Lordroel In the WWII entry for the BoB night attacks by the Luftwaffe there is a section I'm wondering if that 6 should be 60? Otherwise its quite small for a 'main objective' and the about would seem redundant. Thanks Steve
Seems you are right as always stevep , one of my trolls who works on the Battle of Britain section has provided me with the a second source i always use which is this: Battle of Britain, Wednesday October 9th 1940
It is a very good page to check if you have time.
Lordroel
Many thanks. Had a brief look and seems an excellent site.

Lordroel On the this day in history:
Cadwallon was Welsh and hence British in the meaning of the word at the time. However Penda_of_Mercia was an Angle like Edwin. He was actually the last powerful pagan king in England, at least before the Vikings arrived.
I was going to raise another point but on checking found out that the battle of Passchendaele can refer to the 3rd Battle of Ypres, but also to two separate 'battles' at Passchendaele that were part of that campaign. As such there is a 1st battle if Passchendaele, which I hadn't realised before.

I think you missed the 17th Oct for the WWII thread? It wasn't up yesterday but I thought it might have been delayed for some reason. Today the post for the 18th is up but the 17th is still missing.
Bloody for the merchant marine today and sounds like its going to get a hell of a lot worse, and this is before the RN can even escort convoys most of the way across the Atlantic.

Lordroel I think you have a typo in your WWII thread for today. You have:
Presuming that Hitler should be Petain?
Love the line about Germany's response to Mussolini's strop about Hitler's meetings with Franco and Petain - "He just could have, you know, called a florist and sent over some roses instead."

Lordroel On the WWII thread you have.
Looks like a word or two missing from the end, possibly heading toward his airfield.

Checking this source: No. 302 (Poznan) POLISH FIGHTER SQUADRONIt mentions: On October 25, F/Lt Jastrzebski failed to return from the operational sortie over the Channel. He left the formation at 24,000 feet and dived sharply toward France. The cause of it remained a mystery. Some speculated that he lost consciousness due to an interruption of the oxygen flow to the pilot’s mask. The next day, during a short skirmish with German fighters, Sgt Mazurkiewicz shot down 1 Me109 probably and S/Ldr Satchell damaged another one.So i think you are right about the airfield.

On the WWI thread you seem to have two pictures of the Russian cruiser ZEMCHUG. Slightly different wording accompanying the text but otherwise identical pictures as far as I can see.

On the WWII thread today you mentioned
Strictly speaking the Peloponnese is the region south of the Gulf of Corinth [and hence also south of Athens]. Technically a good proportion of it is also west of Athens but then so is much of western Greece, including the region where their currently fighting off the Italian attack so saying west could be a bit misleading.
I had thought until you mentioned it on this thread that initially Metaxas had refused direct British aid, i.e. the landing of troops as opposed to supplies and weapons because he was afraid it would prompt German intervention and it was only after his sudden death on 29-1-41 that his successor altered that stance. One of my favourite TLs actually relies a bit on that as it involves Britain by that time being so committed to a drive towards Tripoli that they don't get involved on mainland Greece which is occupied before that is completed. Have to revise that now through.
I hadn't realised how bloody the 1st happy time was for the merchant marine. A hell of a lot of losses and no real counter attack at this stage. I know the Germans lost a number of their top commanders in the next year fortunately so they weren't available when the US entry and lack of convoy defence allowed the 2nd one but that's still to come.
