Today I present to you the Wolfhound, the ultimate evolution of the M8 armored car. The M38/T28 Wolfhound was an American 6x6 armored vehicle produced in 1944 by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. It was designed to replace the M8 Greyhound series, but the end of the war in 1945 led to the project's cancellation: The T28 was armed with the 37 mm M6 cannon mounted in an open turret above flanked by a machine gun .30cal (7.62 mm) coaxial (right). Another .30cal machine gun was mounted on a pedestal in the turret. The 37 mm M6 gun had a length of 56 calibers and an initial velocity varying between 776 and 884 m/s. The 37 mm gun could penetrate 48 mm of armor under 30° at 500 m. The T28 weighed around 7.5 tonnes which, thanks to its Chevrolet Cadillac V8 engine, allowed it a road speed close to 100 km/h and a range of around 480 km. In the spring of 1944, the T28 was tested with the T29 against the M8 Greyhound. The T28 won the competition and was finally accepted for production as the M38 Armored Car at the end of 1944. It was supposed to eventually replace the M8 but ultimately production was canceled due to the near end of the conflict and the number more than enough M8 Greyhounds to carry out reconnaissance missions.
