on the rear of the line. Ivar Hvitfeldt looked to have gotten steam up again and was slowly turning southwest and heading for Danish port to hopefully avoid sinking.
With Wasa and part of the Swedish Torpedoboats reaching safety Tapparheten, Mannlikheten, Dristigheten and Äran was still struggling to move on.
Eidsvold had rejoined the Allied line while Valkyrien was still to the rear. The Allied Torpedoboats had been signalled to break off and chase off the Swedish Second Division.
Even if the Swedish ships were badly beaten up Mannlikheten still managed to get the range on Norge and silence her guns but now the Swedish flight had turned into a crawl.
Leaving the line the officers on Norge could watch Herluf Trolle, Olfert Fisher and their sister Eidsvold and even the far to the rear Valkyrien deliver the final blows to the Swedes before these slipped into the archipelago. All except Tapparheten that by now had stopped in the water guns silent and listing to port where the torpedo had hit. As Olfert Fisher and Eidsvold turned southwest to get away from the archipelago area and out to sea and safety Herluf Trolle and Valkyrien stayed close to Tapparheten that was about to capsize to pick up survivors.

Indeed they have. Those modern quick-firing guns decided the battle with Torpedoboats delivering the coup de grace. The Swedish Torpedoboats also did damage in their engagement though less so.

Leaving the field of battle: Watching the approach of Swedish light units and fearing the whereabouts of Hajen Evers signalled his ships to leave the scene and get back on station. Going out for the twelve mile mark Evers could see masts of several large warships approaching. Being too large and too many to be Scandinavian Evers relaxed and more so as the ships were identified as Royal Navy Armoured Cruisers.
Much to the surprise of Captain Jellicoe he was addressed in English by the Danish Captain and could relax leaving the French or German aside for the formalities and consultations with Captain Evers.
Further north the Captain of Harald Haarfagre and Admiral Sparre guarding the mouth of Oslo Fiord with a screen of Torpedo- and Gunboats was notified by wireless by Evers that three Swedish Armoured Ships had been seen heading northwest possibly for Oslo Fiord; the Danish – Norwegian Torpedoboats of the Blockade Squadron had been sent chasing the ships.
The Swedish Second Division of three Armoured Ships continued to Strömstad where it began having troops board for the amphibious operation. The Swedish Torpedoboats had arrived some hours earlier and had been watching the approaches for Allied warships. Only the Allied Torpedoboats chasing the Second Division would be sighted and those kept off the archipelago.
Around midnight orders to stand down and disembark the amphibious force was received from the Swedish General Staff. The defeat in the battle of Göteborg/Vinga and arrival of Jellicoe's Armoured Cruisers in Scandinavian waters had served to scare the Swedish Government.
