September 1- John D. Rockefeller, jr., dies after slipping on a recently-polished marble floor and breaking his neck.
September 10- following John's funeral, a rift begins in the family between John III, Nelson, Winthrop, and David Rockefeller and their various uncles over who ought to lead the family in his absence.
September 13- Billy Ingram and Walter Anderson open a new burger restaurant in Wichita, Kansas, named 'White Castle'.
October 1- Rockefeller's stock in the Equitable Trust Company is sold.
October 13- the Kars Treaty between Turkey and the Georgian, Armenian, and Azerbaijani SSRs is ratified in Turkey, recognizing their borders.
