Treaty of Auch
On October of 1200, John of England would sign a treaty with King Peter II of Aragon betrothing Eleanor of Aragon to Arthur I of Brittany and Eleanor of Brittany with Peter II of Aragon in Auch, this treaty was proposed shortly by John after the marriage of Isabella of Angouleme to King John in August, during that time, Arthur I of Brittany was John’s heir presumptive.
The treaty of Auch would make Peter II of Aragon an ally of King John against the Capetians which will sway Philip II of France to ally with Raymond VI and this would annul the alliance of the English with Toulouse in the past.
Eleanor of Brittany would marry Peter II of Aragon in Auch with the dowry of Comingues, Bearn,Bigorre, and John of England’s claims to the County of Toulouse while Eleanor of Aragon would embark to Brittany and marry Arthur I of Brittany in Rennes in January of 1201, the marriage between Eleanor and Arthur would wait to be consummated in the late 1201 after Arthur I of Brittany reached the age of 14.
The marriage only assured a strong regency for the minority of Geoffrey III of Brittany.

After Mirabeau
After the battle of Mirabeau in August of 1202, Eleanor of Aragon would be the regent of Brittany, and she was pregnant at that time and would share the regency with Guy of Thouars, the last husband of Constance of Brittany and Eleanor of Aragon would focus on funding her husband’s ransom for his own release, Eleanor of Aragon would give birth to a son on January of 1203, who she will baptize as Geoffrey, named after the father of Arthur of Brittany.
In April of 1203, Arthur I of Brittany would disappear and Geoffrey III of Brittany would succeed in Brittany, Eleanor of Aragon would be forced to hand over her son to Philip II of France to confirm her son’s inheritance of Anjou, Maine, and Tourraine and Alix of Brittany would be betrothed to the Count of Champagne, Philip II would not honor the guarantee that he had made for Arthur I of Brittany with Geoffrey III of Brittany of John’s territories for him but he would keep Anjou, Maine, and Tourraine which he inherited from his father.
Peter II of Aragon would abandon his sister and he would affirm his alliance with John I of England despite Eleanor of Brittany urging her husband to ally with her nephew, but he would decide to distance himself from his wife and daughter, Constance(1202) for a while.

Beginning of the Albigensian Crusades
Innocent III would declare a crusade against the Cathars after the death of the Papal legate in 1209, with the alliances between the Aragonese and the English with the count of Toulouse annulled due to the Treaty of Auch in 1200, the Count of Toulouse would hang to the French King Philip II more, Philip II of France’s anger against King John from marrying Isabella of Angouleme and the Treaty of Auch would cause the loss of Normandy from the Plantagenets in 1202 as Philip II would seize it due to him not appearing in summons.
The Aragonese would be interested in gaining the County of Toulouse as he gained that claim via his wife, Eleanor of Brittany and Peter II would support the crusades against the Albigensians of Toulouse and would want to benefit from the Albigensian Crusades.

Castilian Marriage woes of Peter II
On 1212 Feeling his own success, initially, Peter II of Aragon would betroth his daughter Agnes to Henry I of Castile but this would never happen as Henry I of Castile would choose to marry Mafalda of Portugal but a marriage between Aragon and Castile would still happen when Constance of Aragon married Ferdinand III of Castile, they originally betrothed Constance to Raymond V of Provence but decided to end the betrothal when they decided that a marriage between Ferdinand and Constance is the better marriage when Henry I of Castile died after being hit by a tile and the fact that the succession of Aragon is secure with Two Sons.
Even during the betrothal of Agnes to Henry I of Castile, Eleanor of Castile is betrothed to James of Aragon but this would end and James would end up married to Berengaria of Leon on 1220 as insisted by Berengaria of Castile.

Raymond VI and the Albigensian Crusade
Peter of Castelnau’s death in 1208 would cause the excommunication of Raymond. This was followed by the capture and massacre of Beziers on 1209 which would lead to the marriage between Raymond VII of Toulouse and Marie of France.
After the battle of Gevaudan in 1213 which was aided by the soldiers of Philip II of France, Raymond VI would flee to the French court in the North seeing that Simon de Montfort won against him and Philip II of France would help Raymond VI to reclaim the territories from Simon de Montfort between 1219 to 1223 with the help of the French which would lead to a peace treaty between Raymond VI and Peter II which marries Geoffrey of Aragon and Joanna of Toulouse in exchange of the restoration of the lands of Raymond VI in 1223.
Joanna of Toulouse is to be raised in the Aragonese court after Joanna of Toulouse and Geoffrey of Aragon were betrothed.

Lusignan Woman
On 1204, Matilda of Angouleme, the rival of Isabella of Angouleme would give birth to a daughter named Marie which seems to have made the resolution of the Angouleme issue to be impossible and Hugh IX of Lusignan would made attempts to occupy the county of Angouleme.
Philip II would recognize Richard, Count of Poitou as the new duke of Aquitaine after the death of John I of England in 1216 which would confirm him as the Duke of Aquitaine after his father’s death.
Richard I of Aquitaine would marry Marie of Lusignan in 1223 despite of the marriage of Isabella of Angouleme and Hugh X of Lusignan in 1220 but with dispensation from the pope.

Geoffrey III of Brittany
On 1216, Geoffrey III of Brittany would want to regain the rightful inheritance of England due to the demands of the barons of England but it would be delayed further to 1223 as he would not be supported by Philip II and he would betroth his eldest daughter, Constance(1219) to Louis of France, he had already married the sister of the Count of Champagne, Marie which would strengthen his support against John I of England and later Henry III of England after 1216, his mother, Eleanor of Aragon would die in 1220.
Marie of Champagne would have given Geoffrey III of Brittany two daughters named Constance(1219) and Marie(1223).
Geoffrey III of Brittany would respect that his ancestor, Eleanor of Aquitaine have given Aquitaine to John but not England which he believed is his rightful inheritance and he would attempt to gain England in 1226 when his friend, Louis VIII has became the King of France but he would not be able to get enough support in England for his own claims and with the fact that Brittany could pass to Louis IX, the nobility of Brittany did not support the betrothal of Constance of Brittany and his claim to England and recommended him to marry Marie to Louis IX instead and Constance should marry Hugh XI of Lusignan.
Geoffrey III of Brittany would die in 1250 passing Brittany to Constance II and Anjou, Maine, and Tourraine to Marie.
