The two elections are separate issues and losing in 2020 would not be what either party is aiming for.
1.) The economy may change, but it depends when it occurs and to what extent. Trump has nailed his colours to the successes of the market and the flipside will apply. 2.) Trumpism without Trump didn't work in 2018, but things may evolve over the next four years. The electorate can change. 3.) Demographic change can occur, but people do not necessarily stay in the same voting groups as they age and as countries change. 4.) Third term fatigue is an issue, which is why I accompanied the chances of a Republican win in 2024 with caveats. However, the two 'third term' elections of 2000 and 2016 occurred in very, very different circumstances and it is difficult to draw many detailed links between them.

Joe Bidden (D) 2021-2022(resigned due to health reasons Galvin Newsome 2022-2029 (D) Nikki Haley (R): 2029-37 I’d ask what the rationale is for having President Biden, but then I’d end up intruding into ‘Politics and Current Affairs’ territory. That said, I guess we’ll have to disagree there for the time being.

I do hoop that after 2024 the next president will be under 60 as i start to feel the White House is the world most expensive senior citizen house.

We're going to find out soon enough in 4 years from now. Well if one wins again, we might get Pence who will of course run and be 64, if Biden wins he will be 81 and will be working in the most costly and luxury private senor citizen home in the world.

I can't see Biden running again if he wins. He would probably decide himself he's too old plus its a bloody stressful job if you attempt to actually make a difference even without the bitter divisions of recent decades that are unlikely to disappear any time soon.
Which raises the question that I'm not aware of anyone raising so far about his VP choose. There is a fair chance that whoever she is [since he's already committed to a woman] will be President sometime before 2024 if he wins. Of course even if he lived out a full term the standing VP is in a decent position to stand as the new candidate.

Okay, this is basically impossible, but I'll just put something down so that I can come back and laugh at it in twenty years' time! Bernie Sanders (D): 2021-2023; resigns due to ill health Catherine Cortez Masto (D): 2023-29; Bernie's VP pick Nikki Haley (R): 2029-37; One of the few people to emerge from the Trump administration with her reputation intact Well, this didn't age well. I'll have another go: Joe Biden (D): 2021-25; serves only one term. Josh Hawley (R): 2025-33; Defeats Biden's vice-president in 2024. Cardi B (D); 2033-37. There's no way I'll be able to make an accurate prediction 12 years into the future, so I'll just make it funny.

When Biden loses in November, the Dems will be pressuring JBE to run for President in 2024 & move the party to the middle & center.
On the GOP side: DeSantis is obviously plotting for the White House in 2024. Big question is whether United States Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) & Richard Scott (R-FL) run as well since all 3 have White House aspirations ?
