lordroel , On today's WWI post you have the mention of Germany calling off the U boat campaign under US pressure but the heading for it is You do have a mention of events in the Black sea at the end of the post so I suspect this is just a typo. Steve
That would be a typo, will fix it.

When I was first in the Philippines, late 67 to roughly 75, there were still a lot of locals who had endured Japanese Occupation. Those folks I knew hated them with a vengeance. We in the USA used to get pretty indignant about "The Bataan Death March" and the consequent inhuman treatment of the POWs. Well the Filipino guests of the Empire of Japan had it a lot worse. You see there were 10,000 Americans and 66,000 Filipinos.

Truth to tell, I doubt most "Americans" ever heard of it.
Probably just as well. Keeping alive old hates is never a good thing. Today we, the Filipinos, the Vietnamese and the Japanese have a common interest to be allies against the PRC.
I think Lord Palmerston British Prime Minister, 1855–8, 1859–65 got it right.
"We have no eternal allies, and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow."

Not only that but of course the ~4 years of brutal occupation saw them suffer a lot as well. What the Germans did in eastern Europe is very similar to the actions of imperial Japan across much of eastern Asia.

And the Battle of the Philippines is not yet over.

Well two drawn out disasters ended today in the WWI thread. The agonizing siege of Kut and the stupid coup attempt in Dublin. Unfortunately the latter and the almost inevitable response by the authorities is to bring yet more suffering for Ireland for generations to come.

Would it have make any difference stevep if SS Libau and its cargo of 20,000 rifles, 1,000,000 rounds of ammunition, 10 machine guns, and explosives had manged to be unloaded and gotten into the possession of the Irish Citizen Army.

If they had got into the hands of the militants then the death toll in Dublin, and probably elsewhere in Ireland would have been a hell of a lot higher. Doubt it would have made a significant impact on the allied war effort although anti-British elements in the US might have used it to delay their entry into the war. Unlikely to make much difference in that however as Berlin seemed determined to pick a fight with the US with its terrorist actions, USW and the Zimmerman Telegraph.
Ironically I was actually thinking about it earlier today and wondering whether it might have caused enough deaths and destruction that the initial reaction inside Ireland against the militants might have been stronger and longer lasting. Possibly with a higher level of destruction and probably most of the ring-leaders dying in the extended fighting the reaction of the authorities afterwards might not have been as strong - as there would have been less leaders to face trial and execution - and you could see this handled by civilian officials rather than martial law. Its possible that could have so discredited the hard liners that you don't get the same level of unrest later on and more moderate leaders such as Redmond stay dominant. You could then see Home Rule implemented and quite possibly no partition.

On today's WWI post you have:
a) Do you mean Greece instead of France here?
b) You may have posted this before as it definitely rings a bell.
On the later point The Greek government protested these raids, arguing they would lead to reprisals against the Greek population in Turkey, but the raids continued nonetheless, though de Robeck dispatched some of the captured livestock for the relief of Greek refugees.
I would suspect the Greek government would be right. Given how xenophobia and brutal - not to say murderous - the Young Turk regime was I suspect they will use any excuse to target the substantial Greek minority in Anatolia as they did later.

On point A, have fixed it, this brings me to point B, seems my troll has posted the Macedonian front: Russians, Italians Land at Salonika piece to early, should be posted in August of 1916 and not April 1916, will have to remove it as the events have not happen yet.

Will fix it. Also a question, going to have in many update where there are only photos related to the days in question, is that a problem if there are only photos and their text.

Not really for me. I would prefer some background but it's what you can get. Possibly leave out some of the photos if your getting too many inflating the post length?

Well the Photos will be added to the regular daily updates, a lot of them will be related to the Pacific War and will be about ships, the captions they have give plenty of information. One Example would be the Coral Sea Battle, there are more pictures than i can add to it.
