Think it is more about the name slave which can be associated with dated and racist stereotypes than what you say Zyobot .
Or rather there is one section of historical slavery that had become so taboo so it creates pressure to remove any reference to slavery at all, even through as you mention in a later post the purpose of the empire in Star Wars is to incite hostility towards it and its behaviour. If the empire is not evil and seen to be then what's the point of fighting it?
There is an old saying that those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it. By blanking out any reference to slavery or any other evil activity you make its future occurrence more likely and more difficult to oppose than if you keep knowledge of such things.
