I still think she will stay in Austria, maybe if she like here male version likes art, go to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from (problem is she can only go from 1920 onward when women were first admitted to the Academy). As we all know, the male Hitler in 1907 and 1908 was twice denied admission to the drawing class. Well, if Adele is kept out of the wider world of politics until 1920, it's possible that she could have the time to refine her style of painting a bit and be more readily accepted into the AFAV when they do start accepting women. That said, I really keep having this strange picture in my head. Adele Hitler, rebellious young woman, living as a bohemian on the streets of Vienna. She wears trousers and causes quite a public scandal. She reads the works of Nietzche and Engels, while paying little heed to either. She paints to scrape out a living, and generally lives as she pleases. She's in Vienna, cosmopolitan, liberal Vienna, far from the rural village where her father terrorized her. Miss Hitler is the very image of the modern, "liberated woman", and loving every minute of it. |

Why do you think she will stay in Austria? As I understand it Adolf left in part because of his bad relations with his father, who identified strongly with Austria and hence the alienated young man switched his loyalty to the newer German empire. [Although there are rumours he tried to join the Austrian army before he joined the Bavarian one.] I could see Adele being more likely to stay if her relations with her father were better, or because she was female, she was less able to leave but it could go either way.
One other difference is that his mother seemed to have very much doted on the young Adolf but possibly she wouldn't have treated a female child the same way? In which case you could have a reversal of OTL with Adele being very much daddy's favourite but frosty relations with her mother?

I can't see Adele's childhood being easy if she doesn't like long hair and dresses and being expected to look pretty. Not in a rural Austro-Hungarian village at the turn of the 20th century. More reason for Adele to want to escape to Vienna?

Seems voting right for women in Austria was given in 1918, she could go into politics there. |
