It seems strange that he came through so much conflict without being killed or crippled like so many others. Or simply if that admin error hadn't occurred and he had been sent back to Austria. So many opportunities for a radically different world.

So many What Ifs that could have happen, what if he was killed during the Great War, what if he joined the Austria-Hungary Army ore what if he was refused in joining the German Army.

Interesting. I knew there were plans for use of the I-400 class for an attack on the Panama canal and also of the Japanese bio-warfare operations but don't think I had heard plans for linking the two together. Suspect he's over-estimating the impact even if all 10 a/c had been able to make attacks and talk of the 2 I's making their way into the Atlantic seems rather extreme. Too many chances of something breaking down or simply them still being detected. If nothing else a/c returning to the subs are likely to be tracked and the subs attacked before they could take them on board.
The other factor of course is while it likely to cause a fair number of deaths and a lot of chaos and disruption its also going to really rile the US who at this time are already fire-bombing Japanese cities to ash. They could easily use bio-weapons themselves in far greater numbers and the already partly starved Japanese population are likely to suffer much worse. In this way its even possible that the war could end before nuclear weapons or Soviet intervention occurs but probably with markedly higher Japanese fatalities.

Well one thing i can see happening is that the Americans will have no problem in putting the emperor on trial even if it might cause problems in occupied Japan. Also checking Wikipedia article: Operation Cherry Blossoms at Night i read this: During the Battle of Iwo Jima, another biological attack was considered against the invading Americans. Pilot Shoichi Matsumoto later recounted how two gliders carrying pathogens were supposed to be towed over the battle and released, but the gliders that were supposed to take off from Mainland Japan to Matsumoto's airfield in Pingfang District in preparation for the attack never reached their destination. Now that would be a interesting what if.

Very interesting. Had read some suggestions that Japan might try using such weapons in opposing an invasion of Japan itself but not for Iwo Jima. It makes sense in one way as there is a strong concentration of US troops and there's less likelihood of infection spreading to the Japanese homeland. Of course assuming that the US realise what's happened from the sudden appearance of multiple virulent diseases on a small island then there would be hell to pay.
Of course since one of the proposed infections was anthrax a possible US response would be to use a lot of that against Japan, which could be very nasty. Especially given its so hard to eradicate.

American retaliation would be much worse. Expect all of Japan's farmlands to be burned with a liberal use of chemical and biological weapons on Japanese cities.

Very interesting. Never thought of the origins of the mine detector so a surprise it was only developed during the war itself. Another great bonus from the Poles who despite their early defeat as an independent state proved valiant and valuable allies in WWII but unfortunately got shafted afterwards due to the Soviets.

Always interesting to hear that when somebody creates something, somebody else counters it and then the first person creates something to counter the counter.

Very interesting insight into the case and sounds like she was definitely hard done by. Glad she at least got out a lot better than many other people in the war.
