Anybody read this? I searched but only found one mention by spanishspy .
It's an AH novel, mixed with crime novel, set in Britain in 1952. The book is touted as being esp. suited for the fans of Robert Harris' Fatherland. A strong claim, but I looked into it.
Here's the ATL world - at least the info I got so far:
- In 1940, Halifax became PM instead of Churchill. He made peace with the Nazis. The general agreement: Britain won't meddle on the continent, concentrate on its Empire instead. Also, Nazi Germany received e.g. Belgian Congo in this peace.
- In the US elections that year, FDR lost against the isolationist Robert A. Taft.
- Barbarossa still came. Britain is an ally in fact, if only nominally.
- In October 1941, the Wehrmacht took Moscow. Stalin was caught and hanged on the Red Square.
- Leningrad was conquered in 1942. There are claims (well, the British characters can't confirm them) that the nazis deported the whole population of Leningrad and Moscow and starved them to death.
- With time, Britain is verging into fascism. The media are mostly under control of Beaverbrook and the Daily Mail guy. The old parties split about the peace with the Nazis. Those behind it now have the power, Churchill's United Democrats once were the opposition, but later overtaken by the British fascists and then driven into the underground. People are asked by the government whether they have Jewish parents or grandparents, there's talk about a planned sterilisation law. Mosley is minister of the Interior, Enoch Powell minister for India (because Britain kept the Empire, remember - Gandhi died in 1947 in prison), Rab Butler Foreign minister.
- The Wehrmacht occupied all of Russia up to the Volga, but the Russians still make war, thanks to their cheap Kalashnikovs.
- Göring died in 1951. The "führer" supposedly is suffering from hallucinations and rarely seen. Goebbels is his designated successor, but has many enemies in the NSDAP.
- Mussolini still reigns Italy.
- The war between Japan and China is still going on.
- The US tested their first nuke in 1948, it's said. In 1952, they elected Adlai Stevenson as POTUS.
- In the realm of the Nazis, Jews only survive in Britain and France. So far...
Anybody read it? Or heard about it?
