Today as I posted on the Philippines thread, my country commemorates on the 79th anniversary of the Fall of Bataan by honoring heroes of the past and present. REPLAY | Commemoration ng 79th anniversary ng Araw ng Kagitingan sa BataanAraw ng Kagitingan: (Day of Valor Bataan Day) | Bataan Death MarchPhoto: Propaganda poster depicting the Philippine resistance movementRead more: THE FALL OF BATAAN
In Australia, President Quezon made his first public statement since arriving Australia, summarized by the press as pledging the Philippines to the Allied cause, and which paid a “glowing tribute” to the valor of Filipino troops who fought side by side with the Americans. Every Filipino who fought on Bataan will be a national hero, he said; and pointed out that resistance continued in other parts of the country. For his part, Field Marshal MacArthur read a statement to reporters, following the fall of Bataan: “The Bataan Force went out as it would have wished, fighting to the end its flickering, forlorn hope. No army has done so much with so little, and nothing became it more than its last hour of trial and agony. To the weeping mothers of its dead, I can only say that the sacrifice and halo of Jesus of Nazareth has descended upon their sons, and that God will take them unto Himself.”
Halfway through the “Voice of Freedom” radio broadcast, Third Lieutenant Reyes read, “Bataan has fallen, but the spirit that made it stand—a beacon to all the liberty-loving peoples of the world—cannot fall!”Thanks for posting this gillan1220 . The Bataan Provincial Governor, the Japanese ambassador to the Philippines, the Charge de Affairs of the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, and President Rodrigo Duterte made pre-recorded speeches that was played at the end of the ceremony.

On WWII post today:
That sounds like a pretty crowded trawler, especially since such ships were almost certainly smaller than big factory trawlers would be nowadays.

ON WWI I could have sworn I posted this yesterday but seem to have failed.
On the 9th you had:
and on the 10th:
There seems to be some uncertainty over whether Eugene was older or younger?
Today I noticed:
You have a couple of typos with the year split up plus also I assume that 2nd point should be say the 12th March? Not sure what is being amalgamated at the end of the paragraph?

On today's WWII post you have for Burma
Isn't there a bit of a contradiction here? The 1st implies that the Japanese weren't greatly hindered by the demolitions while the 2nd suggests it prevented any oil being extracted for a year.

You had this sunk the previous day as well. Assuming it was probably during the night and the exact timing is uncertain so its got an entry both days?

On today's WWI post you have:
If that's Newport News in the US as I assume then it seems odd exporting manure across the Atlantic? If anything I would have thought with the food crisis that if any shipments they would be going the other way.
The tragic loss of Kut is finally occurring. Was amazed that it held out that long. So many attempts but not the organisation and resources. Had read in the past that Townshend was too rash in not retiring before he was besieged but sounds like that is less than accurate.

Definitely in WWI and by this stage but given the size of the US agricultural industry it does seem rather like sending coals to Newcastle. [For those non-Brits a famous phase in the UK since the NE of England around Newcastle was a major exporter of coal].

According to this site: SS Parisiana (+1916) she was not only transporting manure but also Fuller Earth.

lordroel , On today's WWI post you have the mention of Germany calling off the U boat campaign under US pressure but the heading for it is You do have a mention of events in the Black sea at the end of the post so I suspect this is just a typo.
