Well he's in a very difficult position. If he tries surrendering his army or defecting to the British his family are at risk. Britain is about to launch Operation Crusader to relieve Trobuk but while a costly success its going to be negated by the storm about to break in the east with the Japanese destroying much of the British empire in the far east.
If he still has any illusions about persuading Hitler to be more rational its too late to stop the attack on Russia or, by this time, probably near disaster in the winter of 41-42. Apart from anything else while he has some fame in the African theatre he has no real influence or any way of providing real change outside the immediate area of Egypt and Libya. If he seeks to claim he's from the future any support he might gain initially will be lost immediately once he starts saying things that will be abhorrent to the Nazi leadership, or a lot of the army at this point. Also he has limited influence in the army so while he might be able to try a suicidal assassination if he gets the chance he doesn't have the influence to try any sort of coup.

Steve So he is not going to do better here using what he knows while in the mean time gathering allies who like him want to get away with Hitler.

He might be able to do a little better than OTL against the British but in the longer run its not likely to make a massive difference and given what he will know I'm not sure how eager he would be to do so. He might consider it best to let the western allies win as much as possible to 'protect' Germany from both Hitler and Stalin. Steve

Steve Maybe getting his family to safety, lets say Switzerland, then defecting to the British would do, but question, would his honor allow him to surrender will knowing three years of battles he can use, even if it only changes the outcome a little bit.
