What if an independent Alawite state would have been created in, say, the 1940s?
Indeed, I know that the Alawites didn't want to get incorporated into Syria in 1936. Thus, what if France would have agreed to the Alawites' demands for the creation of an independent Alawite state?
Also, for the record, this means that the Assad family will almost certainly remain in this independent Alawite state (rather than living in Syria). Thus, what exactly is going to happen to rump Syria in this scenario?
Any thoughts on this?

For the record, this independent Alawite state will be made up of the parts of Syria that have large Alawite populations:

That map has one significant difference from the previous one in that the Aleppo state actually has a coastline, which might mean it ends up being the most successful of the states. Although having a long border with both Iraq and Turkey and containing the Syrian Kurds it could hve some problems.

It seems after Googling this map can be found which with the Syrian Civil War going on is one of the scenarios that could happen.

You mean like this map also depicts. Not quite; rather, while both Lebanon and the Alawite state will become independent and the Sanjak of Alexandretta (a.k.a. Hatay) will be given to Turkey in exchange for Turkish support of an independent Alawite state, the rest of Syria will remain united in this scenario.
