What if Henri, Comte de Chambord died a decade earlier than he did in real life, thus allowing the Orleanist claimant, Philippe, Comte de Paris to agree to a restoration of the French monarchy in the early 1870s (with the French King becoming a British-style constitutional monarch)?
How would France history have developed and unfolded since the early 1870s in this scenario?
Any thoughts on this?

Is that after the 2nd French Empire, after the France-Prussian War. Yes, it is. A kingdom or is it the 3rd French Empire, also what responds do you think the German empire will have to another monarch sitting on a French Throne.

If its a constitutional monarch of the Orleans house rather than a Napoleon its likely not to upset them too much. Especially before Wilhelm II comes to the throne. I would expect relations between France and Germany would still be very strained because of the status of Alsace-Lorraine and German supplanting of France as the primary power on the continent.

So our new king rules as Philippe VII (the name that was given to him by his supporters) he rules from 1873 to his death in 1894, if he is able to be a symbol and a united force i think the french monarchy can sit on its throne with out a problem.

Also, as for Germany, I certainly don't think that Germany would care much about this. After all, as far as I know, Germany wasn't (particularly) hostile to the Orleanists.

Frankly, I doubt that Wilhelm II had a (particular) dislike of the Orleanists either.
