A reboot of Candyman is coming out in June. Normally I'm opposed to reboots, this a classic (and terrifying) film from my childhood. However, Jordan Peele has made it: he did Get Out & Us.

Agree a great film, albeit I was also attracted by Virginia Marsden, very, very attractive. Checked the wiki to make sure I was remembering it rightly I was surprised to find the story it was based on was set in complementary Liverpool and focused on class division rather than the racial bigotry in the film. You learn something new every day.

So I was going through movies released in 2019 that I missed over the weekend. One of them was Roland Emmerich's Midway, which I enjoyed.
Am I the only one here who noticed that that movie has two actors from The Man in the High Castle? And not only that, I'm pretty sure one of them delivers a line that's an oblique reference to the show.
It's Brennan Brown, who plays Childan on the show and the cryptoanalyst Rochefort in the movie. He delivers a line to the effect of "If we don't win this, we'll all be speaking Japanese!" which I am pretty sure is a reference to how Childan fetishizes Japanese culture in the show.
It's just too perfect to be a coincidence.

I saw Gifted the other night, 2017 film. It is about a child genius who has more than a little flair for maths and a custody fight over her. An interesting story. The finale saw a 'happy ending' though not too traditional: a change I liked.

Agreed. A couple of twists but interesting and a feel-good ending.

I went to see Parasite last night. Brilliant film. So it was worth the Oscar.

No cinema for me for the foreseeable future. On TV at the minute is Takers. Idris Elba and Matt Dillon. Very flashy, not something which is getting my attention!

I watched 1917 last night. What an impression-leaving film, I have to say.
Realistic or not, how those soldiers who not just fought in that war, but also lived to see their sons serve in a war that’d overshadow theirs a couple of decades later, I can only speculate.
Rest In Peace, Lost Generation. Rest In Peace.
