Since Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois are close, the election is called closer to midnight. The 1980 election is remembered as a nail biter not a landslide. Reagan does not have a mandate. The other problem he has a is a Democratic Senate. If you switch three percent of the vote that would reverse the results of 12 of the Senate Republican victories.
