Scotland remained independent, historically allied with nations like France, Aragon, and Norway. It depicts which of the official languages of Scotland is the primary one used at home as reported in the national census of 2020. The four official languages are Scottis, Erse, Norn, and Inglis, known as Scottish, Gaelic, Norish, and English by speakers of the final one. (I have this 'Kingdomof Burgundy' timeline where Mary of Burgundy, daughter of Charles the Bold marries Nicholas, eventual Duke of Lorraine, and thanks to the Lorrainer influence there's no conflicts withe the Old Swiss Confederacy and Charles the Bold does successfully get the Kingdom of burgundy under teh HRE that had been promised to him but reneged upon, and this maps is in the modern day of that ATL, maybe.) |

Map of the United States in 1785 in "La Piel de Toro Slumbers." Well I said I would post maps, just took awhile to actually make them.
That looks interesting and with a slightly better performance for the UK could easily have been the case. Going to be some interesting developments as unless the US can expand its going to be a lot more restricted in its capacities and expansion is unlikely to be easy unless and until its attempted when Britain is heavily tied down in a major war. Maintaining possession of Florida would also be a big boost as it provides a refuge for more loyalists to flee the new republic and also makes it probable that in another war with Spain New Orleans could be captured which would open up the Mississippi basin to traders and general shipping.
Think its likely there will be more wars in N America here but how they develop will be very important both for N America and the wider world.

The lore I came up with for this map is that Spain never joins the American Revolution in 1779 on America's side, so their performance is worse with only France's aid. I plan on making a sequel map set in 1815 or 1820 that expands on the concept. I see no discernable change from actual settlement patterns or economic drivers. The "barrier" assumes that the British can fortify a porous frontier. They tried that trick in the real history in the Ohio River Valley when they violated the peace treaty they signed in 1783. How did that work out for them? NOT TOO GOOD.   You see that geographic feature called the Great Lakes? It turns out that the British forgot that seapower is the key to control of the American frontier in the 1790s. So when the British aggressed and violated US sovereign territory they found themselves on the wrong end of the naval equation in 1813.  |

Actually Britain didn't. Here however the Americans can't send the army into what here is clearly British territory to clear the Indians from the land for an expansion of settlement.
If a strong US OTL 1812 failed in its bid to conquer Canada then a markedly weaker US here, without access to the logistical resources of the St Lawrence/Great Lakes have markedly less chance. Movement by water is much easier than by land, even after - let alone before as here - practical railways. More like goodbye American imperial expansion.  |

Actually Britain didn't. Here however the Americans can't send the army into what here is clearly British territory to clear the Indians from the land for an expansion of settlement.
