Chapter Fifteen: Deep in the Dragon’s CaveExcerpts from “Dragon’s Roar: The Resurgent Middle Kingdom After Mao” By: Ye Fei Zhonghua Book Company (translated into English from original Mandarin)
Chapter Three: Chaos and TurmoilThe Premiership of Hu Yaobang was often criticized by the old guard within the Chinese government, most notably for its liberal flavor in its pursuit of reforms. Many of the Party officials had also distrusted the young reformer since he was not radical enough to satisfy their own curiosity, if that is the correct term to use. The protests in December of 1986 which supported economic liberalization and greater demand for political freedom had been viewed as a small spark that would eventually become a bonfire. However, to their small disappointment, Hu had admitted that he might have been wrong in speeding up the process of the implementation of economic reforms, as envisioned by Comrade Deng. Thus, he reluctantly ordered the police to break up the demonstrations in Hefei, Anhui, but there was no recorded death in the police crackdown. Although no one else in China knew of the events that transpired across the South China Sea back in February of 1986, I was keenly aware of what had happened. After all, I was born in the very same country that saw one semi-fascist dictator fall, only because of the accidental murder of civilians by the soldiers who were under the command of the man that all of China eventually grew to hate so badly, he was the Second Coming of Hideki Tojo.
I was still a Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 7th National People’s Congress, but I had no official political influence in all of China. However, I managed to gain the trust of one ally in Wang Dongxing, who was currently commanding the Chinese border garrison troops guarding our southern border with the wayward fraternal Vietnamese brothers. Say what you wish about the Vietnamese people, but they are fiercely proud of their resistance to larger empires, be they the French, the Americans, or even us. However, the rivalry between our nation and Vietnam went back a thousand years, so historical grievance is a hot topic in Vietnam. At the same time, we could not ignore the fact that the Vietnamese military has acted aggressively in Kampuchea, against our comrades in the Khmer Rouge. Even Thailand, a country that is ruled by a monarch, has sided with us against Vietnam. The complex situation in SE Asia was so delicate that General Wang had ordered the Chinese border troops to seize Lao Cai, a Vietnamese border town close to Guangxi, to put pressure on the Vietnamese military to stop their relentless attacks against the Thai border positions. Officially, the Thai government did not have the Khmer Rouge under their protection. Unofficially though, they have sheltered the remnants of the former Khmer Rouge regime from both the Vietnamese military and their pro-Hanoi Kampuchean puppets.
As for Comrade Hu himself, he began to repair his fractured relations with the People’s Liberation Army by paying attention to the military situation on our southern frontier. Comrade General Wang would constantly feed him information on how our troops are faring against the Vietnamese, but to our frustration, the Vietnamese troops managed to repel our attack on Lao Cai. We had to give Comrade Hu credit where it is due, because he kept on talking to Comrade Vo, the president of socialist Vietnam, about ways to stop the conflict between Vietnam and the Khmer Rouge. To my horror, when I heard Comrade Hu publicly speak about the worst excesses of the Khmer Rouge, most of us inside the briefing room in Nanning wanted to curse him badly. We may have been aware of what they have done, but to say it out loud to the Vietnamese, what the hell was he thinking? It was at this point that I took Comrade Wang aside and brought him into an empty room. We looked around the room to make sure that there were no bugs to record our conversation.
“Comrade Hu may be a useful man, but in areas relating to defense, he’s a complete idiot,” Wang growled. I nodded in agreement, even though Hu himself had fought the Japanese during their invasion of China. “I do not know why the other Party officials did not push harder to have him resign.”
“And who would replace Comrade Hu?” I asked back. “We need someone to soothe the anger of the students who were supporting his reforms, but I agree that he went a bit too quick in implementing it.”
“Never mind that. There is something I have to tell you.” Comrade Wang pointed at a map of the Asian continent. “What do you see here?”
I looked at it but frowned. “A list of countries.”
“Not a list of countries; our strategic map.” Comrade Wang pointed at the map where Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia are located. “We have allies in Laos and Cambodia, despite the pro-Hanoi puppets’ opinions. Singapore might be a mixed bag, but many of the citizens of Singapore share our blood. Malaysia and Indonesia are neutral, but the latter had an anti-Chinese riot. Comrade Hu has not spoken any word about this atrocity.” Finally, he pointed at another part of the map where the Philippines is located. “And now we reach the epicenter of this potential epicenter of the chaos in SE Asia, no doubt fomented by the Western imperialists. I am sure you are familiar with your former homeland?”
“It was only my former homeland in that I was born in it, and that I joined the cause while lying to my mother that I would study in Japan when I joined Comrade Mao’s cause,” I replied in a satisfactory voice. “You are not merely showing me a map for nothing, are you?”
“I do not like what I am hearing from our Ambassador to the Philippines. Another semi-fascist has backed the previous semi-fascist dictator in this little civil war of theirs, while the new American puppet, from what I have heard, can trace her family all the way back to Fujian. The last semi-fascist on the other hand, the same fool who slaughtered those people demanding change, has the upper hand. I would not be surprised if the Americans decide to set her aside for that fool,” Wang growled again. He placed his hand on my shoulder and grimaced. “Comrade Ye, I have a great need of your services, for an extremely important political mission.”
I stood at attention and stamped my feet together. “Your orders, Comrade General?”
“I want you to join my group as a political and military consultant. While Comrade Hu’s reforms may hold water for now, eventually there will be those who may accuse us of being insufficient in our revolutionary zeal. You must be the brains behind what I want to do, not just for our people, but for our nation. It is about time the red dragon arises from its slumber once again.” I nodded in agreement, although I had my suspicions as to what he wanted me to do.--- “Both the Republicans and Democrats have failed in their task to prevent the rise of China, and as a result, we have seen for ourselves back in 1996, just how aggressive and bold they have become. Thanks to Chinese military adventures in the South China Sea and in SE Asia, we now have an entire region at their mercy. While I condemn the human rights violations committed by the Tadiar military dictatorship, we are forced to use them as a dam against the Red tide of Chinese communism, despite our better judgment. Yet, many of our colleagues in the mainstream parties want to provoke Russia when they might be better served as a deterrent against Chinese power in the region? Let me ask you all one simple question: how long until Central Asia becomes a gigantic Chinese colony? How long until our military presence in the Asia-Pacific region vanishes? How long until our allies in Australia, New Zealand and Canada must start bowing to Chinese dictates? My answer is a simple one: it has already happened everywhere, but we are lucky that the other Anglosphere nations have not yet fallen under Chinese influence. I have fought to keep our jobs in the United States, or at the very least, ship some of them to nations that our allies like Mexico. The American people do not want a war with either the Russian people or the Chinese people, but powerful, influential globalist actors have conspired to drag the entire planet into a Third World War. For what exactly? Profit, plain and simple. I do not intend for this comment as an attack against capitalism, but at the same time we need to recognize that our own predatory capitalist behavior has garnered such reactions that made it justified to commit such atrocities against our way of life. This is not just a call to arms, but a call to defend our liberties against totalitarian regimes. If we allow China to goose step their way around Southeast Asia, what is stopping them from marching into India and slicing off the territory they claim to be theirs? The only stopping China from getting what it wants is us. The United States of America. Therefore, I wish to convince our fellow Americans to write to their representatives and senators to start treating the Chinese regime as an existential threat to the free world.” James Traficant, from the C-SPAN session on March 13, 2009.--- Excerpts from “Define and Decode: The Ye Doctrine Explained” Courtesy of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, released in 2017“The formulation of the Ye Doctrine was masterminded by its namesake, Ye Fei, who was the de facto shadow behind the communist government in China. After the brutal crackdown in the Tiananmen Square incident, Ye Fei feared that the world would not take too kindly to what appears to be a Chinese massacre of innocent civilians. They have already witnessed such a debacle with the Tadiar-led Philippine Marines’ mass murder of civilians (even if it was accidental), and the riots in Belgrade that led to General Veljko Kadijevic’s harsh clampdown against the nationalist rioters. When the Second Russian Civil War broke out on June 2, 1990, many PLA generals criticized General Ye’s pleas for the PLA to not fire on the civilians as limp wristed. They saw what happened with the Sverdlovsk Mutiny, and feared the same thing that will happen in China unless certain active measures were taken. At the same time, as the civil war in the former Soviet Union progressed, Ye also foresaw the success of the rebel forces in the new Russia and appealed to the Soviet loyalist forces who held on the long-discredited communist ideology for political solidarity.
The main pillars of the Ye Doctrine are as follows:
1) SINOCENTRISM: The securing of China’s traditional sphere of influence and position on the world stage through a combination of diplomatic, economic, socio-political, and military assistance. Having secured Indochina initially, before the Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979 broke out and the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia that removed the Khmer Rouge, China would also have to court Thailand and Burma as its next target to secure a naval base in the Indian Ocean region. This in turn, would leave the rest of SE Asia susceptible to Chinese influence. In addition, the capture of the Spratly Islands would also allow Chinese maritime traffic to flow unhindered, demonstrating to SE Asia that it clearly intends to dominate the region, forcing all the SE Asian nations to pledge political fealty to them. In addition, the Overseas Chinese diaspora would be targeted for infiltration by communist party agents through cultural fronts, like the Confucius Institute.
2) SOCIO-POLITICAL REVIVALISM: The brief revival of the Chinese revolutionary spirit through the rise of the Chinese New Left, or the Neo-Maoist faction. The Chinese New Left saw the erosion of the old Chinese Maoist spirit when the capitalist reforms of Deng Xiaoping were being implemented to lift the Chinese masses out of poverty. However, the emergence of Chinese billionaires who were also Communist Party members had also resulted in the rise of the Crown Princes’ Party, where children of earlier generations of Chinese communist politicians had grown up to be pampered and spoiled rotten. The revival of the Maoist spirit would ensure the re-purification of the Chinese spirit from the destructive and corrosive influence of Western capitalism. This is where the Chinese New Left will play a large role in defining the Neo-Maoist ideology, and their influence was felt in Uzbekistan, where the Uzbeks had elected the Revolutionary Brotherhood Party in 2007 in the first non-violent rise of a far-left political party since the collapse of the USSR.
3) CHINESE IRREDENTISM: Although related to the first pillar but on a larger scale, the reconquest of lost Chinese territories that were taken from them by its enemies. Outer Manchuria, which is under the control of the former Soviet Union and then Russia, would return to Chinese control, either through conquest or puppetization of the Russian Far East by the sponsoring of a pro-Chinese rump Soviet communist regime, centered around Vladivostok (from which the Chinese government would encourage the puppet rump Soviet regime to allow Chinese settlement in Outer Manchuria, thereby creating a justification for the reincorporation of Outer Manchuria into China). Sakhalin would also become a part of China as well, to acquire a larger power projection into the rest of the North Pacific. Moreover, the independent Mongolian state would be taken over by China, in a similar manner to how Tibet was reconquered. Taiwan, likewise, would be reintegrated without any tolerance for opposition.
4) PAN-ASIAN MULTI-BILATERALISM: Combining traditional Maoism with Pan-Asian solidarity, this would ensure that all the Asian nations would cooperate with each other, though every negotiation among every Asian nation would go through China, reinforcing the Sinocentrist political system. Though it is like the Japanese-sponsored Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, this Chinese-sponsored ‘Co-Prosperity’ bloc would in theory, revive the Sinocentric tributary system, albeit with communist leanings.
5) BENEVOLENT REGIONAL HEGEMONISM: Ultimately, the first four pillars of the Ye Doctrine would lead to the final pillar, which would be for China to obtain regional hegemonism through its benevolent policies. The benevolent policies of the Chinese national communist regime would ensure that most of the other Asian nations would toe the line dictated by Beijing, while at the same time allowing them to develop their own state at their own pace and style. Central, East and SE Asia would become the main priority of the Chinese regime, although Iran might also be courted as another potential Chinese ally, considering the Iranian role in the Second Russian Civil War when pro-Iranian Shia militias had fought both Soviet loyalist and Lebedite rebel forces in the predominantly Shia Muslim Azerbaijan. India is another potential ally, although the territorial disputes in the Himalayan region might make it an unappealing target. Japan is out of the question, due to historical grievances. The two Koreas would also be a vital target, though until Korea’s reunification, China mainly kept its distance from both Koreas. Moreover, a reunited Korea will serve as China’s shield against a potential Japanese resurgence and playing on the Japanese fear of seeing Korea as a dagger pointed at the heart of Japan will give China an advantage over Japan.
So, what makes Ye Fei the most dangerous man in the world? His vision and strategy for modern China is somehow almost like the old American policy of benevolent assimilation towards the Philippines when it seized the island from Spain after the Spanish-American War of 1898. However, it would be a benevolent assimilation into the Sinocentric tributary system, where each Asian nation would be assimilated into the Chinese political mindset, even if it is officially a communist mindset. Moreover, having been born in the Philippines himself, he can also play on the Filipino tradition of “utang na loob”, or indebtedness and use it as official Chinese policy towards its vassals. “Utang na loob” mindset was a crucial part of the fourth pillar of the Ye Doctrine, and it is this kind of mindset that proved to be the most dangerous, since if China was involved in helping to settle the disputes between the two junior Asian partners, the Chinese government can use their help as indebtedness to squeeze some concessions out of them.”The architect of the Ye Doctrine, Ye Fei was beloved in China and in other parts of Asia for his brilliant attempt to reunite the Asian continent after the end of the Cold War, but was detested in his original birth place by the Tadiar dictatorship. It was also Ye Fei who orchestrated the Spratly Islands dispute that resulted in the first aerial bombardment on Philippine soil by a foreign power since the end of WWII.--- TADIAR, TAMOGAMI, TO MEET IN KABANKALAN TO COMMEMORATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF RESTORATION OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS Japan Times May 27, 2006Kabankalan, PHILIPPINES – In one of the few rare moments of the Tadiar military dictatorship, Japan Air Self-Defense Force General Tamogami Toshio led a 16-man delegation on an official diplomatic visit to the Philippines, even as the United States criticized the Japanese government for maintaining diplomatic relations with the Philippines, even after the establishment of the Tadiar military regime in 1988 after its victory in the Philippine Civil War against the restorationist faction centered around the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and Fabian Ver. The diplomatic convention began with the official inspection of the Philippine Honor Guard by General Tamogami, now better trained and better equipped after undergoing a massive retraining program that saw much of Chile’s top military officers arrive in the Philippines upon the invitation of Major General Artemio Tadiar sent to the former Pinochet regime. Next was the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, where both military officers don traditional summer yukata for the tea drinking ceremony, followed by the serving of both Japanese and Filipino dishes.
“It is a pleasure to see a kindred soul here in the Philippines, and as Japan has maintained ties to this country, even after the fall of Corazon Aquino as President, the Filipino people can count on Japan to save them. Our bonds of brotherhood and friendship, though fractured and tested throughout time, has emerged stronger,” says General Tamogami after the tea ceremony was over.
Accompanying General Tamogami is the firebrand nationalist spokesperson, Makoto Sakurai, who has represented the emerging Japanese nationalist movement, ‘Ganbare Nippon’. Sakurai held private talks with Tadiar regarding Filipino temporary workers in Japan and his plans for them, and the proposal made by Sakurai to Tadiar to send an additional 500 junior officer cadets from the Philippine Military Academy to study at Japanese military universities was brought up to the third day of the meeting between Tadiar and Tamogami. Sakurai’s proposal was accepted, but Tamogami also proposed to send 300 Japanese language teachers to the Philippines to bolster the emerging Japanese language schools in the country, and to help with the reformation of the Philippine educational system to match with that of Korea, China, Taiwan, and Japan. Upon the finalization of the agreement between the two countries, which was mostly economic, though there were also social, educational, and diplomatic segments as well, both the Philippines and Japan would engage in additional diplomatic relations with nations like Mexico, Argentina, Indonesia, Turkey, and Bulgaria. Finally, Japan will undertake additional investments in infrastructure-based projects, in collaboration with both the Philippine and Turkish governments (by then, Turkish firms have already established themselves in the Philippines).
“We are genuinely thankful to Major General Tadiar for keeping open the diplomatic channels between the Philippines and Japan,” says filmmaker Mizushima Satoru, who was in the Philippines for an independent filmmaking project. “In the minds and hearts of the Japanese people, Filipinos are stout allies against Chinese communism, but our current constitution prevents us from actively helping our ally with whatever military aid they need. It is not naïve to assume that we would leave them at the mercy of the Chinese. Together with the Filipino people, we can truly defeat Chinese communism. One day, when Article Nine will be eventually abolished, that is when Japan can truly turn the Philippines into a powerful ally in the Southeast Asian region, alongside Indonesia.”--- “It is with great honor that I have accepted the position as Party leader, and that I will officially declare my candidacy for the seat of Prime Minister as a representative of the United Japan Party. Although our party has contained many hotheads, I am sure that with the temperament of older generations, we can control the impulses of our younger politicians. With no offense, though with great respect to Sakurai-san, I feel that he does not have the political maturity to run for the Prime Minister’s position. However, I will encourage him to run for political office as representative of Fukuoka Prefecture, if he behaves as an exemplary Japanese nationalist, but with a clear head. In addition, I will appoint Ishihara Shintaro as my campaign manager for this upcoming election.” Toshio Tamogami, after declaring his intention to run for the position of Prime Minister in the 2017 Japanese election.
Toshio Tamogami meets his supporters during a political campaign in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture. His image is being cultivated by the likes of Shintaro Ishihara as the reasonable face of Japanese ultranationalism, in stark contrast to the more hotheaded younger politicians like Makoto Sakurai.--- “My impression of former General Tamogami is that he is basically a mix of Generals Tadiar before he established his dictatorship, Lebed during the Second Russian Civil War, Park during his dictatorship in the former South Korea, and President Subianto of Indonesia after he won the election in 1986. After the disastrous Tadiar dictatorship, do we want a repeat of that, in Japan of all places? I can understand what Tamogami is up against. He is facing the possibility of leading Japan to the biggest political crisis since the Chinese annexation of the Spratly Islands, but he has no Tadiar to call as a friend. He will now deal with President Loren Legarda, and she is a different kind of a conservative politican. She is also a Colonel in the Philippine Air Force, which also raises the fear of another military dictatorship on the scale of her infamous predecessor. However, President Legarda would be a wonderful politician to work with, since she takes her lessons from Mr. Tamogami. We should make sure to not screw up our relations with both the Philippines and Japan, or they may try to form an independent bloc that will oppose both us and the Chinese.” General Michael Flynn, commenting on the meeting he had with General Tamogami during Joint Challenge Infinite Stratos, 2018.--- ROGOZIN, ABE, TO SIGN FINAL PEACE TREATY, FORMALLY ENDING STATE OF WAR BETWEEN RUSSIA AND JAPAN Moscow Times August 15, 2015Vladivostok, PRIMORSKY KRAI – The final peace treaty that was supposed to be signed between Japan and the former Soviet Union will now be officially signed by both Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan and Dmitry Rogozin of the Russian Federation, with additional signatures provided by the presidents of the constituent Republics, including Alyaksandar Milinkevich from the Republic of Belarus, and Pavlo Lazarenko from the Republic of Ukraine. In addition, Yugoslavia’s President Filip Vujanovic also attended the Russia-Japan Peace Summit in Vladivostok alongside the President of the Autonomous Republic of Montenegro Igor Luksic to sign a rarely unheard-of peace treaty between Japan and Montenegro, stemming from the 1904-05 Russo-Japanese War in which the former Principality of Montenegro had declared war on Japan in support of Russia, though did not do much to contribute to the Russian war effort other than to send volunteers. The de facto state of war between Montenegro and Japan was overlooked for decades until the Vladivostok Peace Summit in which Yugoslavia would sign the peace treaty with Japan on behalf of Montenegro.
In the Treaty of Vladivostok (2015), both Russia and Japan would declare the end of the conflict between each other, and would settle the Kuril Islands dispute, with Iturup and Kunashir (Etorofu and Kunashiri in Japanese) ceded back to Japan, while Shikotan and Habomai would officially be recognized as Russian territory. It also highlighted other terms of the treaty, with no financial reparations demanded upon Japan by Russia, because of the final settlement of the Kuril Islands’ ownership. Moreover, it also delineated maritime boundaries between the two nations, as well as potential military partnerships between them. Finally, the peace treaty signed between Russia and Japan would formally put an end to that theater of World War Two, paving the way for the enhancement of diplomatic relations between them. Although not officially stated in the peace treaty but verbally mentioned during the negotiations, Russia declared its support for Japanese sovereignty over the Senkaku Islands (disputed by China), though would stay neutral in the Dokdo/Takeshima Island dispute between Japan and Korea, as to maintain friendly relations with the latter. Japan in turn, would support Russian sovereignty over the disputed area of Menkeseli, a region along the Argun River that was seized by Lebedite rebel troops during the Second Russian Civil War. Moreover, Japan would also recognize Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island and Tarabarov Island as part of Russia to contain Chinese territorial claims. Finally, both Russia and Japan will not recognize the Chinese annexation of the entire Spratly Islands chain, recognizing its ownership by their previous legal owners.

Interesting and quite a mess brewing in E Asia. China on a route of imperial expansion and planning to dominate most of Asia. Japan looking like it may be turning militaristic again and forming links with Lebed's Russia and post-Tadiar Philippines. The US apparently at least partially driven from the region and not clear what's happened to Taiwan but does sound like a lot of SE Asia are under the Beijing yoke, even if many of them don't realise it.

At this point, we may see that Lebed might no longer be the real power behind the ‘throne’ of Russia, so to speak. So far, we have a possible President Burbulis, then Surkov and finally Rogozin. As for the US military position in Asia, they still have bases in Japan, though in the future we could also see two bases in the Philippines reactivated once again. Even if China may accomplish some of their objectives, India will always be a thorn on China‘a side as well.

So Ye Fei is a villain here instead of a hero for condemning the Tiananmen Square massacre?

So Ye Fei is a villain here instead of a hero for condemning the Tiananmen Square massacre? It depends on the viewpoint of the Chinese hardliners. He is a hero for sponsoring and reviving Pan-Asian solidarity, but a villain in the Philippines. He would certainly be horrified of Tadiar for sure. Think of Ye Fei as the Chinese version of Alexander Dugin, the OTL brains behind OTL Putin's actions in Ukraine and the Caucasus.

Chapter Sixteen: Requiem for DeathPROMINENT FILIPINO SINGER UNEXPECTEDLY DIES DURING LAST CHRISTMAS CONCERT, RADIATION POISONING THE MAIN CAUSE Vancouver Sun January 9, 2004Vancouver, BRITISH COLUMBIA – A prominent exiled singer from the Philippines, better known for his Christian theme in his lyrics, has died. Jose Mari Chan, aged 59, had suddenly died from health complications after giving a Christmas concert at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in downtown Vancouver, and was rushed to St. Paul’s Hospital after complaining about chest pain. Prior to the concert, it was reported that he accepted a mug of hot chocolate from one of the theatre workers and drank it, but after being rushed to the hospital, hospital staff pronounced him dead on January 7, at 6:32 AM. Furthermore, there were also additional hospital staff who came down with similar symptoms to Mr. Chan, but so far it does not qualify as a pandemic. Furthermore, the test results were released, and it reveals the cause of Mr. Chan’s death. According to hospital records, Mr. Chan had died from radiation poisoning, with the hot chocolate being tested for possible poisons and as it turns out, the hot chocolate contained traces of polonium-210.
“We are not sure as to how someone like Jose Mari Chan would die like that. He did not hate anyone at all,” cried one of the fans who attended Mr. Chan’s concert the day before he died. “He was loved by the Filipino community for his contribution to the Christmas celebrations.”
Although it is not yet official, some unconfirmed sources say that Jose Mari Chan had been a target of a planned assassination attempt few years prior to his actual death, most notably the Tadiar regime. Major General Tadiar, who apparently is also a big fan of Jose Mari Chan, has often been seen listening to his songs every Christmas, but since the release of a controversial Christmas song “Coming Back Home for Christmas”, which to an untrained mind, is another unusual Christmas song written by Mr. Chan, but to some Filipino experts, contained coded messages. When some lyrics are being written, it translates to anti-regime messages. Others believe that Jose Mari Chan’s death was possibly motivated by racial hatred, but skeptics dismiss it as impossible, since not even white Canadian fans of Mr. Chan would hate him due to his heritage. However, there are also signs of anti-Chinese racism from among the Filipino community, which worsened after China’s illegal seizure and annexation of the Spratly Islands chain and the People’s Liberation Air Force bombing of Manila in 1995.
“They pin the blame for Mr. Chan’s death on a Filipino who just happened to be related to one of the victims of Chinese military aggression, but here is one question that I need to ask: how can an ordinary Filipino get his or her hands on such toxic item like polonium-210? Clearly, Tadiar, or even one of the other two coup leaders like Aromin or Doromal, would be responsible for Mr. Chan’s murder,” said another fan of Mr. Chan when asked about the responsible party for Mr. Chan’s death. “It is not the first time that the Tadiar regime has killed an opposition figure overseas. Just ask Bong Go how that went.” Jose Mari Chan sings in his 2004 concert in Vancouver, Canada. Though little did anyone know, that year was going to be his final performance.--- Excerpts from Jose Mari Chan’s Christmas song “Coming Back Home for Christimas”:Many times, many years, have I yearned for the home I have left, with every single day passing by as the children cry with anguish, remembering the time when the sky darkens further, the rain is pouring down every day, without a ray of sunshine, I am tired and weary of the days when the sky weeps, the souls of those who cry out in agony when the sky erupts, even as December approaches us with apprehension, there is no end in sight for our yearning for home.
We are coming back home for Christmas and to our family, where our heart and soul belongs, We are coming back home for Christmas and to our friends, friends whose lives we give our toast to for the cause they fight for.
Like the nomads who wander the desert for forty years, we wander and build our homes elsewhere, every time we see the Christmas soul emerge from another house, reminds us of the time we used to bring our family together, until when the bombs and bullets fly in the sky, and rows of bodies are laid to rest in each grave, with no coffin to use to bury the dead corpses, just like the Christmas spirit, we eagerly await for a new day, a new dawn of an era with a glimmer of hope, just like the Christmas gifts, we await the day of happiness, when the Prince of the world is humbled before God Almighty
---- OILERS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT STANLEY CUP IN BITTER 4-3 SERIES AGAINST RANGERS IN NORTHLAND COLISEUM Edmonton Journal May 29, 1986Edmonton, ALBERTA – The Edmonton Oilers have won their third straight Stanley Cup against the New York Rangers in a hotly contested Game Seven of the Stanley Cup finals, by the score of curiously enough, 4-3, in a triple overtime. The final match of the entire Stanley Cup finals had surpassed the Game 3 match between the Oilers and Flames in terms of the match length, breaking the record for the longest hockey game in recorded history. All three periods saw the game tied at 1-1, going into the next period. However, the first two overtimes saw no scoring, until the third overtime, when during a turnover by Rangers LW Mark Osborne, the puck was intercepted by C Wayne Gretzky, leading to a 2-on-1 rush with him and Paul Coffey going up against Defenseman Tom Laidlaw, eventually resulting in a game winning goal by Coffey, with Gretzky getting the assist. Some say that the Oilers’ chance at creating a dynasty was on the brink of collapse during the Game 3 match against Calgary, but thanks to careful play, the Oilers were able to win that. Though the Oilers still lost some games, they were able to win their series against the Flames 4 games to 2.--- MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL 1987 SEASON

--- PHILIPPINE NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM HIRES MIROSLAV BOJKO AS HEAD COACH TO REPLACE ANTO GONZALES WHO RESIGNS FROM TEAM Manila Times August 10, 2014 Kabankalan, FEDERAL CITY DISTRICT OF KABANKALAN – The Philippine national football team has garnered international media attention when it hired Miroslav Bojko as their new head coach, replacing Anto Gonzalez, who resigned from the team after a mutual agreement which saw him accepting the position as assistant head coach of the Philippine U21 national team. Bojko, who formerly managed a Croatian football team Cibalia, was approached by the Philippine Football Federation for the position as head coach upon the recommendation of Yugoslav coach Aleksandar Jankovic, who spoke to the PFF staff after the infamous 8-0 drubbing of the Philippine football team at the hands of the Yugoslav team back in 2012 in Belgrade. As it turns out, both Jankovic and Bojko had once worked together, managing Cibalia before Jankovic took over the Yugoslav football team. In addition, upon taking the role as head coach, Bojko gave his recommendations for the establishment of football academies throughout the country, a proposal that went well with both the Philippine Football Federation authorities and Philippine President Loren Legarda, who was open to foreign direct involvement in the economic and social reforms of the country after decades of military rule by former junta leader Artemio Tadiar. In addition, Bojko supported the retention of the football branch of the AFP Athletic Corps (established in 1992 on Tadiar’s personal order to ensure the physical development of its military personnel), namely the AFP FC, for the Philippine Premier League, followed by the 2-Tier National League, and 3-Tier Development League.
“The team I am tasked with coaching is hungry for improvement and international experience. Because of the travel bans and the diplomatic isolation, these football players have no exposure to how football is played outside their homeland, so I have also been tasked by the Philippine Football Federation to select a couple of their football players to be either loaned out to foreign teams, or to have them sign with international clubs,” says Bojko during a briefing in 2013, regarding the state of the football players’ development in the Philippines. “Some of the players I have coached were approached by football clubs in North America, Australia, East Asia and Europe for contracts, and together with the PFF, we have approved on some of the signings.”
Most notable of the signings was Amani Aguinaldo, who plays as a Defender in the national football team. Aguinaldo was signed on a 2-year contract with the North American Premier League Soccer Top Tier club the Seattle Sounders earlier this year, while OJ Porteria signed a 1-year contract with the Dutch Tweede Divisie club Kozakken Boys. Lastly, Mike and Marco Ott, the twins who played Midfielder, had signed a 3-year contract with the Russian Football National League club Yenisey Krasnoyarsk. Despite that, the Philippine Football Federation remained confident that their football academies, along with the international experience gained by some of their players, would help them in any qualification matches they may play, either for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup in Australia, or the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. However, the Philippine national football team also participates in the AFC Suzuki Cup, though before Bojko’s rise to position as head coach, the Philippine team would often perform terribly in all the previous Suzuki Cup tournaments, placing either 14th place to 16th place. Bojko however, remains optimistic of the Philippines’ chances of improving on their record in the tournament.
“Every tournament the Philippines has played in, resulted in a terrible placing for us, and this has been going on for years. Under Coach Bojko, I think we will have a slightly better chance. He has us running around ten laps to build our stamina, which was a key factor in why we often lost the matches. I honestly think with his Coach Carter-style approach to the development of our team, we may also play better,” says Amani Aguinaldo, when asked about Bojko’s coaching style, while referencing a similar coaching style by famous high school basketball coack Ken Carter, who employs a strict training regimen for his players. “Mr. Bojko would often tell us that all of the football players in Croatia would often run around fifteen laps on the football field in order to get used to running for long periods of time.”
One of the matches that the Philippines has been invited in is the upcoming 2014 Kirin Cup that is to take place in Japan, with the host nation taking part, the Philippines being invited, as well as Canada and Chile. The 2013 Kirin Cup played in Japan last year saw only three teams taking part: Japan, Scotland, and Croatia, with the Croatian football team winning the Cup as well. Although the Philippine Football Federation criticized Bojko’s acceptance of the invitation to the Kirin Cup, he insisted that the entire football team needed further exposure to international competitions involving teams they have never played before. His statement rang true when the last time the Philippines played a match against a non-Asian team was in March of 2013, with the Philippines playing to a scoreless 0-0 draw with Latvia, in a friendly in Riga, Latvia. The match against Latvia was much better than the 8-0 forgettable drubbing they received by Yugoslavia.--- FRANCIS M, TO HOLD FIRST POST-TADIAR ELECTION VICTORY CONCERT WITH EXILED BARKADA RAP GROUP Manila Post May 27, 2016Kabankalan, FEDERAL CITY DISTRICT OF KABANKALAN – In appreciation of prominent Philippine diaspora-based hip hop group, Exiled Barkada, President-elect Loren Legarda invited both the hip hop group and leukemia cancer survivor Francis Magalona to perform in the first post-Tadiar election victory concert in the Philippines. Holding concerts in three locations: Kabankalan on June 3rd, Davao on June 8th, and finally in Manila on June 12th, just in time to celebrate Philippine Independence Day. Magalona, also known by his stage name as Francis M, was a leukemia survivor who had a surgery to cure himself from acute myelogenous leukemia, initially had difficulty paying for his hospital bill, but fans around the world who listened to his music had pitched in to donate their money to pay for his operation. Moreover, Exiled Barkada also held several fundraiser concerts throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand to cover the hospital bill as well.
“I appreciate the efforts made by both my fans and Exiled Barkada to help me pay for the hospital bill. If it were not for their hard work and determination, I would have surely died,” Magalona said during an interview with Australian entertainment media reporters in Adelaide back in 2009. “In return, I would be happy to participate in Exiled Barkada’s election concert to celebrate the downfall of Major General Tadiar.”
Magalona was conscripted during the Philippine Civil War, especially in the first stages of the conflict when he joined the pro-Aquino faction of the Philippine Constabulary and took part in the defense of Tarlac and Nueva Ecija before sustaining injuries from former General Ver’s offensive in Operation: Miranda. However, unlike the other former pro-Aquino soldiers who defected to the Tadiar dictatorship, Magalona, and another conscript named Andrew Espiritu (also known by his stage name as Andrew E) had opted to file for political asylum in the Australian Embassy, resulting in their exile to Australia, where they currently reside. While the two ex-conscripts had collaborated on their hip hop project, other singers and rappers had opted for a solo career in other countries. One of the most famous Filipino celebrities who lived overseas was prominent singer/actress Ana Padilla (known by her stage name as Karylle), who along with her mother, Zsa Zsa Padilla, had first moved to Japan, where they temporarily resided, before moving to Vladivostok, Russia and finally, Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1996. Karylle is best known in Bulgaria for her songs, mostly in English before she learned Bulgarian to sing and write songs in Bulgarian. Her first movie career was the Bulgarian version of the popular American sitcom Seinfeld, called “Traykov”, which she played a minor character before being promoted to major cast. In addition, Karylle also auditioned for a role in A Song of Ice and Fire for the role of Jeyne Westerling, before being declined the role in favor of Beren Saat, though Karylle’s performance in ‘Traykov’ was enough for the director of A Song of Ice and Fire to cast her as a minor Norvoshi merchant noblewoman. In addition, her marriage to fellow actor Stanislav Yanevski was a major bombshell in Bulgarian celebrity news, as Yanevski also had a breakout role in ‘Traykov’ before also being casted on A Song of Ice and Fire as Anders Yronwood.
In addition, several other Filipino celebrities are set to attend the election victory to symbolize the end of their exile from the land of their birth. Most prominent of them are Nora Aunor, who is well known in the United States for her role in ‘The Grand Chessboard’ as US Supreme Judge Isidora Sandoval, and Lorna Tolentino, who is famous for her role as producer and director of several Canadian and Australian movies involving other Filipino actors and actresses. The election victory concert tickets will be sold for PHP 2,700, making it the most expensive ticket price in the Philippines. In addition, several TV channels will cover the election concert live, and foreign politicians are also invited to the Philippines to celebrate President-elect Legarda’s victory.--- 2004 NFL DRAFT ROCKED BY SURPRISE PICKS AND LAST-MINUTE TRADES; DENVER, ATLANTA, SET TO GAIN LARGE NUMBER OF DRAFT PICKS ESPN April 24-25, 2004 New York City, NEW YORK – The 2004 NFL Draft was nothing like the previous NFL Draft of earlier years, although the news that Eugene Amano is included in the draft had not garnered enough interest as other players, although Travis Lulay is also rumored to be drafted in either the Second Round or the Third Round. To the surprise of the entire NFL, Cleveland would trade their first-round selection to Pittsburgh for their fifth, sixth and seventh round selections. Pittsburgh would use the newly acquired first round, 6th pick selection to draft Roy Williams of the University of Texas, while Cleveland would go on to select Roderick Green (DE) as the 145th pick, 5th round overall, Corey Williams (DT) as the 177th pick, 6th round overall (in addition to their 176th pick, 6th round overall, which they used to select Marko Cavka), and in the 7th round, they selected Eugene Amano (G) as their 212th pick. In addition, Pittsburgh would also pull a similar scenario to Cleveland, trading their first-round pick to Atlanta for their 3rd, 5th, and 6th round picks. Atlanta would have two 1st round draft picks to choose, but opted to trade them to Denver for the 2005 2nd, 3rd and 5th round draft picks. Denver in turn, would select Ben Roethlisberger (QB) as their 1st round, 8th pick overall, and in the 29th pick overall, the Broncos would end up choosing Igor Olshansky (DT). Atlanta in turn, would have the 11th, 75th, 145th and 194th picks, which they would select J.P. Losman (QB), Chris Cooley (TE), Claude Harriott (DE) and Travis Lulay (QB), respectively. Ricky Foley of York University would eventually be drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals as their 218th draft pick, 7th round overall.
In the upcoming 2004 NFL Season, there were some discussions on the recent announcement that the NFL is seeking to expand into Canada, which was not surprising, given the CFL's declaration of bankruptcy and the sudden collapse of the CFL teams. Within the NFL however, the top team that is the center of the relocation rumors is the Buffalo Bills. Cincinnati Bengals is also another possible candidate, although surprisingly, Oakland is also slated for relocation talks. Finally, Edward Rogers III and Francesco Aquilini were also rumored to be in negotiations with the Bills and Raiders respectively on their possible purchase and relocation to Toronto and Vancouver, respectively. As BC Place has a field that currently holds a football match for the defunct CFL, the adjustment of its field to match NFL rules would be simple. Unfortunately, the bankruptcy of the CFL meant that the football market in Canada has taken a significant hit, meaning that the NFL can take advantage of the Canadian market's demand for an NFL franchise to be established in Canada, with Toronto being the front runner, followed by Vancouver.
Eli Manning (left) is drafted 1st round, 1st pick overall, by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Standing beside him is Ben Roethlisberger (right), who is eventually selected as the 1st round, 8th pick overall, by the Denver Broncos.--- A/N: So there will be something called the Spruance Award being awarded this year. Don't know if this TL could be nominated for contender, though I don't know the rules of it all.

In the Philippines, Ye Fei is honored by the people of where he was born. The DFA also honors him for being a pioneer of normalizing PH-China relations. This was before the South China Sea disputes in the 1990s.

Yeah, and given that TTL's Tadiar is the main star villain here, he would initially be cautious about Ye Fei. After all, Tadiar might be backed by the Americans, although TTL's Spratly Islands dispute will change his view of Ye Fei gradually.
What he might do first would be to follow a similar route to OTL Cory and invite him into the Philippines first for some diplomatic mission. Actually, I might even throw in the OTL scenario into TTL’s civil war scenario where the US, China and possibly the Soviet Union play a role in a second attempt at reconciliation between Cory and Tadiar, but after that is when we truly begin to see Tadiar the Villain.

Chapter Seventeen: A Peace with Disgrace for our Time Excerpts from “A Nation in Mourning” By: Arturo Tolentino Atlas Publishing, published 2002
Chapter Thirteen: Dead Weight The aftermath of General Ver’s brutal offensive against what remained of President Aquino’s tattered army was clear to see; most of the troops had lost their morale and surrendered to the so-called ‘victorious’ troops commanded by General Ver himself. However, he gave strict orders for the pro-Aquino troops who surrendered to his own forces to be stripped of their weapons, rank badges and even their name tags, before proceeding to massacre them in such fashion that even Tadiar would not approve. In contrast, Tadiar showed mercy to any soldier who surrendered, whether they were from the Aquino or the Marcos/Ver faction, feeding and giving them medical attention before asking them to defect from their respective armies to his side. News of Tadiar’s merciful treatment of enemy soldiers had resulted in several regiments who fought for President Aquino to surrender to Tadiar instead of Ver, giving him more credibility in the eyes of the world.
Tadiar’s second chance to make an impression was not lost on President Aquino and Colonel Honasan, as they dismissed his acts of mercy as propaganda. Yet the stark reality that faced her army was staring in front of them, as more defections and mutinies are occurring at an alarming rate. Her administration was so desperate that she sent Vice President Salvador Laurel to Kabankalan, to negotiate a truce with Brigadier General Tadiar’s faction. Tadiar, to everyone’s surprise, did not send either Doromal or Aromin to negotiate with the Aquino administration. No, that job fell to me, and I was eager to show Tadiar and his crew that civilians would still have a role in his future administration, should he run for President. In contrast to the last time I talked to Vice President Laurel, he was trying to ask me to turn Tadiar in to face justice from Cory’s government. Now, the tables have turned, and it is he who is now begging me to go help fix President Aquino’s problem.
“Our administration is weakened by the actions of General Ver. The armed forces are broken beyond repair, and the communists are growing stronger in Luzon. Moreover, President Aquino has officially asked President Reagan for help with the additional supplying of military hardware for her forces. Many of the military leaders are now talking about joining forces with you now, but Colonel Honasan refused to even consider joining with you,” Laurel told me while sipping some coffee and eating breakfast. “I need your help now, more than ever.”
I snorted. “Like the help you wanted with me regarding the turning in of Tadiar to President Aquino?”
“I know you are still sore about that, but that was then. We are facing the possibility of a military dictatorship under General Ver, and let me be honest with you, Arturo,” Laurel continued to speak. “Marcos will die at some point this year or the next. His health has worsened, and he already had two strokes since the civil war began.”
“In that case, you and President Aquino have to meet Brigadier General Tadiar to discuss this. I am just Tadiar’s dead weight tag-along, and I have no position in his group,” I replied back angrily. “In addition, the meeting with Nur Misuari must take place, because we need the ceasefire with the MNLF, so we can concentrate on fighting the New People’s Army.”
“About them.” Laurel fidgeted around the table, waiting to see if someone was eavesdropping on their conversation. “There is a man calling himself Kumander Dante, who has officially taken over the New People’s Army, and both Benito and Wilma Tiamzon have taken over the Communist Party of the Philippines. It is also worth noting that Filemon Lagman has taken over the National Democratic Front as well, though I heard from Major Doromal who was talking to one of the officers who was stationed in Davao that the NDF had recruited a new member whose mother was recently killed by the Alsa Masa due to mistaken identity.”
“Really? Who was killed?” I asked again, not really caring about dead politicians at this point.
“Soledad Roa. Her son has joined the NDF and was even rumored to have enlisted in the NPA. Also, he has recruited into his little unit some prisoner from Davao named Felipe Pugoy*, who along with his friends from the Davao Penal Colony, have been given military training by Kumander Dante in forming self-defense units that will protect the communes that the NPA were supposedly forming, as well as protecting left-wing politicians from Alsa Masa and your friend Tadiar.”
Although we did not discuss any more politics for the rest of the day, I returned to the makeshift military base, where Tadiar and the rest of his hastily formed General Staff were holding a meeting. I waited outside the door, with the two guards standing there, a captured Type 56 assault rifle taken from the dead NPA soldiers the Alsa Masa had presumably executed on the hands of the guards. However, the door opened to reveal an unfamiliar face staring at me, though he beckoned for me to join in the meeting. I had a terrible feeling what Tadiar wanted to talk to me about, since my conversation with Vice President Laurel was not a secret that either side was going to keep, but to my surprise, six more junior officers turned their heads towards me and beckoned for me to sit down.
“You might as well hear this from me, because I am not surprised if President Aquino has already mentioned it,” Tadiar spoke first. “She is asking President Reagan for military assistance in stopping General Ver from winning the war. Her army is already at the breaking point, as the remaining naval vessels and aircraft under her control have already sworn their allegiance to us.”
“That is not surprising. The second attack on the Calamian Islands chain was short, since the loyalists have already run out of supplies,” I replied, but Major Doromal held his hand up.
“I have also received a report from Vice President Laurel that the Reagan administration is going to call for both President Aquino and I to come to an agreement for a ceasefire, to unite our two forces against General Ver. Moreover, President Aquino has also requested additional mediators from China and the Soviet Union for their help with the negotiations for the ceasefire,” Doromal told us, but I shook my head in disbelief.
“The Americans would never allow the Chinese and Soviets to get involved in our affairs,” I scoffed, but Tadiar merely laughed at me.
“President Aquino has insisted that a Chinese representative would be sent to represent China, and with Reagan and Vice President Bush in the middle of a domestic turmoil, the US State Department will be too busy to notice. However, they are sending George Schultz as the American representative, and it was Schultz himself who told Reagan to call Premier Gorbachev, so he can send a Soviet representative. What no one here knows was that the Soviets had attempted to court the Marcos government during EDSA Uno, but failed to do so,” Tadiar replied while opening a folder. “President Subianto of Indonesia will send a representative for the talks as well, since he is interested in the situation in Mindanao, and the Japanese are planning to send a delegate.”
I gasped in horror at the sudden surprise Tadiar had sent me. “General, having both the Chinese and Japanese involved in our civil war is political suicide!”
“How so?” Major Aromin asked back.
“Our people fear the Chinese communists, and we do not want to be seen behaving like Makapili traitors when it comes to the Japanese! Some of our elder relatives have lived throughout the Japanese occupation!” I replied angrily. “To have them involved would mean the political death of those who are involved.”
“That is, if the Japanese accept,” Tadiar replied coolly. “They declined due to prior commitments. Moreover, President Aquino already has someone in mind when it comes to choosing the Chinese representative.”
“Who would that be?” Major Doromal asked back. Tadiar sighed and gave his answer.
“Someone named Ye Fei.”
--- PHILIPPINE NEGOTIATIONS FOR CEASEFIRE BETWEEN AQUINO ADMINISTRATION AND COUNCIL FOR NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY BEGIN, FOREIGN REPRESENTATIVES TO ACT AS MEDIATORS Manila Post December 6, 1987 Kabankalan, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – The negotiations for a ceasefire between President Aquino’s administration and the group calling itself the Council for National Sovereignty has begun, with four representatives from the United States, China, the Soviet Union, and Indonesia acting as mediators. The ceasefire negotiation comes at a time when the Aquino administration has formally asked the United States for military assistance against rebel soldiers fighting for the former Marcos dictatorship, while the Council for National Sovereignty, a newly created group consisting of officers loyal to Brigadier General Artemio Tadiar, had invited Nur Misuari, the leader of the Moro National Liberation Front, as another negotiating party with full intention to negotiate a ceasefire between the Aquino government and the Moro secessionist rebels, with Tadiar providing political support for Misuari’s proposal.
“It is a rare honor for me to come to the land of my birth as a representative of my adopted country, in order to take part in the peace summit as well,” says Ye Fei, who was chosen by President Aquino to take part in the peace summit as China’s representative. “With my help, as well as the help of both Mr. Schultz and Comrade Representative Bessmertnykh, we hope to establish a lasting peace between the opposing camps.”
The peace summit began with the official talks of a ceasefire between the Aquino administration, the Tadiar-led CNS and the MNLF, in which Tadiar himself brought out the terms he negotiated with Misuari, regarding the proposed territorial adjustments for the proposed creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Province, as well as other terms for cultural and political autonomy for the BAP. Indonesia’s chosen representative for the peace summit, Indonesian Foreign Minister Mochtar Kusumaatmadja, had stressed the importance of stopping the conflict in Mindanao as a requirement for the return of refugees who are currently safe in Indonesian refugee camps at northern Sulawesi. Although President Aquino hesitated in accepting Misuari’s proposal, she ultimately considered it necessary. Next was the main event, the ceasefire between the Aquino administration and the CNS. It was former Vice President Arturo Tolentino who proposed the merger of the two armies representing both sides, and the replacement of Juan Ponce Enrile as Defense Minister with Tadiar that caused outrage from Colonel Gregorio Honasan, who still referred to Tadiar by his previous rank (his promotion was not recognized by either the Marcos-Ver or Aquino faction) and dismissed it outright. To everyone’s shock and horror, Major Edgardo Doromal proposed a Joint General Staff for the sole purpose of conducting the war effort. Finally, the agreement was made regarding the ceasefire, but fell short of naming Tadiar as Defense Minister. Instead, Tadiar would be made Deputy Minister of National Defense (a newly created office) who will be serving under Juan Ponce Enrile. In addition, Defense Minister Enrile will officially recognize the promotion of Tadiar to Brigadier General, but also promoted Gregorio Honasan to Brigadier General for his service and actions during the civil war, just to appease the Aquino administration.
“With our forces united, General Ver will no longer be able to claim easy victories as he used to. Moreover, the Americans have agreed to send some of their weapons to us, while the Soviets and Chinese would recognize the agreement made here. Finally, the Indonesians will send us the needed artillery pieces and assault rifles, plus much needed ammunition,” says Tadiar after the agreement was made, confident of the chances of his victory against General Ver. “Some of the weapons the Americans promised to ship to us are what we need so badly, especially to counter the M41 Walker Bulldogs that General Ver has under his command.”
--- LUZON OFFENSIVE BEGINS WITH MASSIVE AMPHIBIOUS LANDINGS IN BATANGAS, BATAAN AND QUEZON PROVINCES, PRO-MARCOS FORCES CAUGHT BY SURPRISE Manila Post February 22, 1988Lipa City, BATANGAS – In contrast to Operation: Miranda, the military offensive made by General Fabian Ver against the pro-Aquino positions in Luzon, Operation: Veritas began with a massive amphibious landing in the three provinces selected by Tadiar: Batangas, Bataan and Quezon provinces. Bypassing Marinduque Island, which was held by soldiers loyal to former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, the combined forces of the Aquino administration and newly appointed Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Tadiar managed to land at their assigned targets. In addition, the delivery of much needed ammunition and additional F-5 fighter planes to the Philippine Air Force had bolstered its fighting strength, with another addition of the OV-10 Bronco CAS planes. The operation also started with an aerial and naval bombardment of pro-Ver military positions around central Luzon.
Another force under the command of Major Edgardo Doromal, which was relocated to the province of Tarlac through the assistance of the Philippine Navy, had struck targets in Nueva Ecija, with Fort Magsaysay being the prime target for Major Doromal’s objective. In addition, a force under the command of Major Saulito Aromin had landed in southeastern Bicol, where the pro-Ver defenders had fiercely resisted the attack. The time gap between the Kabankalan Peace Agreement of 1987 and Operation: Veritas was necessary to allow the combined forces of the Aquino administration and Tadiar’s Council for National Sovereignty to retrain, re-equip and rest up before the offensive. Finally, the Reagan administration had kept their official recognition of the Aquino administration and called on General Ver to surrender and for the Marcos family to be taken into exile in Hawaii. However, Tadiar insisted on a fair trial for the former President, knowing that simply exiling them would keep much of his supporters around.
“As long as Ferdinand Marcos remains alive, his supporters will continue to cause trouble for the current administration. By putting him on trial for the crimes he committed against the Filipino people, we will be able to put behind us the most shameful chapter in our nation’s history,” says Major Doromal when asked about the plan regarding the Marcos family. “Let me make this clear: we will also hold new elections for the seat of Governor of Ilocos Norte until a new constitution will be written, or until we can make amendments to the current constitution.”--- “Juan Ponce Enrile is an old man, while I am still young. We need fresh blood to run this country, not any more gerontocrats with a questionable health condition. The shriveled-up housewife has been exposed as the weakling that she truly is, so it is only a matter of time before she is pushed aside. With the additional weapons we have acquired from the United States and Indonesia, we will be able to finish off the communists once and for all!” Brigadier General Tadiar to his junior officers, after the Philippine Civil War was over with the fall of Manila and the airstrike that killed the late former Defense Minister Fabian Ver.--- “Today, on February 25, 1988, General Fabian Ver, the mastermind behind the Second Marcos Dictatorship, was killed by an airstrike carried out by the 17th and 18th Attack Squadrons of the Philippine Air Force. He was briefing his junior subordinates in Fort Bonifacio when one of the fighter planes had dropped a bomb on the headquarters where he was in. With his death, some of the soldiers fighting for General Ver began to surrender to troops loyal to both the Aquino administration and Deputy Defense Minister Artemio Tadiar, with Brigadier General Gregorio Honasan overseeing the surrendering troops. The turning point in the fall of the Marcos restoration occurred when pro-Tadiar troops within the Special Forces Regiment and 1st Scout Ranger Regiment, now under the command of Brigadier General Felix Brawner Jr., had overwhelmed the garrison troops in Laoag, Ilocos Norte guarding former Governor of Ilocos Norte Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and recaptured him. Finally, Major Edgardo Doromal’s forces had recaptured Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija and recovered the corpses of the executed soldiers killed by General Ver’s troops during the early stages of the civil war, including former Lt. Gen. Marcelo Blando (he was posthumously promoted to Lieutenant General upon the recommendation of Juan Ponce Enrile and Artemio Tadiar)” Excerpts from the Banahaw Broadcasting Corporation evening news, February 25, 1988--- IT’S ALL OVER! MARCOS FAMILY CAPTURED! DEPUTY DEFENSE MINISTER TADIAR APPOINTS HONASAN AS JUDGE FOR TRIAL OF FORMER PRESIDENT MARCOS** Philippine Daily Inquirer March 8, 1988 Manila, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION – The conclusion of the Philippine Civil War that killed over 50,000 people within the last two years, is finally over, with the capture of former President Ferdinand Marcos, his wife Imelda, and his daughter Imee, by troops loyal to Deputy Defense Minister Artemio Tadiar, during the Marcos family’s attempted escape to Laoag, only to be caught by the soldiers guarding the checkpoint at the Santa Rita exit of the North Luzon Expressway. All the members of the Marcos family have been relocated to Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija, where they are joined by the 1st Scout Ranger and Special Forces Regiment under the command of BGen. Felix Brawler Jr., who replaced the posthumously promoted Lt. Gen. Marcelo Blando, who was killed by troops loyal to the late General Fabian Ver during the early stages of the Philippine Civil War. A tribunal will be held, with Gregorio Honasan appointed by Tadiar as the judge overseeing the trial of former President Marcos, while an unnamed lawyer representing the deposed dictator will take part in the trial as well.
“The time for former President Marcos’s trial is now. We need to show the world the true crimes of the Marcos regime to stop any future supporter of his regime from openly expressing themselves,” says Edgardo Doromal, who agreed to testify against the deposed dictator. “This is how we will also reconcile the political sides that have been at odds with each other, not the abrupt releasing of known terrorists and criminals into the streets.”
The capture of the Marcos family comes at a time when more soldiers who are fighting under the late dictator are beginning to surrender in droves, with the joint pro-Aquino/Tadiar armies marching into Manila, unopposed back in February 28th, after days of bitter fighting between both sides. In addition, the trial of former President Marcos is expected to be televised in front of international audience, with the American, Soviet and Chinese media channels being invited to Manila so they can broadcast the trial. Such an event would become one of the most televised criminal trials in the world since the Adolf Eichmann trial in Israel, when the Israeli court had televised the war crimes trial of known architect of the Holocaust, Adolf Eichmann. Many of the victims of the Marcos-era atrocities are volunteering to testify against the former dictator, but the number of volunteers is so large that former Regional Trial Court judge and Immigration Minister Miriam Defensor Santiago had to limit the number of witnesses that can qualify to testify.
“The amount of people who wanted to testify against the former dictator is large, which indicates the heinous behavior the former regime had displayed towards its victims. At the same time, the trial will take forever if we have too many people who want to testify,” comments Santiago after being asked about the excessive number of volunteers willing to testify. “However, we would have a better chance of a fair trial if someone else was appointed the judge who will oversee this trial, instead of a military leader.”
Cory Aquino meets her supporters in EDSA, three days after the airstrike that killed former Defense Minister Fabian Ver. The victory of the Aquino administration was not without controversy, as she was compelled by the United States to make common cause with Brigadier General Artemio Tadiar, who was appointed Deputy Defense Minister while serving under the actual current Defense Minister, Juan Ponce Enrile.--- * Felipe Pugoy is known as the mastermind of the OTL 1989 Davao Hostage Crisis. ** Based on the OTL headline.

And then, when will Tadiar go against Aquino? Not to spoil anything yet, but we will have a trial of former dictator Marcos to cover, before going for the real thing.
