Never heard of the movie until you mention it, but reboots are more the norm these days than sevral years ago. If you get the chance, watch it. Candyman is a true horror. That movie & sequels to it, scared the shit out of me. In one of the sequels, there was a short storyline that explained why Candyman did what he did (Apparently the flashback went to the pre-Civil War era. Hint: he was in an escapade with the master's daughter).

Kill Bill #1 and #2 have been on TV late at night recently. Both versions were excessively cut to take out violence and language. They are Tarantino films so, if you wanted to be safe, you could probably cut half of them for such a reason, but it was very noticeable. I've seen the uncut films many times and know the 'cool' phrases and scenes off by heart. They were gone! Without them, bits of the films didn't make sense.

Zodiac was on TV last night. A good film but I think I might have seen it too many times now to be impressed.

A Simple Favor Brilliant film. I was apprehensive about it but it was great. Anna Kendrick was on fire.

Red Dawn, 1984. Nicaraguan pathfinders land in an open sports field free of obstructions ready to move to objectives. Retrieve guns from parachuted weapons containers, shoot-up civilians a bit to show the viewer they are evil, then move to get on with their assigned tasks.
Red Dawn, 2012. North Korean main attack force parachutes from like hundreds of transports over a suburban area - trees, power-lines etc in the way - and shoot up civilians on their way down and quickly go about their bad activities.
Two contrasting opening invasions from two very different movies. One is fun, the second is trash. Second film: There's a big, undefended airport in Spokane! Take that and forget the massive airdrop over terrain where you'll kill or maim your parachutists. Airdrop some pathfinders if need be, sure, but fly the majority of your men in.

Well the first is a classic, the other one is we are scared of the Chinese market and lets make the North Koreans the enemy crap.

Some more films I've recently seen: The Colverfield Paradox, it was okay, neither brilliant nor terrible. I Tonya, a fantastic film. All the money in the world, I got very bored with this very fast.

I watched The House That Jack Built yesterday, a Lars von Trier film (he did Nymphomaniac). It was a painful watch.

I watched True Grit last night. It was the 2010 Coen Brothers version. Very good film. It was a bit short but that was the only failing. It is a Western and while I am not a fan of those this was highly-rated so I watched it. The story is told from the POV of a 14 year-old girl. She is brave and precocious but she is still a child. The film is believable in that regard as showing her from a strong yet vulnerable position too. I'll watch it again soon when I get the chance to appreciate it better. I am probably older than most of you and can still remember seeing the Duke Wayne version of True Grit when it premiered. I liked it then and I like it now.
I watched the Jeff Bridges version just to see how the new generation would screw it up. I had a hard time understanding Jeff but, these days, any new western is worth my time so I stuck it out to the end. OK movie, with little rewatch value was my conclusion.
A few years later I watched it again after reading Portis' book and guess what? The quality of the film improved greatly. I still prefer the Duke but Bridges and Co. are now worth rewatching.
