I watched the movie Deep Gold (2011) last Friday. It's an obscure film made by a foreign-owned studio based here in Cebu and was filmed in both Cebu and Palawan (which doubled as Leyte). Somehow enjoyable even with the cheesy lines and beauty models that have only a few experience in acting. Cinemas in the UK are back open again. Very limited choice, old films mostly being reshown.
I went to watch Taxi Driver last night despite seeing it many times before.

Yesterday I watched the police horror movie called Body Cam. The title is a reference to the body cameras police use so that there will be proof if foul play was involved in apprehending a suspect. It reminded me of the Black and Blue (as in this one, bad guys were after the good cop with the body cam footage) minus the horror element.
8/10 for the originality of the concept of switching the perspective from body cam to actual cameras.

Watched an old classic for the first time a few days ago, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. Richard Burton is embittered agent Alec Leamas, apparently down and out after a job in Berlin went wrong... but not for long. Claire Bloom plays Nancy Perry, an idealistic English Communist who ends up getting a fuller experience of East Germany than she expected. Peter van Eyck and Oskar Werner are the antagonists (or are they?) across the Iron Curtain.
It's a little slow to start with, but once the twists and turns begin, you're constantly guessing what each character's endgame really is. If Leamas is to be believed, though, they're all as despicable as each other - "Yesterday he was evil and my enemy. Today he is evil and my friend." Somewhat bleak in outlook, but still recommended.

Crazy how we have to watch F9 just to see the extended teaser. It's like EA charging us to get the exclusive content of their games. |
