Interesting demonstration of it's symbolism. Ironic that less than a century after being seen as a sign of reform and modernisation its banned because its seen as reactionary.  |

The History Guy - The submarine that sank a train: the U.S.S. Barb - episode 1 Having spent about half my navy career as a proud Tin Can Sailor subs are not my favorite type of ship. However, the Barb's last wartime CO has my admiration.
Admiral Eugene B. Fluckey USN (Bubble head ) is what I call "Some Kind of Sailor Man"!
5 war patrols, record number of tonnage sunk, zero deaths and no serious injuries to his crew.
“Serve your country well. Put more into life than you expect to get out of it,” Fluckey wrote to a new class of submariners in 1999. “Drive yourself and lead others. Make others feel good about themselves, they will outperform your expectations, and you will never lack for friends.”

Fascinating. Not sure whether he was a very brave mad, a lunatic or both. Definitely saved a lot of lives, especially with the push for seat-belts in cars.
Loved the line that there are only two models of humans, male and female and no expectation of an addition to that list. Also he gave us Murphy's Law. |
