I do remember somewhere, although it might have been a TV series about the Ptolemies rather than a history book, that there was an attempt at a dynastic marriage between them and the rump Seleucid empire, which I think was largely restricted to Syria by then to try and unite. However the Romans stomped on the idea pretty quickly because they realised they were the main target of such a union. Might have been too late then anyway given the mass the Romans had assembled by that period. Yes, he was her first husband (and she had him strangled because she disliked him, the second would have been killed too of the Romans hadn't done it for her). I don't think that they could have returned to tgeir old glory (not without some luck and at the time that the Romans had people like Pompey and Caesar around), but it could make for an interesting story. OK thanks for clarifying.

Yet another idea for a story: The Last Showdown in South Africa
Apartheid falls apart violently rather than peacefully. Rather than get involved, the rest of the world at first stays out. But, eventually, others join in. Whether the 'good guys' would win or the 'bad guys' would, it depends. This would take place in the early 90s after the USSR fell.

Monica's War1998 sees Operation Desert Fox take place during the Lewinsky political crisis in the US. Bomb attacks kill Saddam in a lucky hit. Iraq falls into chaos. Internal fights for power and external actions from neighbours: Iran, Turkey, Syria, Israel and Saudi Arabia. The West moves in with an earlier Iraq War: major political dramas at home in response. Poor Monica has nothing to do with this but her name is attached to the war. This will be the story which I will write in 2019. Out of the 80s, into the 90s!

Reminds me of Larry Bond's Vortex, which was an entertaining book, though the story kept the Cold War framework. A violent end to apartheid is an underexplored AH premise.

That's where the idea comes from. As you say, that was at the end of the Cold War while this would be right after the USSR fell and without Cuba too. Mugabe would be a factor but it would be at first an internal conflict. Just a speculative idea, really.

Not a story but a idea i have for shared world, it goes like this, the Netherlands is transported to a virgin Earth (with some surprises), i play as the Netherlands, anybody can join by and play either as a country embassy, organization ore group who wants to settle somewhere on Earth, those person ask the Netherlands (that would be me) a question ore request (like funding, support ore something) in establishing a new place for them to live in, the Netherlands counters that ore accepts that and with it a new month passes and so we can build a entire new world (with the Netherlands being the big power helping others).

Well, i'm currently working on a chat-based RPG that takes place in the Star Trek mirror universe canon-verse. It'll be about the lives, loves and (mis)adventures of a group of people on a Memory Omega colony as they struggle to topple the Klingon-Cardassian alliance.

I like the idea but what could embassies do on their own? They are manned primarly by pencil-pushers who sit in an Office all, not construction workers who know how to build a house.

The embassies would be the highest form of government a country has left and controls all assets and people who are in the Netherlands during the event.

For fanfic i have my version of the Spiderverse saga, instead of fighting the Multidimensional parasite, Peter or a council of Peter form the Spider-Army to launch an omniversal liberation campaign against various evildoer; world target as objective include MC classic like 'Old Man Logan', 'Killraven' or 'Days of the Future Past' but also other saga, like , DC earth-3, Millar's Wanted, Drakaverse, Waid's Empire, Uber, The Authority and other dystopia. The opening scene will be in the intern of a poorly illuminated pseudo-scifi room with Wesley (the idiot psycho protagonist of Wanted) bloody and battered being forcibly transported towards a ring by two costumed figure, he is kicking and screming that they don't know who he is and they will pay for this indignity...only to be throw through the ring uncerimoniusly and sent in gulag-like settlement with an enourmous sign with something like 'The work will set you free' wrote in . The entire place it's manned by spider-slayers and version of the living brain, we can see there version of classic low and medium tier marvel and dc villain, characters from other companies like Dredd, Baron Ashura (from Mazinger) or Blofed, but the gazing it's suddenly interrupted by a classic spider-slayer with the face of J.J.Jameson on his torso, that without much gentleness throw Wesley in the camp, saying: welcome to the rest of the days of your life. The idea is a classic 'who's that fight monster, risk to become one', with Peter or King Spider after a too prolonged contact witht the web of life and destiny that had showed him all the various hellworld and badguys of the omniverse, deciding that enough it's enough and to bring 'With Great Power must also come Great Responsability' to the final conclusion and accept responsability for the entire creation and world will receive help...even if they won't.

A story consisting of short extracts from the perspective of children - told when they were adults - of their experiences during a British civil war in the 1980s. It would cover them but give clues to what happened.

One idea that I once had was an isot of a powerful Dutch empire (having won a graater victory in the eighty years war and having all Dutch provinces and a large colonial empire) to our world just as the first world war breaks out. It would be a republic and the Arminians would have won out on predestination, so it would really be different. But mostly an excuse for a whole lot of dreadnoughts pounding each other to scrap metal.

But it might also be because sometimes we just have to put on a nice hat and shoot at English ships.
