I’ve got one last 1969 bit on British armament/arms procurement in 1969 and then my collated yearly notes, but while I get that together, some bits on what is coming in 1970:
- Armistice in Vietnam: This leads to a a very different early 1970s without a large scale war and all the associated political, economic and cultural effects thereof - Subsequent shift to peace: Though a large force will remain in South Vietnam for the time being, it is much reduced from a combat peak. I’m interested in the consequences of ~2 million US soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen coming home - Return of Orion 5 and Kosmos from the outer solar system - Computers continue to take off - Strategic arms talks advance - The Return of the King hits theatres, but faces competition from The Battle of Britain… - A shift in Africa - The significance of Tibet (rivers) - An Arab change - American cars continue a certain path of evolution - A World Cup triumph - Evel Knievel jumps the Grand Canyon

Yes, that is the exact meaning of the above. There is still trouble in Africa, but Vietnam comes to an end.

Yes. There hasn’t been a period on Earth without any war and Dark Earth is similar.
What is still ongoing: - Borneo Confrontation and accompanying ‘mini Cold Wars’ with Malaya and Australia - Portuguese Colonial War - Congo Civil War/Rhodesian Bush War - Some low intensity conflicts in South America and the Philippines - Something in Jordan… - West African rebellions, civil wars and general goings on - Something broader in Africa

A zephyr of a preview:
January 1: USN, USAF and USSF aircraft, skyships and satellites begin an immediate massive search for the missing Enterprise, with Pacific Command raised to DEFCON 3 and Department of Magic wizards flying to the Pacific to assist. Whilst no leaks have occurred to civilian press or the general international community, the operation is detected by a Royal Navy cruiser and Soviet satellites; General Secretary Alekseyev declines to make the loss of the carrier public at this time and sends a guarded late night message offering help over the Hotline. January 2: USS Enterprise reappears 525nm south of Ascension Island, a little worse for wear, but with all aircraft and personnel unscathed, with the latter extremely disoriented and unclear as to what happened. Only a few pilots, the carrier’s captain and his senior officers have a different tale to tell upon making contact with USN top brass on Ascension that night, then latter having flown down to Ascension by hypersonic rocketplanes. The matter is immediately classified Top Secret/Majestic and the carrier is to proceed through Drake’s Passage to the South Pacific and then make for Hawaii.

How a carrier disappears near Wake Island in the Pacific and ends up in the South Atlantic isn’t fully explained then and there, but there will be enough clues…
