HMS Sovereign of the Seas - naval history - 132
I had heard of her but hadn't realised how significant she was both politically in terms of her cost helping trigger the civil war - although Charles's stupidity and arrogance would very likely have brought that about sooner or later, and that her sheer size and strength of construction brought her and the navy such success for so long. Thanks.

Well that was an over-built ship if there ever was one but it seemed to serve her well in terms of the problems she overcome. Bloody huge for the time period and even without the canal being opened she would probably have become fairly obsolete as newer ships with more reliable engines became available.
Interesting tit-bit about the Anfield flagpole.

I-400 - naval history - 136 Love Drach's description of the history of ranged warfare at the start. Would watch a entire episode about the history of the far trowing rock if he presented it.
