I watched Without Remorse last night. Terrible, insult to the intelligence. They took the name of a fantastic book, the character name and a few events... and sh&t all over them. I knew it wouldn't be brilliant but it really was just crap.

Independence Day (1996) was on at the cinema here in the UK starting Friday night. I went to see it and it was the extended edition so quite long. I couldn't understand why it was being shown but then... lightbulb: dates.

One of the best AH films I have seen. I remember being so hyped up for its sequel Resurgence. So was I but it was trash. I walked out of the cinema because the second one was so bad. It was lucklaster yes. However, I do remember its marketing campaign was awesome. It came with an interactive War of 1996 map and other promotional videos. I was bummed out how easily they killed Will Smith's character and his wife. It also been criticized as Chinese Communist Party propaganda as the Moon Base is administered by the PRC. The ending implies a great intergalactic war between other alien races against the Harvesters of which the human race may lead. Sadly, I don't think there will be a sequel since Resurgence did not do well in the box office. On the other hand, I do remember when Resurgence was released, it came right in time for Brexit. So the pro-Brexit movement used the title Independence Day to refer to the referendum where the UK voted to leave the EU.

I saw The Senator last night. It trashed what was left of Ted Kennedy's reputation. I think that was deserved too because, even with dramatic license, the facts of the matter are quite enough. I didn't know though that it happened during the first moon landings, which, from what I can gather, made it less of a big deal at the time than it later became.

Watched Black Widow a couple nights ago. Interesting backstory, though the premise was rather “woke”, now that I think about it.

I went to see Old tonight at the cinema. It is a film by M. Night Shyamalan. Great idea, well shot but not very good overall. Every character was unlikeable. A bit of a disappointment despite the well done premise.

Absolutely fantastic film, saw it back when it came out. Here in the US it was released under the title Chappaquiddick. It used to baffle me how old Teddy boy is still lionized by our left-wing but they've shown time and time again they will happily ignore monsters as long as they serve the proper gods, and I am no longer surprised by the depths to which they will sink.

Endorsing Obama, when it looked like Clinton had that sewn up, probably helped salvage a lot of his modern reputation. That an the affinity for a long forgotten era too. After the Boy Kennedy's defeat in the Massachusetts primary last year, there are now no Kennedy's in Congress though. Good.

I've just been to see Candyman. Certainly something. Not sure how to describe it. Positive but... erm... not sure.

I saw The King's Choice on Saturday, a 2016 Norwegian film about King Haakon's role during the German invasion of 1940. There's more focus on the 'behind the scenes' discussions, mainly on the Norwegian side, than on military action. That said, Blücher's encounter with Oscarsborg Fortress is definitely not to be missed.
If you know your history then much of the suspense is taken away, but I expect most history lovers will appreciate this fairly accurate take on a niche subject. A solid 7.5/10.
