The Star Trek movies with the original cast had different uniforms. But they were all the same color. In The Motion Picture, they were all gray. Then in Star Treks 2-6, they were all red. But what if they kept the colors of the uniforms from the original series? So Kirk, Chekov and Sulu wear yellow uniforms. Spock and McCoy were blue ones. But Scotty and Uhura still wear red ones. And this also applies to all background extras as well. Their uniform colors all vary from red to yellow and blue. I wish they had done that with the uniforms in the movies. Have merged you thread into the Miscellaneous Star Trek Thread.

Aside: Is it just me or do the uniforms from the movie era look more militaristic (not to mention uncomfortable in warm climates). Also the original command uniforms were actually green, the looked gold on TV.

And "The Next Generation" premiered in 1987. That was the first Star Trek series I ever watched. So as you can probably imagine, I got used to their uniform colors with red being for command and yellow being for operations.

I came up with this idea last night. What if on TNG, "The Best Of Both Worlds" was a 4-part episode instead of only 2? Parts 1 and 2 are the 3rd season finale and Parts 3 and 4 are the 4th season premiere.
Part 1: The Enterprise responds to a distress call from a planet that says they're under attack and discovers it was the Borg and then has a battle with them. They pick up another distress call from another planet saying they're under attack and find out it was the Borg again. In the final scene, the Enterprise finally engages the Borg. And the last line is "Mr. Worf, dispatch a subspace message to Admiral Hanson. We have engaged the Borg." Then we see the reactions of the bridge crew. They're clearly nervous and have chills down their spines with the exception of Data, of course. Then there's a close up of Picard's face and then the screen goes black and "To Be Continued..." appears onscreen.
Part 2: The Enterprise has another encounter with the Borg ship and they kidnap Picard. The last scene is still Picard, now Locutus of Borg introducing himself and saying the Enterprise crew will service them. Then Riker says "Mr. Worf, fire."
Part 3: We actually get to see the Battle of Wolf 359. The crew rescues Picard at the end.
Part 4: The Borg finally reach Earth and we see the reactions of the people on Earth. They become terrified. Starfleet declares a State of Emergency. Meanwhile, the Enterprise has to gain access to Picard, learn his knowledge of the Borg, change him back to human and get those implants out once and for all.
What doesn't change is the first and last scenes: The first scene in the transporter room where Riker asks Worf if they've heard anything from the surface. But Worf says there haven't been any communications from the planet for over 12 hours. Then O'Brien beams them down and discovers the colony's been obliterated.
The last scene in Picard's ready room where he's back to normal, has bandages on the side of his head. He's about to have a sip of his tea (Earl Grey, hot), but then pauses and looks out the window realizing how close he came to his planet's destruction.
