It simply seems as if their understanding of warfare is from computer games or some other less than optimal source. It all centres on the idea of both parties fighting fair, fighting rationally and fighting without commitments elsewhere. Nuclear weapons mean that a nuclear-armed state can no longer be defeated in the old terms, although they can be destroyed. At least the early 2000s chestnut about the Chinese simply using their share of US debt to make them do whatever it wanted. If we go further, those video games and movies do have consultants and sources to make their own stories somehow "plausible".

To a degree but their still games and meant to be simplified and fun. You will never really get a game where the full consequences of war are detailed, both because it would be too complex and because it wouldn't sell as it wouldn't be entertaining.

Okay, so I need some suggestions: The above ORBAT is for a NATO-Russian Cold War reigniting circa 2008 after the invasion of Georgia. I need another division for the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. At present, it has the two divisions of the British Army and the multinational NATO Airmobile Division. I need a fourth division. Any ideas as to what country or countries this division could come from? I want to avoid the Germans, as their forces would all be under I German-Dutch Corps ITTL, while all Polish forces are under Multinational Corps Northeast. The Italian divisions are tapped for Southern Europe, and I'm not sure the Canadians could really field a full combat division despite being able to do so on paper. The US forces are already all under I, III, V & XVIII Airborne Corps.
Any ideas?

I would have said the Danish Division - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_Division - but they are under the Multinational Corps Northeast. Perhaps a Spanish Division with their HQ and attachments from NATO countries such as Belgium, Canada and Portugal? The only other thing I can think of is for one of the US Army divisions to be under the ARRC as they usually are though you have them under national command.

• 13th Dutch Air Defence Battery (12x NASAMS-2 & 24x FIM-92)
That is twice the OTL size of the 13th Dutch Air Defence Battery if i read this correctly as in OTL we have 2 batteries, each consisting of 1 fire-control center, 1 radar and 3 launchers.

Hmm, I'm thinking I may go with the Danish Division, switching them out for a German unit or a multinational division from Eastern Europe in the Multinational Corps Northeast. My other option is to go with the Spanish division as you say; two Spanish brigades - one heavy and one airborne or cavalry - plus the Portuguese rapid reaction brigade. As for the rest of NATO, I'm thinking the Multinational Corps Northeast would command the four Polish divisions, the multinational brigade in the Baltics, and either the Danish division if it's not under AARC, or a Czech-Hungarian-Slovak division. I German-Dutch Corps would have the German 1st Panzer, 10th & 13th Panzergrenadier Divisions, and the Dutch 13th Light & 43rd Mechanised Brigades would go to reinforce the understrength German formations. V US Corps could be activated in Germany.

To be honest, it is only a tiny bit larger than as it was in OTL Jan 1st 1990. The RAF here has no Tornado IDS': instead it operates F-111Fs. The Tornado ADV doesn't exist and instead the RAF has F-15 Eagles. The biggest upgrade in striking power are the two squadrons of B-1B Lancers. Costly and rolled for cruise missile strikes though retaining bombing capability. Otherwise, I've just taken what the RAF had in OTL and changed it here to accommodate that. Additionally, the RAF has many more AWACS aircraft, part replacing the joint NATO fleet.
