Miss Snowplow..... 12:55 PM MST, July 22nd, 1966 Phoenix, AZ
Jackson & the production staff were looking for a replacement for Connie Cezon, who had left the TV Series in 1964 due to other acting opportunities, so she was looking over the pictures of many actresses, who would become a replacement character for Gertie at Perry's law office & kept going back glancing over the resume of Mary Ann Mobley, who had appeared in two episodes "The Case of the Blonde Bonanza" (December 17th, 1964) in Season 8 & "The Case of the Misguided Model" (April 24th, 1966) in Season 9. Jackson was also impressed by Mobley's resume & life experience....
Mary Ann Mobley was born on February 17th, 1937 in Biloxi, MS. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Mississippi. After her reign as Miss America in 1959, Mobley embarked on a career in both film & television. She signed a five-year contract with MGM. She made her first television appearances on "Be Our Guest" in 1960, followed by five appearances on "Burke's Law" from 1963 to 1965. In 1966, she was the female guest star on the first two-part episode of "Mission: Impossible", in the episode "Old Man Out." She went on to make multiple appearances on "Perry Mason", "Love", "American Style", & "Fantasy Island". She played a recurring role as Maggie McKinney Drummond on "Diff'rent Strokes" in the final season of the NBC series, having taken over the role from Dixie Carter. She also played Arnold's teacher on "Diff'rent Strokes" in the second season, episode 24. In Carter's later series, "Designing Women", Mobley guest-starred as Karen Delaporte, a snide head of an historical society who crossed swords with Carter's character, Julia Sugarbaker. She made two films with Elvis Presley in 1965: "Girl Happy" & "Harum Scarum."
She was given the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year---Actress in 1965. She was active in many charitable causes & was awarded the Oustanding Young Woman of the Year Award in 1966 by Lady Bird Johnson.
