La Gauche est Rouge
Victorious from the ashes of the Great War France is falling into oblivion, the man loosed in the war are now needed in the army, the Great Depression have been fell in the nation, the younger generation embrace the ideas of the new regime in Russia and the democracy in Germany have fall to a Austrian nationalist demagogue. One of the famous “embracer of the new Russian regime ideas” where Pierre Semard, his rise to power in the French Communist Party has turbulent, in times of proletariat struggle he manage to unite the workers of France under one party, at least great part of them. Obviously is pro Leninist ideal upset some of the more moderate ones and the party suffer some splits but remain greatly loyal to his revolutionary origins. Pierre as a Great War veteran from the western front, born in Burgundy and in a poor family like other communist leaders, start working it 11 and in 1904, decide to move to Paris at a young age, after that Lyon and Valencia here he finally decide to marry a young women. During the war he is mobilized but just fought during the end of the conflict. His wife die of Spanish Flue in 1919, after that he climbs the political ladder until reach the leadership of the Communist Party during a major split between the radicals and the moderates. Like the PCF other parties also have successfully survive dark times and had now gaining ground in the politics of his countries, the news of the coup in Germany don’t surprise anyone, the rising popularity of paramilitary groups loyal to the NSDAP and his leader Adolf Hitler have long ago became a threat to democracy but just now Hitler had successfully pulled the trigger. The coup was clean, no floors filled it blood like in Russia, that coup happen in the streets and take the government, this one happen inside the government and take the streets, probably planed long time ago by him. The violation of Versailles have reached his peak long time ago but just in 1936 the remilitarization of the Rhineland by Nazi forces cause a severe threat to the French security, the national politics have been split between a questions: War now and Peace tomorrow or Peace now and War tomorrow? The prime minister Léon Blum himself wasn’t a supporter of the war, the rising of communist popularity and the recent strikes by the CGT have caused a decay in production and the majority of the army wasn’t prepared for a full scale conflict, a ultimatum can be proposed but Hitler will probably reject, and it no backing from the British France was condemned to failure. Blum was a controversial figure it the Communist supporters, called an anti-revolutionary by the PCF but loved by his worker friendly reforms, the reduction of the working hours was his idea. But all his support fall four months later in July of 1936. In Spain, Franco and his falangist supporters rebel against the “Red” government leaded by Manuel Azaña, Blum rejection to support the Republicans lead to major strikes in the main industrial centres of the country. The calling of the proletariat urges from the dirty factories of the country, Blum is assassinated by Lucas Laffitte, a French anarchist it connections to the PCF, the president Albert Lebrun declare martial law but soon Paris is afflicted by a major wave of riots and demonstration against the tyrannical action of the bourgeoisie elite allied it the president, the country fall into chaos and great part of the army chose be loyal to the recently formed workers' councils that where now spreading all over the country, the most important of these was the Union de Marseille led by Sébastien Faure and the recently established Syndicat de Paris led by the anarcho-syndicalist François Mayoux. The French government fleet to London by incentive of the British prime minister in the night of 4th of August. The Syndicat de Paris start disputing the control of other workers' councils it the Massiliots but his low rates of popularity make that decision a fatal error leading to his fall and the dispersion of his members to other councils including Marseille. By October the last republican strongholds have fallen in the hands of the communists. On ends of November the comrade Pierre Semard rush to Marseille requesting support from the council to take power in Paris, the council splits between the revolutionaries supporters of Pierre and the more democratic moderates that call for new elections been held.
Pierre had already the support of the recently split Syndicat de Paris and the majority of the other minor councils, that support lead to the majority of the Massiliots stay on the revolutionary side but it great opposition from Sébastien, Pierre takes power by December, in that same month the council enforce the redistribution of land form rich land owners to the poor people and starts unofficially the terreur rouge in France, a purge against reactionary supporters, French elite and his opposition, from anarchist to fascist, this event was also know by the republican supporters as the second terreur. The opposition come from all sides, monarchists, fascists, paternalists, republicans and great part of the clerics that have now their churches burn by the Massiliots, the Mouvement Français operate underground all over France in opposition to Pierre’s Government, their newspaper Gaule Libre become highly popular it the people of Bretagne and Normandy, here the majority of the opposition lived and here the headquarters of the Mouvement Français where. The terreur rouge soon reach that lands leaving behind a wasteland of death bodies and burned houses, but the opposition stay strong all over France. By January of 1937 the first foreign volunteers had reached French soil, the majority were British and supported of the opposition, reach Calais in small boats and found refuge in the villages of Normandy. The opposition divided the men in brigades and send them infiltrate to Paris it the objective of retake the city in a coup and establish there a provisional government before reach international help, the Massiliots rapidly discover the plan and clean the remains of the opposition in Normandy. The British government pressure Pierre to release the prisoners of war in change for neutrality but mass executions of British men are soon held not only in the North but also sixty are send to be hanged in Paris. The public outrage in Britain pressure the government to intervene in France, the Conservative and Labour parties soon show support of the idea in the parliament, his majesty the King George VI give speeches supporting the opposition cause and the volunteers are now organizing themselves into international brigades to fight the proletariat dictatorship. Stalin’s Russia remain relatively neutral during the start of the conflict, Hitler pronounce himself about the conflict during one of his speeches by April of that same year:
“That French state was designated to fall, France will just be a stable place under a stable government and inhabited by stable people”
The opposition is invited by the government in exile to come to Britain and cooperate it the president for fight the new regime but the opposition herself was divided in two major rival faction, the republicans and the fascist-monarchist alliance, some anarchist also join the opposition but they here highly persecuted inside the group. The Mouvement Français his split between the Républicains that fleet to London and aligned themselves it Albert Lebrunand and the far-right Populaires that chose stay in France and be loyal to the Parti Populaire Français of Jacques Doriot.
While that Pierre’s dictatorship popularity in the north lower every day he passes in the office, foreign powers like the USA that approve the first anti-Marxist and nationalist laws like the Revolutionary Control Act start embargoing the mainland country leading to a rise in the prices of food and the opposition left in mainland is greatly fascist and traditionalist. The situation stay relatively calm in the Mediterranean coast, the Bolsheviks show finally support for Pierre’s cause, the provisional government is dissolved, the first Réunion du Comunes is held in Marseille it the objective of create a union of communes in France, is established the Conseil des Travailleurs Français to administrate the creation of that same federation, the redistribution of land supported by the state is successfully supressing the demand and more man than ever are enlisting in the Massiliot Army. The idea of form a new France divided by the communes but united by the workers becomes a basic in ever speech of Pierre, the ideals that have been practiced by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War but now slowly fall in use in Stalin’s Russia, Pierre condemned Stalin but at the same time begged for support of his Russia, condemned his isolationism but don’t leave the idea of join his International, and this opposing methods of talk to his comrades and the overlord in the world of Marxism became a taboo inside the communes, but at the same times it was highly used by his opposition to degrade his reputation, the opposition that now focus on the little counter-revolutionary side of the army that chose to be loyal to their homeland communes fearing the mass executions of the man that try resist the revolution.
