What if Jordanian King Abdullah I wouldn't have gotten assassinated in 1951 (or afterwards) and thus would have been able to create and to sign a final peace treaty between Israel and Jordan sometime in the 1950s?
Indeed, any thoughts on this?

You mean the man who wanted a Greater Syria comprising the borders of what was then Transjordan, Syria, Lebanon, and the British Mandate for Palestine under a Hashemite dynasty with "a throne in Damascus,".

I know he wanted it during the Arab revolt against the Ottomans but did he still aspire to this from the 30's onwards say, once the French had claimed modern Syria and Lebanon for themselves?

He was not beloved by other Arab countries who distrusted him and saw him "a threat to the independence of their countries, if he makes a peace deal with Israel it will see Jordan very isolated with few friends.

Very true. However if he has given up on plans for a much greater Syria ruled by him by that time, he might find that an acceptable result as it secures peace for Jordan and probably considerable western aid.

It is better for Jordan in that time to be enemies of Israel than to make enemies out of his neighbors.

I think futurist means the western powers can provide a lot of aid to Jordan in this scenario. At this point the Arab states have relatively little political or economic power. One thought that just occurred. If such a deal went ahead and as a result Jordan was isolated by the other Arabs would this alienate the US enough that they decide not tosupport Egypt during the Suez crisis, if that still occurs?
