What if the USA had a prohibition on alcohol like the UK's? When might it happen, what would the effects be, how long might it last?

Yeah that's true, the land of freedom and unrestrained capitalism would never implement such a law.

Yeah that's true, the land of freedom and unrestrained capitalism would never implement such a law. Plus it it did not work as well in the UK as it should be, the police looked many time the other way when the underground pubs became a reality.

Yeah the shebeens. I often wonder if that's why our police departments are so corrupt, or at least popularly perceived that way. One thing's for sure, if Prohibition had begun in the USA and not the UK there would never have been an Irish mob. And we'd be rid of that stupid stereotype of the drunken Irishman.

Plus it did not help when the Americans came in 1941, while the Prohibition was in effect it was not the case on US military installation, i have heard stories where the Bureau of Prohibition tried to sober the US military installations but the US commanders refused as they where afraid that the servicemen would revolt.
