Submarine carrier: Skyhook variant concept of the Royal Navy Vanguard-class SSBN for BAe P.1214 VSTOL aircrafts. The Skyhook system was tested with Harriers, but wasn't progressed any further & the P.1214/6 was cancelled by 1988.

Yep, find it on Reddit but someone has put the link to this Twitter page.
Reminds me "Surcouf" and I-400 class in WW2.

That sounds a very expensive white elephant even if the P.1214/6 hadn't been cancelled. You have a large presumably nuclear powered sub that would be expensive and carry possibly 2-3 of the P.1214/6s. Also since its got to be on the surface for some time to launch - then again later to retrieve the a.c that's going to make it potentially very vulnerable during those periods. Even if an opponent spots it without being able to attack it they know where it was and hence its approximate location for a period of time.

I don't know but it looks like only a small number. Possibly 5-6 at the most I would suspect.

Think you are right, 4 might be the number. Also what use would this sub have.
