Greetings, people of 1980. My name is Zyobot, I'm a time traveler who's come from the 21st Century.
So much has happened in the decades since your time, much of it totally unexpected. Feel free to ask about the future, I'll reply back to you as soon as possible (or ASAP).

Hello Mister Zyobot, a question, does the Soviet Union still exist. As unbelievable as this will sound, NO. It collapsed in 1991, and communism's hold over Eastern Europe with it.
Russia's no longer socialist, but it's regressed since then. Rather, it exists as a crony capitalistic power dominated by billionaire oligarchs and a former KGB Agent who serves as their head-of-state.

Wait it collapse, no global war, no Soviet invasion of Europe, next you tell me the two Germanies reunited.

World War Three has yet to happen, the Soviets didn't invade Europe, and yes: the two Germanies united into a Federal Republic that now leads the EU (or European Union). Oh, and the Berlin Wall came down on November 9, 1989.

The North's still a totalitarian hellhole ruled by the Kims, while the South is a dynamical, technologically advanced capitalist nation. And no, there's been no second Korean War yet.

But that is impossible, without any Soviet support there is no way that a communist country can survive, next you tell me that Fidel Castro still rules Cuba.

Both Cuba and North Korea are still communist. The DPRK's being (reluctantly) propped up by China, presumably as a buffer against the South. Cuba's in pretty poor shape, economically speaking. Ol' Fidel died in 2016; his brother Raul has taken over and lead the Island since then. China, however, is no longer the kind that you're used to hearing about. It's nominally communist, but economically capitalist--and now the second richest country in the world. A majority of US manufacturing is done there, too. Albeit, a lot of their success stems from stealing American research and technology secrets. Some people think that China will surpass the United States in a few decades; that's how much they've transformed since 1980. Did I mention that it's advancing supercomputers, AI and building artificial islands in the Pacific?

See, computer and information technology have utterly transformed since 1980. Starting in the 1990s, this insanely cool thing called the "internet", with its WWW (World Wide Web) and all, have become mainstream. It's this global network of interconnected computers that allows billions of users to communicate and freely exchange information with one another. Nowadays, the Average Joe can find--as well as contribute--just about whatever content s/he wants to the internet; websites, news, photos, videos, games, stocks, social media and all the knowledge in the world is instantly, perpetually available at one's fingertips. Just type a topic in the searchbar (we call that Googling), and you get an endless supply of results. Just. Like. That.
We have a number of technologies we use to access the internet. Chief among them are personal computers (desktops and laptops), as well as smart devices like tablets and smartphones. Regarding that last example, handheld cell phones have also become popular by my day. I'll link to some pictures of what I've described, so that you get the idea.
It's all complicated and hyper-addicting, I won't lie. Fake news, scams, data-stealing and copyright infringement of every sort proliferate the internet, introducing its own problems to the times that I live in. But people have been concerned about technological change forever; 1800s Romanticists criticized Industrialization, 20th Century elders disliked cars, radio and TV, etcetera. Once I grow old and am living in the later decades of the 21st Century, my peers will feel the same way.
